Great stay

The house is very spacious and well looked after. Well equipped kitchen for those who love to cook and the games room will keep most kids happy.

Plenty of books and films will keep you entertained indoors if the weather doesn't allow to be outside.

We regularly rent houses for our summer holidays and this was by far the best and previous experiences weren't bad but a few boxes always remained unticked but not in this house. We definitely considering to come back-the whole family loved it.

The location us rural but plenty of villages and small towns nearby. A market is never further away than 15-20 minutes drive.

It was exactly what it said on the box and the communication and booking process was very good

The perfect 30th birthday holiday!

We were a party of 7 adults and one child, and this spacious, fun and well equipped house was the perfect base for our week away. The premises was clean and tidy, and exactly as described. There was plenty to entertain everyone when we stayed in, and the local area is simply beautiful in which enjoyed many bike rides in the sunshine, returning home to make use of the provided BBQ on more than one occasion. There's plenty of cultural highlights in the region and numerous restaurants, albeit a drive away, to sample the local delicacies. The owners were always available over the phone and happy to help if we had any queries, which went a long way with us. I would thoroughly recommend this property to anyone, and like to think I will return one day.

Wonderful Holiday

Lovely house and perfect location for a rural holiday with the family. House was clean, had all amenities and was spacious. Grounds and views were fantastic and had a trampoline for the kids. Local village has all essential shops and an expected French Bakery. Nearest town has large Supermarket. Lots of places locally for day trips, this rental holiday home was ideal for a great week away.

Great House

There's no better testimony for this house than my kids still asking "when are we going back to that great house in Normandy". Even after three months they still remember their fun times playing in the yard, or in the playroom, or reading books upstairs, or watching the corn grow, or the harvest of wheat in the surrounding fields. This is truly a great house for a family vacation. It is homey and functional, extremely spacious and generously fitted out. Quietly set back from the road, surrounded by fields, you feel a world away, yet you are a scenic drive from a range of sites and activities. The owners are great, the house and grounds immaculate. A very safe bet for an enjoyable stay. I join with my kids in hoping we will soon go back to, "that great house in Normany".

Marvellous

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Les Buards. The house is very well appointed and spacious. We were struck by the generous attention to detail the owners have put into making sure the needs of those staying there are met: the best we have come across in 15 years of renting homes in France & Spain.

Close to nature too - we saw deer feeding 50 metres from the house.

It's a beautiful part of France and Les Buards provides an excellent base from which to explore - be it the D-Day beaches and the subsequent breakout or historical France. From the house there are jogging & cycling routes and we came a cross a goodly range of places to eat in nearby Bagnoles-de-l'Orne.

Les Baurds review

We were three families with 5 kids under 5. Our dream was to stay in a farm house, in a remote farm area, with little to do other than reconnect with family and friends within a safe and comfortable environment - with all the trappings of the French lifestyle – local wine, croissants, cheese and of course our own attempts of speaking French to locals. Les Baurds completely delivered. A wonderful location – interesting to get there of course in the dark from Paris CDG – but a dream when you wake up in the day light. Kids squealing as they find the toy room – their sanctuary for the holiday. Completely fitted out house in every way, kitchen, laundry, outdoors and of course the book room. A fantastic memorable holiday with many short day trips when we felt like it to keep us all entertained. Happily recommend this place to all subsequent vacationers. It is truly a beautiful house. Location

This beautiful house is situated in idyllic countryside in the Orne department of Normandy. This was our family home for many years and so is furnished and equipped to a high standard. Over the years we’ve had many visitors, hosted many parties (including our wedding), and generally had the best of times. Everyone that visits loves it, feels at home immediately and wants to come back at the earliest opportunity. It’s a sociable house with a family room where everybody congregates while the cooking is going on, and a huge lounge with 3 big squidgy sofas. But you can also escape from everybody and have a bit of quiet time in one of the reception rooms, the library or in the garden. Children tend to disappear either to the games room, the trampoline or on the top floor landing where we have kept all of our children’s books. Teenagers will gravitate towards the table football or the X-box. There’s loads to do in this unspoilt area of France but there’s also always the temptation to stay in and enjoy the house and gardens.

Ranes is the nearest village. It has a post office, a church, bakery, small supermarket, restaurants, tennis, race course and a chateau

La Ferté Macé is a larger town with many amenities: banks, post office, at least 6 bakers, shops, bars and restaurants. There’s a small Carrefour supermarket in town and a larger Leclerc just outside. There is a great man-made lake here too with its own beach. A wonderful place to take children. There is a beach, play area and café. You can also hire pedaloes and carts to ride around the lake. It’s a lovely place to walk or take a picnic.

Bagnoles de l'Orne is a beautiful spa town with a lake, a forest and park. There's a great selection of restaurants. Lots to do including a velo rail in the summer months and the “petit-train” – a tourist train which takes you round all the sites. There is a beautiful chateau, set in gorgeous grounds.

Domfront is a lovely medieval town with cobbled streets and a ruined castle. Described as “one of the most beautiful detours in France”.

Alencon is the department capital, well worth a visit for the beautiful architecture, shops, restaurants and of course a chateau.

Falaise is the birthplace of William the Conqueror. The castle has recently been renovated and is quite spectacular. They use ipad type tablets for the tour rather than headphones.

The Haras du Pin is the most prestigious of the national studs. The show on a Thursday during the summer months is wonderful. You’ll see displays of the main 4 breeds: the Percheron, the Trotteur Français, the Selle Français and the English Thoroughbred. Even if you are not a horse owner this is a very interesting place. Good place to take a picnic.

The D-Day beaches - along the beautiful northern coastline are museums, memorials, and cemeteries telling this incredible story. This year marks the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings.

The American Cemetary - nothing quite prepares you for this but you have to see it.

No charges are incurred due to illegal activity, pets or collection of rents or services rendered during the stay.
All debris, rubbish and discards are placed in rubbish bin, and soiled dishes are placed in the dishwasher and cleaned.
No linens are lost or damaged.
There has been a reasonable use of heating and logs provided

Water and septic tank
The house has a septic tank for all waste water. The septic system is very effective; however, it will clog up if improper material is flushed. DO NOT FLUSH anything other than toilet paper. No feminine products, nappies, wipes etc. should be flushed at anytime. If it is found that anything other than toilet paper has been flushed

The History Les Buards (old French for “The Buzzards”) was built on the foundations of a chateau for an English Lord. The chateau was razed to the ground after the French Revolution and the farmhouse was built directly afterwards using the huge square-cut granite from the old chateau - some of it a gift from the Earl of Warwick. The original coat of arms still sits above the main entrance to the house. For many centuries the house at Les Buards was the centre of a thriving farming community which stretched for miles in each direction. During the Second World War Saint Georges D’Annebecq was occupied by the Germans and Les Buards was the home to the local SS officers. The village saw terrible and bloody fighting on the night of August 14th 1944. According to reports at the time from both American troops and local villagers the SS dressed in black, burned the school, the town hall and several houses in the village, knowing that they were surrounded. The church tower was twisted by artillery fire and still is. Les Buards came under attack. When liberated the residents of Saint Georges D’Annebecq greeted the soldiers of the the US 3rd Armored Division with bottles of cider and homebrewed calvados and pommeau. The bell, originally from the chapel, rang out at Les Buards to celebrate the good news.
