Guestbook comments from the owner

It was our second visit to Cornflower Cottage. It is very much ’home from home’, and the surrounding area and it’s proximity to the beach and local pubs is perfect. Highly recommended.

This is one of the best holiday lets we have stayed in. Quality furnishings and white goods were complemented by the best equipped kitchen (it even had sharp knives!) The lovely garden offered two eating areas which was very useful. And the housekeeper was a joy and more than helpful. The location was perfect for touring and the beaches. The addition of the finest of fish restaurants within walking distance made this a superb holiday home.

Beautiful cottage and garden, lovely village with a great beach, what more could you ask for?

Fantastic

Fantastic stay in Dorset and Cornflower Cottage was just what we wanted with the costal path and beach almost on your door step. The cottage is well equipped for all your needs whether you are a couple of a large family. The owners were very welcoming and left us some lovely bantam eggs and a bottle of red, which was most appreciated. All in all we had a very relaxed week.

Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

It is tempting simply to echo everything that has been said by other reviewers as it is very difficult to find superlatives that haven't already been used! Cornflower is a perfect cottage in an idyllic village and the owners, Mark and Robbie, are very considerate and helpful. So, in the absence of a good reason not to stay at the cottage, here is some additional information which may help. The two pubs are very good and VERY close. One is particularly good for fish. Booking recommended. The Hive Beach Cafe (10 min walk) is excellent for breakfast and lunch - fantastic fish. The village Post Office sells general groceries and fresh bread and there is a well stocked mini-supermarket at the village petrol station. The village also boasts a playfield and playground for the younger ones. There is also a library, quite something for such a small village. A farm shop (meat, veg, cheese, local jams, chutneys, etc) is 2 1/2 miles away. Great walking from the front door - take a guide book/suitable map. The X53 Jurassic Coaster bus operates along the coast so walks do not need to be loops. West Bay has plenty of eateries and pubs and is a lovely walk away. A short drive to Bridport where you'll find Morrisons and Waitrose.

Perfect we said and perfect it is!

Christmas at cornflower cottage

  • 5 of 5

What a beautiful warm, clean, cosy and well equipped home from home cottage. The owners were so helpful and answered any queries as I was arranging a family Christmas and wanted it to be special. We were not disappointed, from the minute we walked through the door and saw the beautifully decorated tree to the spacious rooms and comfortable beds. We had some amazing walks and watched some stunning winter sunsets on hive beach. The local pubs are worth a visit and are dog friendly. I would highly recommend a stay in this lovely place. The family and myself look forward to a return visit in the near future. Tracy H

Best cottage ever!

  • 5 of 5

Having stayed in various cottages that accept dogs over the years ,this has got to be the best one.

What can we say , from the comfortable, spacious beautiful interior ,the gorgeous garden which Nellie the staffy loved as well as the adults to the welcoming hosts Robbie and Mark.

The elderly parents loved it armed with their bus passes caught the bus outside the cottage every day to explore the jurassic coast.

Myself and the hubby just chilled out walking Nellie and sampling the beautiful 2 pubs in the village food and drink both excellent. Though a tip is if you want to eat in them of an evening book a table in advance as they get very busy.

The beach an coast line was breathtaking.

We enjoyed it soo much we're going to book for 2 weeks next year, even in the winter you can imagine the cottage would be just as picture postcard perfect.

Well equipped and great location

  • 5 of 5

Cornflower Cottage was a perfect base to visit our favourite West Dorset places. The cottage was comfortably roomy for 5 adults plus the dog, well equipped and very homely - everything we needed was supplied plus a basket of fresh bantam eggs and a bottle of wine as a welcome gift. We had a call from the owner a few evenings before our visit to tell us how everything worked and good places to eat ( like the Anchor a couple of doors down and the 3 Horseshoes a short walk away.) No hesitation to recommend to friends or review readers, and will be a first choice for our next visit to this area.

Top cottage in a lovely village

  • 4 of 5

This summer we stayed for two weeks at Cornflower, following a one week break the year before and have very much enjoyed both stays. The cottage is tastefully decorated, perfectly clean and well maintained and the owners are always available, very friendly and helpful should you need assistance.

We particularly like the cottage for its open-plan space for entertaining and the beautiful garden which is a wonderful place to spend a relaxing couple of hours between activities, as well as being well suited to having people over for a bbq or afternoon tea!

The cottage is well located for all the amenities of the village and the beach is a short walk away.

We would certainly recommend this cottage, indeed we are already considering returning for summer 2017.
