About the property

Cottage in Grasmere, Lake District, Cumbria, England

Less than a mile from the centre of grasmere, 1 roundhill cottages is ideally placed for walkers being at the foot of numerous walks, helm crag and the fairfield horseshoe to name but two. A gentle stroll brings you to grasmere, a traditional village with many romantic and poetic connections and still as inspiring today as it was for wordsworth himself. Local attractions include the wordsworth museum, a very accessible walk around the lake, a well stocked garden centre and of course, the famous grasmere gingerbread - who could resist? built in the late 1800's, 1 roundhill cottages is a traditional slate cottage suitable for a family. Cosy evenings can be spent in front of the open fire whilst a leisurely dinner can be enjoyed whilst taking in super views over the surrounding fell range. In fact, views can be had from most of the rooms but one of the best vantage points has to be from the roll top bath, yes from the bath!

A perfect getaway gem in Grasmere

  • 5 of 5

What a great location for exploring the Grasmere area. Wonderfully cosy cottage with everything you could need for a relaxing break away. Felt welcoming upon our arrival. Enjoyed making and eating breakfast in the kitchen diner with beautiful views of the snow glistening on the fells, which beckoned us out each morning for our days walks. Lounge was ideal for relaxing in ( the dog loved stretching her paws out in front of the fire) and the comfy beds helped us all sleep well and refreshed for our days adventures. Had a tasty meal at the Jumble Room on Friday which is well worth a visit.

All in all, we all enjoyed our stay and would have no hesitation in recommending the cottage to anyone looking for a getaway in Grasmere. Now just need to plan another weekend of walking and return to this delightful cottage. Thank you for letting us stay Ian. We loved it!!

Cold but Cute!

  • 4 of 5

When you book the lakes in November you expect the cold, but we really couldn't warm up in this cottage. Loved the place, everything you need except wifi! walking distance to Grasmere so it is a great location. The decor is what you want in a cottage. My only real gripe is that I would like it to be more dog friendly with the garden and drive being very muddy and a wet muddy dog is hard to dry off in a cold kitchen. I will go back and take more jumpers!!

Owner's Response: Sorry you felt so cold but the new storage heaters and log fire always make it feel as warm as toast whenever I’m there

Perfect location for a relaxing & romantic break

  • 5 of 5

A charming property in (perhaps) the most beautiful part of the Lakes. With wonderful views from every window - on one side staggering peaks, on the other woodlands with an abundance of birds (leave some crumbs on the patio and see how many varieties visit).

Enjoy the peace and tranquility by the fire (bring your own fuel or purchase from a number of local shops). Enjoy the many walks from the doorstep including a hike around Sour Milk Gill or a lovely short walk over stepping stones and through ancient woodlands to the quaint village of Grassmere, with pubs, restaurants and cafes. Thoroughly recommended.

A lovely cottage.

  • 5 of 5

We spent a wonderful few days in this lovely cottage. It was close enough to the village to enjoy the local amenities, but far enough away to really benefit from the peaceful location. It was clean and well maintained with every facility as described. A charming cottage enhanced by the open fire. I really enjoyed my stay and would definitely like to return.

A great stay!

  • 5 of 5

A lovely little cottage in a great and quiet location! We had a weeks stay and would have loved longer! The cottage was very clean and tidy with all the facilities that you need! The village is 10 minutes walk with some nice restaurants and one in particular The Jumble Room! Lots of varied walks to be taken especially if you have dogs as we have. We would recommend the cottage to everyone and we will be visiting again in the near future!!!

Roundhill Cottage

  • 5 of 5

Great location, on the outskirts of the village, a lovely stroll down.

Good facilities in the house and the addition of private parking.

The property was clean and well maintained. Would visit again

and recommend to friends and family. Would also recommend a visit

to the Jumble Room (great food).
