Villa in Lourinhal, Penacova, Nr. Coimbra, Silver Coast, Portugal - Peaceful Location With Stunning Views

This stunning and incredibly spacious, 4 bedroom, 3 bathroom home, situated in the heart of Central Portugal is the perfect place to get away from it all and completely unwind. All of the accommodation is large, comfortable and very well equipped. An exceptionally large kitchen/diner/lounge with plenty of room to dine and relax, equipped with TV, UK free view, DVD, Wii and stereo, leads onto a well furnished sun terrace with yet more dining space, sofa's, loungers and incredible views of the Serra de Estrella mountains. Speakers allow you to listen to your favourite music wherever you are, inside and out. You can dine alfresco and BBQ in the purpose built shaded area below which is situated beneath the olive trees in the well kept gardens.

The garden leads onto a beautiful national forest, perfect for walking. Separate utility/laundry room with washing machine and extra fridges. There is ample parking available for several cars.

Excellent Property In Outstanding Location

This well maintained spacious property is all about relaxing, either kicking back and relaxing on the sun terrace or enjoying a cold drink and excellent food in the surrounding villages. There are many Cafe's with stunning views such as in Penacova where you can overlook the river beach whilst socialising or travel down to the river beach and relax in tranquil settings.

Luso is a small commute where you can absorb the history at your own pace and Coimbra is near by where there is an old town next to a modern metropolitan area where you can drink and eat into the evening with a really nice friendly lively atmosphere.

Aveiro is a little further out but well worth a trip to see the wonderful coloured tile houses and golden sands but beware the waves can get a bit powerful

All in all and excellent location surrounded by interesting areas but in a very peaceful hamlet.

Excellent, Relaxing, Beautiful

Absolutely excellent week spent in the most relaxing place I have ever been to.

Surrounded by some beautiful little villages and towns perfect for exploring.

The villa is packed full of thoughtful touches and is like a home away from home, it's so hard not to sit back and relax there.

I would most definitely recommend this as a perfect holiday for a quiet week. 5***

Maison spacieuse, au calme, dans une région splendide

La maison est très grande, bien arrangée, et équipée de tout le confort nécessaire. Nous avons particulièrement apprécié :

- le petit salon / salle à manger sur la terrasse avec un panorama splendide

- la piscine pour les enfants

- la grande cuisine

- pas de moustique

- les recommandations de visite dans la région.

Nous n'avons pas eu l'occasion de tester les DVDs, la Wii ou l'air conditionné...

Allez, seul bémol : le lit double du RDC grince un peu...

La maison est perdue dans un petit village dans les montagnes. Une impression de calme qui fait tellement de bien. Des forêts magnifiques.

Les occasions de sortie ne manquent pas: Luso et la forêt de Bussaco, Coimbra, Fatima, des plages fluviales pour se rafraîchir, ...

There are a fantastic choice of beaches to visit, all of which are an hours drive away. Costa Nova beach, Tocha, Mira, and Figueira da Foz are just a few of the stunning locations you can choose from for sea and sand.


For those wishing to drive over, there are regular ferry crossings from Plymouth and Portsmouth to Santander. The crossing is typically between 18-24 hours and the drive from Sandander to the property takes 7 hours.

The closest airport is Porto, which is approx 120km and a 1.5 hour drive away.

Lisbon airport is slightly further at 228 km from the property. This drive takes just over 2.5 hours.


The spa town of Luso and the breathtaking Bucaco Palace and ancient forest are only a 20 minute drive away. For shopping, banks etc. you have Mortagua and Penacova - 15 mins by car, or the historic university City of Coimbra, which is just 45 mins by car. There are various river beaches in the area - around 10- 20 mins by car.

This unspoilt part of Portugal is full of things to do. There are plenty of picturesque river beaches which make a great location for a picnic or BBQ followed by a dip in the lake.

There are lots of opportunities for water sports, walking, fishing and cycling and plenty of local markets to visit all of which serve unbeatable piri piri chicken!

Throughout the summer each village will host its own fiesta where there is an abundance of food and music into the early hours. The large 5 day Mortagua fiesta is held in August each year.

You can find stunning views from the windmills above Espinheira near Penacova and Penacova itself where you can sit in the panoramic restaurant and enjoy the view over the Mondego river with a beer, wine or coffee.

The 18km kayak trip along the Mondego from Penacova to Coimbra provides a great day out.

In addition to the great piri piri chicken, local specialities include Leitao (roasted suckling pig), chanfana (goat cooked in a traditional bread oven in red wine) and Lampreia, a speciality fish.

The city of Aveiro on the coast, just under an hours drive, is known as the 'Venice of Portugal', and well worth a visit to see its traditional boats and beautiful houses.

  • Notes on accommodation: The central open plan area of the home is linked by two separate staircases which lead to several bedroom areas below making this a great home for entertaining and playing, but a home where it is easy to get some privacy and space too. Whilst there are other homes nearby in this small village, the sun terrace and courtyard areas are not overlooked. Smoking outside only please. Outside: Large sun terrace on first floor level with sofa's, dining table and chairs. Below is a spacious, well kept courtyard area, covered outside dining area and BBQ, patio with bistro area at the rear of the property, adjoining bedroom 3. Loungers and fantastic views. The lovely garden has several mature fruit trees and guests are welcome to pick and eat any ripe fruit during their stay, there are beautiful olive trees providing shade and plenty of space for children to play. The sun terrace and gardens are exclusively for the use of guests. **An additional fee of £25 is required if you wish to use our outdoor BBQ/grill facility** (This fee covers the cost of gas and additional cleaning for this equipment). There is a regular BBQ available for all guests. Utility Room: Washing machine and additional fridge - ideal for keeping plenty of drinks cold! Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bed linen and towels are provided and are changed weekly.
