We are a family of four from Hampshire. We have had many happy holidays in Issigeac and the surrounding area and when the opportunity arose to buy an old stone farmhouse on the edge of the town we couldn't resist it!

Just wanted to drop you a note to say we had a fab holiday last week. The weather was glorious and got to 29 degrees on my birthday! You have a lovely property in a fabulous location - thank you for letting us stay there. We look forward to booking again with you in the future. Sharon and friends (1st - 8th June 2013)

What a lovely spot - both close to the village and on the edge of the countryside. Very nicely appointed. A thoroughly enjoyable and very relaxing week. Linda and Colin (5th - 12th July 2013)

Many thanks. The house, pool, garden and location were ideal for the whole family who are aged from 67 years to 11 months. We all would have wished to stay longer. If the opportunity arises we would certainly return to what is a well equipped and comfortable house in a superb location. The Lewis Family (17th - 31st August 2013)

Perfect for a peaceful holiday

  • 5 of 5

Thank you Nick and Julia for all the help to make our holiday perfect. Your farm house is beautiful and well equipped, nice and clean, and nice to have pool towels included. we were very lucky to get a very hot week and the lovely pool was well used till late at night. There was nobody to disturb in the secluded area. Ron arranged for taxies to collect us and return us to the airport, thank you one again.

it is a nice 5 min stroll into the beautiful town. The Sunday market is a must, we stocked up with all our fruit and veg for the week, the produce is so nice and fresh. the bakery is open of a morning, so get your bread early and the other shops are a bit "hit and miss" with their opening times.

The food marked on a Thursday evening was enjoyed by us all. we were able to taste all the local produce and French delights!!!

We decided not to hire a car, because we wanted a totally relaxing break, which was what we got.

would not hesitate to recommend this property to anyone.

Excellent

Om arrival at this lovely old farmhouse we were met by Ron the local representative who showed us around this stunning building Ron was also our contact if we had any problems and I am glad to say we didn't need him.

The kitchen was so well equipped with every imaginable utensil and plenty of crockery and glassware.Likewise there was an abundance of towels and also pool towels. We were fortunate to have good weather so we ate outdoors under the large pergola .However there was a large table and comfy sofas if needed and plenty of books, games,DVDs and leaflets.

We used the pool every day and although fresh!! You quickly got used to it again there are lots of outside games to enjoy in the huge garden.

We picked up a car at the airport and it was an easy drive to the property following the excellent directions that had been sent to us.

We travelled around The Dordogne visiting many places but it was always good to get back park the car and have a chill out in the sun by the pool (with a glass of local cheap wine).

Issigeac is a lovely place with a few bars, restaurants and shops and all only 5 minutes walk from the farmhouse, there are also footpaths if you fancy a stroll in the countryside .

A great place and could not recommend it more highly. You won't be disappointed

Just Perfect

  • 5 of 5

Firstly, communications and arrangements for our holiday with the owners were exemplary, including having to change our arrival date and time.

The house and grounds are fantastic and suited our family perfectly (2 adults and 2 teenagers (16 & 14)). The house is very rustic, so has its fair share of spiders and lizards scuttling about its nooks and crannies, but the facilities are excellent and we wanted for nothing. It really is a charming period property. We only used the TV for weather updates, but if you need UK tv it's all there with Freesat. There is no internet (wifi), but we saw this as a distinct advantage!

The pool was a great relief on the hot days, although a bit of a shock when you first get in; there is also plenty of shade should you wish to keep out of the sun. The grounds provided lots of space for games, including a couple of football goals, badminton/volleyball net and a tabletennis table. Bats, racquets, shuttlecocks and balls were provided, but you may want to take your own if you are in the more proficient bracket!

Undoudtedly the house's biggest selling point is its location; 5 minutes walk from the idyllic medieval village of Issigeac, yet in a very secluded location away from the road. All the local shops you could want for fresh bread, croissants, meat, cheese etc along with a variety of weekly markets offering farm produce, hot food and crafts (good quality, not your normal holiday tat!). There are also several restaurants and bars to cater for all tastes and budgets. The larger supermarkets are only a 15-20 minute drive away in Bergerac although there is a Spar along with an additional small supermarket in Issigeac. Issigeac is beautiful and unspoiled, the shopkeepers and locals were very friendly and happy to put up with very rusty 'O' Level/GCSE French. There is also a very helpful Tourist Information office in Issigeac that also has free wifi if you must connect while you're on holiday.

The Dordogne river and the more popular tourist spots were a 45 minute to an hour drive away and the roads did get very busy in the smaller villages.

So, in summary, a beautiful, well appointed house and grounds, in a secluded rural location, adjacent to a delightful, unspoiled medieval village but not too far from civilisation and the bigger tourist attractions should you need them...the perfect holiday location. We'd go back tomorrow!

Lovely cottage

  • 5 of 5

We took our whole family to this charming old farmhouse, the rooms were perfectly laid out and the large garden and swimming pool with it's loggia were where we spent most of the time. Everyone had a great time and we would heartily reccomend this cottage. It is set down an unmade track, close enough to the charming village too walk to the bakers every day but also secluded and peaceful . The booking was easy and Mr & Mrs Keithley gave us all the information we needed to have a really great time.

Superb

  • 5 of 5

Just returned from a delightful 2 week stay. The farmhouse is ideally situated. It's an easy 20 minute drive from the airport, and a 5-10 minute walk from the village, which has plenty of local amenities, so we hardly used the car. The setting is tranquil, with sunflower and wheat fields all around, and the farmhouse has its own large grounds. So you get the best of both worlds - a peaceful setting, but on the edge of a lovely village; couldn't be a better location. It's spacious inside, with plenty of rustic charm and character. An interesting selection of books and music, extremely comfortable sofas and beds. The pool was a really good size, and we were grateful for the large loggia next to the pool, which gave welcome shade in temperatures of 40' plus, and was big enough for a large dining table as well as a table tennis table! We simply thought the whole package was just wonderful. Would absolutely recommend.

Gorgeous!!!!

  • 5 of 5

We visited this gorgeous farmhouse again this year (second time) and have just booked another visit for next month (September 2014). Each time we visit we forget how secluded, quiet and peaceful this place is. The garden is fantastically spacious and enough to tire out our 2 and a half year old and there is a selection of balls, rackets, etc. for everybody to play with as well. Upstairs there is fantastic space (room with en suite and landing space) where the 'grandparents' stay and the rest of our family (me, husband and children) stay downstairs. It is secluded enough to be very tranquil but within a short walk you are in the centre of Issigeac that has everything you could ask for. A butchers, a boulangerie, pharmacy as well as a handful of restaurants, and not forgetting the local market that is fantastic for deli items. Supermarkets and Bergerac airport are only a short drive away and there are gorgeous places to visit all within a short distance. A great place to stay for all ages!! (Including our 3 month old son earlier this year!). We wouldn't think of booking anywhere else now. A great find.

Facilities

From the Owner

Our house is perfectly located just a short walk from the centre of Issigeac and yet in a secluded position on the edge of the countryside. The house is tucked away down a country lane and so there is no traffic. We love being able to stroll into the town and to leave the car behind. There are also some lovely walks from our doorstep. Our house and the village of Issigeac were featured on the BBC Programme "Escape to the Continent" (Series 2:2 Dordogne).
