Guestbook comments from the owner

"We had a wonderful weekend - what an incredible house! It far surpassed my expectations and the house, garden and local area provided the perfect setting for a perfect weekend with friends." DR Summer 2013

"A jewel box at the edge of Wales. This is a little piece of heaven." Spring 2013

"I work in the building services / construction industry and can really appreciate what a fantastic job has been done in repairing the house to such a high standard. To get a property of that age to an A rating for energy efficiency, have all the modern conveniences and to keep all the character of the building is fantastic - I'm sure the custodians of the property in 500 years time will be very grateful for decisions you made now". Wheelchair access can be gained via the dining room double doors, and, if required, a bed can be moved downstairs into the dining room. There is a wc/cloakroom on the ground floor, which requires a step down. The flagstone floors in the kitchen and hallway are uneven. Outside: A traditional farmhouse garden with herbaceous borders, a large collection of roses, peonies, irises, tulips, lilies, daisies, geraniums, cosmos, delphiniums, hollyhocks. Lavender borders surround the beds. A herb garden surrounds the kitchen patio, and a small vegetable garden provides veg, to which guests are welcome if there is sufficient in growth. A plum tree, damson, apple and two cherries lie in the field and yard beyond and sloes adorn the hedges. The meadows immediately adjacent to the house are wild flower meadows, full of cornflower, poppies, vetch, and there are 14 acres of meadow, woodland, field and garden that guests are welcome to roam. In the winter cows can be seen in the shed. There are rare-breed pigs in the woodland, and sheep in the field. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Linen is provided, and the property cleaned before your stay. Other: Large barn for indoor play for children, cadet sized ping pong table & small billiard table

Character, charm and surround sound!

A beautiful stay for my partners 30th birthday celebrations. We had snow for the weekend too which was magical. The house is well laid out and full of interesting items which we enjoyed! The beds are super comfy and the AGA and log fire kept us very cosy, we even made use of the games barn for some table tennis! Excellent cooking and washing facilities with the kitchen and pantry. We enjoyed using the dining room for breakfast! It was glorious!!! Love the fact it's eco friendly too! Thank you Elsa!

Third visit to the Hymns

  • 5 of 5

This was our third family visit to the Hymns. The house itself is welcoming and great for a family reunion with its large dining room and comfortable sitting room. The sofas are really comfy and there is a lovely big fire which is great to sit in front of after a wet walk! The Aga in the kitchen also makes it really cosy and warm. It is set in the most wonderful countryside and we went for lots of walks straight from the house which was perfect. We would thoroughly recommend it.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your lovely note - we are so glad that you enjoyed your time at the Hymns again. We were delighted to welcome you. October is a lovely time for walking holidays in the area. As it is any time! In September, there is the nearby annual Kington Walking Festival where guided walks are given by locals around the beautiful area - hills, valleys and rivers - it is very much worth co-inciding a stay with that too - the Festival is open to all. And as you say, delightful to return to a good fire in the wood burning stove and or the kitchen. We are so glad you enjoyed the house, the farmstead, the area and your stay together and we are thrilled that you chose to return to stay with us again (and again!)

Perfect escape in countryside

  • 5 of 5

The house is as described it is set on its own with lovely views. There is a great kitchen which is perfect for getting together over breakfast in and then a huge dinning and sitting room. The house is done up in old furnishings that suit the style of the house. Be prepared to duck your head getting into some of the spaces but it all adds to the charm of the place.

Gorgeous and peaceful

  • 5 of 5

The process and communication could not have been simpler. We selected this property due to its central location and it was beautiful. We asked for the Aga to be on for our arrival and this was an added bonus!

We were a group of 12 people 26-33years and we loved it! Spacious, clean and homely. Recommend without hesitation.

Many thanks xx

Owner's Response: Thank you for your lovely note, we were delighted to welcome you. I enjoyed hearing how your friend had taken himself for a walk along the footpaths to the pre-historic Standing Stones nearby, and was delighted to learn that you had all had a great time together too. Thank you for having come to stay.

An excellent venue in magnificent surroundings.

  • 5 of 5

We booked The Hymns for a family celebration and we couldn't have asked for more. Our initially excitement on entering this amazing place with its history and charm didn't waver even the teenagers in our group were 'bowled over.' They even joined us on the country walks which were stunning. Sitting around the kitchen fire and wood burning stove on a cold winters night was perfect. Don't forget, on our next visit, you promised to leave me a bottle of wine Steve and thanks for all you help.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your lovely note, and so glad to hear you had a great time together, enjoying the house and its views and the beautiful countryside. Steve was delighted to welcome you and our wonderful local wine merchant (Andrew Darwin Wines in Kington) can deliver all the wines you would like, at the right temperature for consumption, before arrival or during your stay! Now that you know of him there is no need for you to run out of wine again for your holiday in the Welsh Marches! We would be delighted to welcome you back one day, perhaps in the summer when you can dine under the stars, surrounded by wild flower meadows, parterres and lavendar, on either of the two large patios with views to the hills. A place for all seasons. Thank you for coming to stay.

Stunningly beautiful and very quirky

  • 5 of 5

What a find!!! As soon as we walked through the front door we fell in love with this house. The photographs don't do it justice at all! We stayed here for one night (6 adults and 6 children aged between 5 and 10). The 6 children all stayed on the third floor (attic room) and we hardly saw them as there are so many places for them to go within the house.

We really can't fault this place at all. So much to see and look at within the house alone!!! We will definitely be returning. Huge thank you to Elsa for allowing us to share her beautiful home. See you soon!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your lovely note! We were thrilled to welcome you and glad that The Hymns offered a cosy last-minute retreat to relax after the busy Christmas and New Year period. We are also so glad that your children enjoyed the house & barns too, whatever the early January weather! We would be delighted to welcome you back any time.
