Beesands 0.6 miles. Beeson Farm is a non working farm, less than a mile from the beach in the idyllic South Devon countryside, equidistant between Salcombe and Dartmouth. We are surrounded by stunning coastal scenery, perfect for days on the beach, walking, crabbing, rockpooling, swimming, surfing and kayaking. The traditional fishing village of Beesands is 0.6 miles away and offers a popular pub and a wonderful seafood cafe (serving local fish and shellfish caught in the bay outside). The countryside around is dissected by beautiful estuaries, rivers, lakes and nature reserves. Beeson Farm offers 5 cottages in total (sleeping between 4-6) perfect for relaxing with friends and family. Each cottage offers comfortable living and sleeping arrangements, well equipped kitchens and their own dedicated outdoor spaces. The Trap House and Linhay have their own gardens and the Dairy, Shippon and Bull House have patios overlooking the courtyard, perfect for a glass of wine whilst planning your adventures. For families we have highchairs, travel cots, changing mats, childrens cutlery and plates, toys and books. The Dairy and Linhay offer disabled access.

We have an indoor games room, under 10's play area in the cider orchard, fenced wildlife ponds (with supervised pond dipping in the school holidays). Children are welcome to help feed the chickens and collect eggs. 2 person off season discounts and short breaks are available. Homemade cider from our orchard is available from the farmhouse, and guests are welcome to help with apple pressing in the Autumn. We offer a choice of dog welcome (in The Dairy, Shippon and Bull House) or pet and feather free (in The Linhay and Trap House) cottages.

The South Hams has many picturesque villages and interesting historic towns such as Salcombe, Dartmouth and Totnes to explore. There are National Trust properties nearby, including the home of Agatha Christie. Ideal for walking enthusiasts, the South West Coastpath is less than a kilometre away, offering walks towards Start Point Lighthouse or Slapton Sands, taking in small traditional fishing villages in either direction.

Day trips will take you further afield to attractions such as The Eden Project and National Marine Aquarium. The wild splendour of Dartmoor is within a 40 minute drive.

About Louise Cross

We believe we have managed to do what many people dream of doing - our own escape to the country! We escaped from the rat race of crowded suburbia, having fallen in love with Beeson Farm, an historic, disused and derelict Devon farm nestling in a wonderfully tranquil valley less than a mile from a wonderful, unspoilt beach. We are a family run business and are delighted to offer you beautifully restored cottages which have retained their character whilst providing every comfort. We have achieved AA 4 stars rating and recommendations from the Guardian, Express and Woman magazine. Our environmental efforts have resulted in being awarded a Gold Green Tourism Award.

We offer a range of quality accommodation which is child friendly, dog welcome or pet & feather free and wheelchair accessible. We look forward to welcoming you to our corner of Devon.

We can now also offer you our beautiful, fully equipped, architect designed villa in Kastellos near Rethymnon, Crete. It is most wonderfully and privately located with stunning views of the Aegean Sea and White Mountains, has 3 bedrooms, 3 bath/shower rooms, fully equipped kitchen, lounge, entrance vestibule and a large swimming pool with roman steps. There is a very attractive pool area with BBQ and pool house which contains a kitchenette and shower room so you don't need to go into the villa when you are settled next to the pool. The villa is surrounded by extensive grounds containing trees, shrubs and pretty flower beds.

Why Louise Cross chose South Hams

Beeson Farm is in an idyllic, peaceful, sheltered South Devon valley. Less than a mile from Beesands beach (with great pub and seafood cafe) we are an ideal base for those wishing to explore the SW coastpath, with its lovely beaches and coves. The local beaches are perfect for swimming, surfing, kayaking and fishing, or for quiet picnics. Although we are in a quiet village- all you can hear are the birds and the occasional tractor, we are not remote - the villages of Stokenham and Chillington with village shops, farm shop, great pubs, bus service and the A379 Dartmouth to Plymouth road is less than 2 miles away. The interesting historic towns of Kingsbridge (7 miles) and Dartmouth (8 miles) offer banks, supermarkets and lots of independent and boutique shops. Many wonderful NT houses and gardens are nearby including Greenway (Agatha Christie's house & garden on the banks of the river Dart). Dartmoor is within easy reach for day trips. We hope to welcome you to our delightful corner of Devon.

What makes this cottage unique

We have a badminton net on the lawn in the summer and offer supervised pond dipping in our fenced wildlife pond in the school holidays. There are lovely local green lane and coast path walks, bird spotting, diving, surfing, kayaking, sailing and of course, swimming.

Popular days out include steam railways, boat trips, Paignton Zoo, Plymouth's National Marine Aquarium, Dartmoor and visitor attractions like Woodlands Adventure Park and Pennywell Farm.

Wonderful stay

  • 5 of 5

We had a thoroughly enjoyable and relaxing week's holiday at Beeson Farm. The Dairy really suited all of our needs and was perfect for our family of 5 including our 3 daughters, 9,7 & 5 and also my parents, nearly in their 80's, and their dog. My brother and young family also stayed with us before my parents arrived and the cottage was perfect for little ones with a stair gate and toddler equipment. The cottage had everything we needed including extra books and games for the children, cosy blankets and a lovely courtyard to play in. Our girls enjoyed seeing the guinea pigs and collecting eggs form the chickens as well as playing on the climbing frame. The beach at Beesands was perfect and we all enjoyed the walk to the lighthouse and back again, resulting in a well deserved pint at the fantastic pub there. We ate there a couple of times too and the food was really excellent. The Brittania shack at the beach was also brilliant and served us very well on the first night serving amazing fish and chips to takeaway. We packed lots into the week and enjoyed many lovely walks and visits to the local beaches and small towns. We listened to the audio book of Adolphis Tips by Micheal Morpurgo which is set in Slapton during the war. We learnt lots about what happened in the 1940's and really enjoyed them visiting Slapton and the memorials. All in all a great week. Thank you.

  • 5 of 5

A lovely relaxed and happy time at Beeson Farm thanks to "old school" care and attention by Robin and Veronica Cross. Staying on the farm with 3 young children was easy and fun. And with such gorgeous places to visit in the area, results in a winning package! Thank you.

Delightful Dairy!

  • 4 of 5

We have just spent an exceptionally enjoyable stay in The Dairy. The two of us, and one dog, couldn't have been more comfortable. The accommodation and facilities were just as described plus clean, cosy, well maintained and homely. The whole set up reflected the owners' care and attention and their eco-friendly efforts are to be applauded (use eco products if you can). Robin and Veronica made us very welcome and gave us a wealth of local information all geared to our particular needs and interests. The setting is idyllic: tranquil; pretty; rustic and with interesting wildlife. The local pub, The Cricket, was very good but our favourite was Britannia @ the Beach. It's only small, so you must book, but they serve the freshest fish and seafood you can imagine, all caught in Start Bay that morning. I asked for a crack-a-crab and the co-owner nipped off to the tank, selected a crab and it was cooked there and then. Delicious! The beach is pebbly but perfect for dogs, strollers and fishermen. There is a lovely walk behind the beach in the direction of Torcross with a host of wild flowers. A word of caution: you can walk from the farm to the village but it is very steep and not for the faint-hearted or less than mobile! We enjoyed it so much we're returning for two weeks in September! Highly recommended!
