Ben Dale purchased this apartment in 2008
I used to come on holiday to Madeira and day dream about renovating a property in the old town. In 2008 this dream finally came true when I brought a villa in the old town which I then converted into 5 holiday apartments.
The proprety is an excellent location close to the sea. Watch out for the hills in Funchal! Luckily we are located at the bottom of the steep hills so we have a fairly flat walk into Funchal.
It is 5 minutes walk from Funchal´s famous Fish and Flower market, Monte cable car station and Fort São Tiago. One of the best and well known secrets about the old town is its excellent restaurants, located just minutes away from the villa.
For rentals of less than one month no deposit for breakages is required.

Stayed for 4 weeks, in one of Bens apartments. Could not fault the apartment . Fantastic views from our balcony, were we had our breakfast every morning. Watching the cruise liners coming and going. Yes there was building work going on below us, but as we were out most days, didn't cause us a problem. The apartment was spotlessly clean on our arrival. And Maria was only a phone call away if needed. Would we visit again, most definitely yes.
Had a lovely week in this small but perfect little apartment. It had everything we needed and a beautiful terrace to sit in the sunshine. The apartment was spotlessly clean and we received a very warm welcome from the owners.
Fantastic location handy for the town centre, bars, restaurants, and the sea. Apartment is very well equipped, spotless and with everything you could wish for and you really can watch the cruise ships come and go from the balcony. If you hire a car there is a car park almost opposite which is a very reasonable 2.90 Euro for 24 hours, there is also a very good car hire firm just down the road. Ben organised the airport transfers and they worked like clockwork, his mum and dad were there to greet us and show us around the apartment. Good communication from Ben with quick confirmation of payment and available dates, we would not hesitate to recommend this apartment, and a car is not necessary if you don't want to drive. We will back, but for two weeks next time, and once again thank you for letting us stay on in the apartment due to our return evening flight. We have had a fantastic week. Matt and Sharon.
Met by Maria at the apartment who was extremely friendly providing advice and ideas on ease of access to the main hustle and bustle of the restaurants and bar area. Superb restaurant/bar just 100 yards away providing fantastic view of the sea. Ben provided recommendation for car hire to view the island for 4 days which was ideal, although not essential as plenty of alternatives of buses, taxis or tuk-tuks. Very close to Mozarts restaurant as wanted to visit again after last visit. Not disappointed.... went twice during our weeks stay.
Took our 15 year old son who thought having free, speedy Wi-Fi was great. Will come back to Madeira again most probably use the upper apartment as will be only two of us and to take advantage of the final views to watch the sun go down...... perfect!
We spent a week in the Jardim apartment and found it very peaceful, comfortable and well equipped. The location is excellent, being close to the old town with its many restaurants. There are several supermarkets in easy walking distance, including a large Pingo Doce. The lido is close by,with its access to the sea.We spent a lovely day there at a cost of 8 euros for two of us ,including sunbeds and a parasol. We loved drinking at the bar on the street below the apartment, with its ocean views.
Ben was very helpful and arranged discounted taxis.Maria, who met us on arrival, was extremely friendly and helpful. We'll definitely be back.
Returning to Madeira for our second visit, we wanted to find somewhere in Funchal which was a convenient location from which we might walk into the city easily, preferably near the Rua De Santa Maria with it's rich choice of restaurants, and was also within walking distance of the harbour area, as well as having easy access to the express-way. What attracted us to the Jardim was the outside space which proved the perfect place to sit quietly in private and take in the sounds of the canaries as we sat chatting and reading while sipping a cool beer.
It sits near the junction joining the Rua Bella Sao Tiago and Santa Maria and fulfilled our needs perfectly. In fact, O'Tasco, the small bistro 50 yards from the front gate allowed us to try out some beautiful traditional Madeiran dishes at very reasonable prices as well as enjoying good beer and coffee without going any distance at all.
The apartment was very comfortable and well maintained with two nice bathrooms and a comfortable well sized en-suite bedroom with patio doors opening straight into the patio and a simple kitchen area with a ceramic hob oven and modern fittings where we could have prepared meals. We opted to eat out but the kitchen would be fine if you prefer eating in.
We were concerned as to where we would park our hire car, but there is a spacious car park 20 yards from the front gate where cars can be parked at a reasonable rate, but we opted to park a short walk from the apartment on the Ruo Do Lazareto.
It took 10 minutes to drive onto the ER101. It was the perfect base for our expeditions out to the island. I have no hesitation recommending it as an ideal base to explore both Funchal as well as the rest of Madeira.
Maria, who looks after the apartment for the owners, was friendly, and helpful, especially when a power cut left everyone in the building without electricity. She contacted the local officials and was able to tell us how long the cut would be and when we could expect a reconnection.
Thanks to Ben for the instructions on how to get to the apartment, I managed to find it easily, straight from the airport. A nice place, in a nice part of Funchal, I can recommend it as a good base from which to explore Madeira!
