About Gail and Simon

We live in Caerkief Farmhouse which is in the same grounds as Hollies and Babes cottages. Simon is an IT consultant and Gail does most of the work of looking after the house and cottages. Lucy (our daughter) helps out. Occasionally. Charlie (the cat) and Buddy (the dog) don't help out at all. At least the chickens make themselves useful by providing the eggs for the welcome packs!

Gail and Simon purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Gail and Simon chose Truro & Falmouth area

We've been desperate to move to Cornwall for many years but had to wait for the right time and the right property. When the opportunity to buy Caerkief Farm came up we leapt at it. It's in a breathtaking location and marvellously peaceful yet only a few minutes drive to the nearest beach.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"From very first impressions on opening the door to the end of our stay, the cottage has more than met our expectations. Not sure if I would tell *too* many people though as it might mean you would get fully booked and not be able to accommodate us!"

Beautiful and peaceful cottage

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week in Hollies Cottage with our lurcher and had a wonderful time. Located up a tiny track, the cottages are in such a peaceful and rural location yet still handy for the main road to get out and about.

The large field is fantastic for the dog with a BBQ and chimera, all free to use with fuel provided. Hollies cottage has a wonderful balcony to enjoy the view and a glass of wine in the sun. Sadly the weather wasn't that great for us but the cottage was a fantastic base for us to go out walking, both from the cottage to get to the shop in Goonhavern (15 min walk the back-way) and by driving out to walk coastal paths especially around Perranporth, St. Agnes, Holywell Bay and Crantock.

Hollies Cottage is an upside down cottage so you walk up the steps outside to enter the living room on the second floor which is then open plan to the kitchen diner. There are stairs leading down to the bathroom and bedroom, which has been newly decorated. All spotlessly clean and equipped with everything we needed for our week. We love that it's dog friendly and brought our own blanket throws with us so that our lurcher could lounge on the sofa.

Gail and Simon were there to welcome us with Buddy the dog and were lovely and friendly. We didn't really see them much as we were out and about most of the time but they were very approachable. We loved the wildlife, hearing owls at night and watching the nesting swallows swooping into their nests on the cottage next door. This was our first time at Hollies and will definitely be returning as we love the area and are thrilled to find a nice cottage to make our base in the future.

Late Spring Holiday at Caerkeif Cottage

  • 5 of 5

This was our fifth time visiting, we have stayed in both cottages and received our usual welcome from Gail, Simon and Buddy. The accommodation as always was prepared ready for our arrival to a very high standard and is a perfect location for a relaxing break providing a real home from home where every need is catered for within the cottage. We enjoyed excellent weather which allowed us to walk our dogs through the lanes and fields surrounding the farm along with the usual vast sands of Perranporth beach. Gail and Simon ensure that you feel welcome and comfortable and are always on hand should you need any advice, help or even just a chat about dog's !!! The location of Caerkeif Cottages is close enough to allow you full use of the beach and experience the hustle and bustle of Perranporth but far enough out of town to be quiet and relaxing. It is very easy to travel to anywhere in Cornwall from the site but ensure you leave plenty of time to relax and enjoy the tranquility that is a way of life on Caerkeif Farm. We will definitely be visiting again and would give the accommodation, service and facilities on site five stars out of five.

Cosy, private, and off the beaten track

  • 5 of 5

Truly home from home, the owners provide pretty much everything you need to settle straight in to this warm cosy cottage. Exactly as advertised, immaculate and well maintained. The cottage is set off the beaten track, with access to lovely local walks, and a field for exercising your dog, but still providing excellent access to hundreds of places to visit, pretty much all dog-friendly, even the restaurants! Nearby Perranporth town and beach are a must, very friendly locals. We had a fantastic week!

Beautifull cottages perfect all round

  • 5 of 5

These cottages are so welcoming fully equipped with everything you could possibly need. Gail and Simon are fabulous hosts and care so much about your stay making sure it's everything you expected. This is our second time at the cottages and tried both and equally happy with both cozy and warm with a huge field to the side to excercise dogs and relax with the barbie and the fire pit. We will be back in 2017 if not before
