About Ralph Ellerton

I am now retired from my own business, and can come here three or four times throughout the year.

The different seasons on the Algarve all have their own distinctive atmospheres. In spring, the wild flowers are stunning, in summer the shade provided by the cabana makes the pool area a lovely location to rest and relax away from busy beaches. This is our family second home, and our grandchildren don't want to go anywhere else for their holidays.

Ralph Ellerton purchased this villa in 2001

Why Ralph Ellerton chose Albufeira

We have been coming to this villa for more than 25 years, and bought it from my brother in 2001. It has been continuously updated, without disturbing the character of the original design. It is the last property at the end of a rural lane, yet within walking distance of shops, restaurants and beaches.

The area has changed a lot in this time, yet still retains a peaceful and quiet atmosphere. The shepherd still keeps his flock of sheep and goats nearby, the local shopkeepers will assist with strange English requests.

The villa is within sound of the sea and surrounded by fields and orchards, making it quiet and restful, yet close to all holiday amenities.

What makes this villa unique

The main reason for coming here is the complete relaxation afforded by the villa location. It is surrounded by fields on two sides, with extensive views to the South and East. The Algarve has numerous attractions, with water parks, Zoomarine and golf courses all within 30 minutes drive. There are a variety of local beaches from 3.5km of golden sand all the way to Armaco de Parra, to small coves each with its own distinctive beach bar. The choice of restaurants is large and varied; all tastes are catered for.

We hope that you will enjoy this holiday home as much as we do.

Lovely villa with large outside area, within walking distance to local restaurants and beach

  • 5 of 5

Just returned from a week at this lovely villa. The outside space is a massive bonus with a large pool which me and my family made good use of. We spend most of our time outside either swimming, sunbathing or barbecuing. The villa is within walking distance to local restaurants and shops and the beach is either a 5 minute drive or 20 minute walk. The villa was in a lovely peaceful spot. We hired a car for the week and visited a few resorts, one only being a 10 minute drive. Loved this relaxing holiday and will definitely return.

A special place

  • 5 of 5

This was my fifth time at Casa Dos Leoes having been in early spring, late spring, summer twice and now late autumn, and I love it. It's merely 30 easy minutes from the airport, 10 minutes by car from Albufeira, 2 minutes by car from the beach or a 15 minute leisurely walk, 5 minutes walk to the local pastelleria, 5 minutes up the lane to Prima Pasta, you've got supermarkets in easy reach, and if you don't mind the occasional inquisitive goat, you can walk across the fields direct to the nearest Favourita. So it has everything you can possibly want in easy reach yet the villa itself has the feeling of being totally rural, surrounded as it is by fields, farms, cork trees, fantastic rural views of the valley from the roof, and bags of outside space. The relative seclusion makes ordering cabs difficult to start with but I just walk up the lane or use the same driver (the taxi drivers all want business and once they've found you, you're ok if you stick with the same one). If you are interested in wildlife, there's plenty to see. Swallows, red rumped swallows, hoopoes, dozens of azure winged magpies, crag martins, house martins, storks, herons, egrets of all kinds, and best of all, the swallows and martins like to drink from the pool and have no qualms about you being on the pool lounger. The pool is unheated, so is a smidge on the chilly side in late autumn and early spring, but absolutely fabulous in late spring and summertime. The pictures just don't do the place justice. The pool is south facing, so you can watch the sunrise, and be in full sun all day and I mean, all day. In spring and summer the pool really comes into its own as it's bathed in sunshine from about 8am thru to gone 7pm in July. There's a covered outdoor dining area with barbecue, there's wild flowers everywhere you look. Inside, the villa is rustic, with log fire, internet, english Sky TV, the kitchen has everything you could possibly need including dishwasher, microwave, juicers, barbecue equipment, and there's a full cupboard of inflatables for use with the pool. If you're looking for party central, this isn't the place for you, but if you want somewhere with everything you need for a family holiday with young children, a little get away for two, or a complete break on your own yet with lots to do it's perfect. It already feels like my home from home.

Simply the Best

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a brilliant stay at Casa Dos Leoes 5/9/2013-19/9/2013 and it was everything and more than we anticipated.

We booked it some 11 months in advance so in that period I had few dealings with the owner Ralph Ellerton and found him to be a most honourable and delightful gentleman to deal with.

It is only my opinion but I feel that the property is not featured to show it at it's best and it is most surprising on arrival to find it is so much more than we anticipated, undersold and over-deliver spring to mind.

We have stayed at quite a number of properties in and around Vale de Parra and Gale area and this stay offered so much more in the fact that there is hardly any road noise and that takes some doing in this day and age.

This Villa is not just your usual (basically equipped) rental home but is stocked with every conceivable item that you could need on holiday and it is more of an home from home experience.

We do not usually bother with reviewing our stays but Casa Dos Leoes is already booked for the period for next summer and I like to keep any little gems close to my chest but the cat is out of the bag with this great Villa so we would like to thank Ralph for sharing it with us for two great weeks.

Fantastic Villa

  • 5 of 5

What an amazing find for a very peaceful and relaxing holiday! The villa is set at the end of a very quiet track but is well within walking distance of shops and restaurants. The restaurants that are in the immediate area are great for anything from fillet steak to all you can eat fish and home made pancakes for the kids! The pool is super too being in the sun all day long. The interior of the villa is very clean and cool which meant that we hardly needed to use the air conditioning and with maid service daily made for a very relaxing time.

We loved it so much we booked two weeks upon our return for next summer!

Casa Leoes

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a lovely holiday at Casa Leoes. The villa was everything we had hoped for, it is spacious and comfortable, with lots of extra 'home comforts' not listed by the owners, books, cds, towels, basics in the kitchen etc. The location is very peaceful, but only a 10 minute walk to town, and a few minutes drive to the coast/beach. A car is a must. It suited our family (two adults plus 10 year old and 14 year old) very well, and the area further afield was wonderful to explore. If you want to swim with dolphins at Zoomarine, book in advance, it is wonderful, and for a different day for all ages, try the aerial assault course at lusoaventura (the other side of Albufeira). Thanks to the owners, and highly recommended for everyone except disabled users due to one step in the house.

Special interest holidays:

We maintain a list of all the birds seen from the villa, and there are reference books for birds, insects and flowers.

The Algarve is blessed with wonderful sandy beaches; some stretch for miles others are secluded bays and coves. Many have restaurants enabling you to sample a sumptuous lunch or a relaxing evening meal. Nearest beaches are Galé and Salgados about 1.5km, 15 min walk. 10 min drive to Albufeira beaches.

The Villa is just 40 minutes from Faro airport. There are numerous local and international car hire companies at the airport.

There is a mini mercado within 10 minutes walk, three further supermarkets less than 5 minutes drive, including Applonia (think Waitrose).

There are numerous attractions for the whole family, water parks, the Zoo marine and the Algarve Shopping Mall. The local town of Guia has everything you need including a small market, pharmacy, supermarkets and banks and numerous restaurants and is 5km away. Albufeira is ten minutes drive to the east, Armacao de Pera ten minutes to the west.

Further Details:

The Central Algarve location makes this an ideal base to explore the whole of the coast or many of the historical towns such as Silves and Monchique, Sagres and Tavira. There are a large number of golf courses in the area; local agents will advise on the choice and can provide bookings with discounted prices. There are three water parks on the ALgarve, all of which are popular, and within 20 minutes drive. Lisbon is some 2.5 hours drive to the north and can be easily reached by an excellent and cheap train service.
