About Michael Smith

We are Lisa & Mike Smith and we are the owners of Villa Bonita. This was our family home for 8 years whilst we lived and worked in Spain. Our family is ourselves and 3 children: Kieran 18, Aiden 14 and Mia 12 who all attended the local school in Manuel. We are now living back in England due to Mike's work. We wanted to keep our villa as we have so many wonderful memories of our life here. We bought the house in 2004, it was love at first sight and 12 years later we still feel the same. As our guests drive up the hill they will experience the same reaction as we did...Wow!! We decided to buy in this beautiful area after many trips over checking out the various regions in Spain. The town of Xativa was a great pull, we loved the vibrancy and architecture.

Michael Smith purchased this villa in 2004

Why Michael Smith chose Valencia Province

We searched many areas before we arrived in Xativa. We loved the town and we love the area of Carriaxet where our villa is located. Who would believe that a 5 minute drive from the bustling town of Xativa that we would find this tranquil and peaceful paradise which is Villa Bonita. The views that we have are magnificent, we are private and not overlooked by anyone and yet we have easy access to the town and surrounding villages. Our location is perfect.

What makes this villa unique

We have the benefit of total privacy whilst being a short drive from all amenities.

The villa is quiet and peaceful, wonderful to be away from the hustle and bustle of every day life.

We have the advantage of being top of the hill with views far reaching. A wraparound terrace gives us access to views on three different sides. The beaches are only a 30 minute drive away and we have towns and villages 5-10 minutes drive from the villa.

A wonderful villa for a perfect holiday

  • 5 of 5

We loved this villa. It was spotlessly clean when we arrived and we were delighted to find that it was spacious, light and airy. It has everything you need for a great holiday! We spent most of our time outside - the pool is lovely and the area around it is perfect for sunbathing, but there's covered areas for when we needed some shade. Eating outside is a holiday treat, and with several seated areas to chose from, we had the perfect place with sun or shade depending on our mood.

One highlight was the lovely neighbours! Jim in the villa opposite was really helpful, and Graham who manages the villa, was very kind and warm, bent over backwards to be helpful at all times.

We will definitely go back!

A very relaxing holiday.

  • 3 of 5

The villa is in a great location within easy reach of supermarkets, beaches and Valencia. There is lots of space around the villa and it has a good sized pool and terrace with fabulous views. We had a very relaxing holiday. The owners are really friendly and keen for you to have a great holiday as are Graham, Carmen and Alec who manage the property and are on site every couple of days.

It would have been really useful to have had some more information in the villa such as maps, instructions for the oven, dongle etc. Also, the description on the website does not quite reflect the current situation in the villa - there is a barbeque but it can’t be lit in summer, there is an orchard but you can’t pick the fruit. There was no reliable internet access which was a priority for us. A dongle was provided which had to be taken into Xativa to be topped up. We spent €60 on 3 top-ups with very limited access to the internet! Clearly, if internet access isn’t a priority for you then this wouldn’t be a problem.

That said, we had a really enjoyable holiday and thoroughly enjoyed exploring the area.

Review of Villa Bonita October 2015

  • 4 of 5

The villa was in a lovely location, and very well equipped for the number of rooms. A great place for a family holiday or a group of friends. It was clean and tidy and the barbecue was a huge asset. Sadly we did not have great weather so only used it once. Its´ remote location does mean that it is imperative to have a car for shopping and going out as there are no shops or bars nearby. We already knew this though so it is not an adverse comment just a note to any potential renters. The neighbours who met us on arrival were extremely friendly and helpful in all respects and always available for questions.

It would be useful to include some written instructions for the tv, heaters and heated towel rail. Also some lamps only had uk plugs on them. Apart from that we had a lovely time and really enjoyed the visit to Xátiva. The Castle was amazing.

Excellent extensive villa with stunning views. Well managed by local man,Jim. Plenty of accommodation for large families and a separate two bed self contained apartment.

Five minutes drive from Xativa with is steeped in history and has many fine restaurants and shops; very Spanish. Twenty minutes walk through the Orange groves alongside the river to Manuel. Only forty minutes drive from Gandia with extensive clean beaches.

Will definitely visit again.

Lovely Spacious Villa

  • 5 of 5

We were a group of 6 adults and the villa was superb giving us all space and privacy when we wanted. The outside area was fabulous and we made full use of the bar, pool, pagoda and BBQ areas. The managers Jim and Val were great, very helpful and the villa was spotless. We all walked regularly through the orange groves over the river to Manuel for tapas and beers, fantastic.

Super villa, great pool and bbq. We used the annex, two good bedrooms, kitchen, sitting room and shower with loo. Fantastic views over the countryside. Pleasant walk to Manuel (village) not the waiter. Hativa typical Spanish town with castle 15 minutes drive. Transport to Valencia only 50 minutes by train. Wonderful selection of restaurants in Hativa and Manuel. All the equipment required to cook a great Paella.

Will be returning.

Special interest holidays:

This is an ideal location for hiking, walking, cycling and special interest i.e painting. An area for people looking for a relaxing and peaceful holiday but also accesible to the livelier side of a holiday as well. Benidorm is just over 1.5 hours drive away. We are located in a tranditional Spanish region.

We have several blue flag beaches within a 45 minute drive, Gandia, is our personal favourite with a superb beach and promenade, Harbour area and some wonderful resturants. Then we have Travernes, typically Spanish uncommercialised beach, a little further up the coast is Cullera with its wonderful water park, fabulous for a day out with the children. A little further afield is Javea, Denia and Calpe, wonderful and more 'British' than the rest

Cheap flights are available from easyjet, Ryanair.

Our nearest airport is Valencia and will take you appox 45mins to the villa

Alicante airport will take you just over an hour.

Trains are regular cheap and spotless from Valencia to our local village of Manuel/Le Enova. Car hire is essential as taxis are difficult for the rural areas.

Our nearest village is Manuel which is about 30 minutes ambling or 5 minutes in the car. A traditional Spanish village which has a couple of bars a couple of grocery shops , a small supermarket, a couple of banks a chemist and lots of interesting architecture, market day is Wednesdays. Xativa is famous for producing 2 Popes. It is a beautiful bustling town with its very own 12th century castle. Walking around the old medieval streets is a joy with its restaurants, boutiques, and many fountains.

Further Details:

In March we have the fiesta of the fallas, marvel at the 30 metre tall sculptures at most road intersections. All of which are spectacularly burned on the final night the 5 day festival. In August in Xativa there is the food festival with bull fights , concerts, carnival attractions, street markets and fireworks daily and much more. You need to see this to believe it. December brings more street carnivals with the traditional nativity scene re creating the town of Bethlehem complete with real livestock, Magical. Full funfair. After Christmas we have 'The Three Kings,'Reyes Parade' depicting the arrival of the 3 wise kings on the night of January the 5th. There are many more festivals throughout the year and each one is worthy of a visit. You will find so many things to see and do in this area with natural attractions like the Coves of Negra, the lakes at Anna and Antella
