|Minimum Stay||3 nights|
Sleeps 2 - 3. Large 1 bedroom room with double bed, en-suite bathroom, air conditioning.
Formerly a part of the main farmhouse, this room has been converted into a spacious guestroom. The walls are made up of thick stone, making the room refreshingly cool in the summer and the furniture is a sophisticated blend of antique and modern. The bedding is of the highest standards to ensure a good night's sleep, and both feather and foam pillows are provided. There is a large cupboard to hang your clothes and a spacious desk sits under the window.
At the Gentilini Retreat we want you to de-stress and enjoy a different kind of holiday. Sit on your private patio, glass of chilled Gentilini wine in hand and look up at the dazzling display of stars on those long, balmy nights of summer. Breathe in the scents of rosemary, lavender and fig. Stroll around the farm estate with its century old olive trees which now produce an exquisite organic extra-virgin olive oil, or indulge in a hobby such as drawing, painting or photography. Gather succulent figs from the farm's sprawling trees. Enjoy a delicious complementary breakfast, made up of local produce, thyme honey from the estate's bees, eggs from our hens, and fruit freshly picked from the trees in the orchard. Then take a dip in the cooling waters of our large pool. As a guest of the Retreat you also have privileged access to the world-acclaimed Gentilini Winery and a private tour of the historical Gentilini Mansion that has been restored to reflect the grandeur of the past and is not open to the general public. The central location of the Retreat also makes it perfect for exploring everything this wonderfully diverse island has to offer.
Hi, I am Eleni, your host. I studied in the UK so my English is excellent. I will do all I can to make your holiday a memorable one on Kefalonia and at the Gentilini Retreat. I live year-round on the Estate, so I can assist you whenever necessary. I look forward to meeting you!
Eleni Cosmetatos purchased this cottage in 1949
The Gentilini Estate, which is called Prassato, has been in the Gentilini family since the 1770's, a dowry brought to Demetrio Gentilini by his young bride. The monumental size of some of the olive trees bear witness to continuous cultivation since antiquity. The owner would take up residence in the original two-storey house during harvest time, to ensure that his part of the produce would be paid in, the land being farmed on a share-cropping basis. The buildings on the estate have now been converted to host guests in the summer months, while the rest of the estate is farmed organically to produce a boutique extra-virgin olive oil.
The Estate is a magical place. Everyone who comes tells me that they really feel as though they have the place to themselves and can really unwind. You cannot help but relax here. However, it is also so perfectly located close to all the main roads of the island that everything is within easy reach, whatever the mood. I really feel as though the Retreat is truly unique on the island. Something completely different.
"Paradise on Earth, Cephalonia’s hidden Gem. If you want peace and quiet, beauty and nature, or just to get away from the noise of your standard hotel then this is the place to be. Your senses will be spoiled with natural aromatherapy just by breathing the air of this beautiful place. You feel as though have this place all to yourself. The owner, Eleni, will bend over backwards to make sure your stay is the best and most memorable one you'll ever have."
"Gentilini Retreat is out of the commonplace. It is magical! It is calm and quiet, the rooms are made with love and Eleni, the owner, is lovely. Don't miss to be there! It is an experience, unique in a lifetime!"
"Drop your cases in your bedroom facing the vines and in the shadow of olive trees, and make a beeline for the tempting swimming pool. Night-time is absolutely peaceful and the clear sky twinkles with stars. Enjoy a glass of Robola and take a deep breath of the air imbued with the fragrances of thyme, lavender and fig trees!"
