About this property

Charming, Stylish And Fabulously Comfortable 250 Year Old Cottage

A gorgeous detached cottage set in a stunning location high above the rooftops and historic buildings of Wirksworth. The cottage has been lovingly restored to the very highest standards. The area around the Wee House has the feel of a Cornish fishing village – a random patchwork of houses and gardens removed from traffic and noise. The Wee House is peaceful, quiet and has an ‘away from it all’ feel – yet it is only a short amble down the hill to the quirky boutique shops and independent eateries below. Great for a relaxing break away or an ideal place to set off on adventures in the surrounding Peaks – you can walk and cycle from the door.

Fantastic reviews - 5* reviews and lots of returning guests say it all for this fabulous boutique cottage.

Enhanced Covid-19 cleaning and protocols in place for a safe visit.

Downstairs the high quality finish is warm, inviting and snug; whilst upstairs has a luxurious feel which is open, light and calming. (click 'more details' for further information)

Original features abound – twisty oak beams, a gritstone hearth and deep recessed windows. These are complimented by solid oak floorboards, a fantastic wood burning stove and handmade wooden shutters. Fabulous finishing and touches throughout.

4 perfect days in the Wee House
Small but perfectly formed, the Wee House is the ideal get away. Peaceful, (no passing traffic), amazing views across the valley. Too cold to sit outside but sooo cozy inside with the fire lit. Super comfy bed in a spacious bedroom made it hard to get up every morning! Well equipped kitchen if you do cook in but many pubs and restaurants, especially the Mistral, make it unnecessary! Thank you Sarah and Mal. We hope to see you again!

Great locao
Great little cottage up on a hill with wonderful views over Wirksworth. Had everything we needed. Plenty of walking without taking the car, owners had thoughtfully left local walking books and leaflets. Quirky local cinema a few mins walk away. Nice restaurants nearby. A great place for our short stay.

Just... so nice
Mal & Sarah's place is a fabulous, well-appointed retreat from the busy-ness of many other towns. Wirksworth itself is really a good example of treading the balance between a working town and the steady march of gentrification. Most places here are run by independent locals; and so it should! Don't change because I'm going to retire here :)

Wee Cottage on the Hill
Beautifully presented little cottage with lovely patio area where you can sit with a cup of tea or glass of wine, enjoying the incredible views and tranquility of this tucked away little gem. This traditional cottage is just perfect for two. Spotlessly clean, open lounge and kitchen with all mod cons, wood burner and lots of information about the local area. Upstairs the bedroom has a gorgeous Armoire for hanging clothes, a fabulously comfortable bed which is like sleeping on a cloud. The ensuite bathroom, although modern, like the rest of the cottage still has its lovely original features. We didn't get to meet Sarah but Mal was a perfect host and explained everything we needed to know for our stay. Thank you Mal and Sarah we had a great stay and would love to come back.

Hello - we are Sarah and Mal and we live down the hill and round the corner from the Wee House on the Hill.

Why they chose this property

We were regular visitors to the Peak District and moved to Wirksworth in 1998 because it gave us all we wanted - beautiful walking and cycling country and an open and friendly community - it is a vibrant town with local shops and a thriving creative community full of designers, artists, musicians and sculptors. Wirksworth has a quaint village feel but with the benefits of all the amenities of a small town (restaurants, cafes, pubs etc). We lived in the Wee House as a rental property when we first moved to Wirksworth and fell in love with the cottage. When it came up for sale we saw it as an opportunity to lovingly improve it, and turn it into one of the best and most enjoyed holiday cottages in Derbyshire.

What makes this property unique

The 'Wee House' is stylish, comfortable and extremely well appointed with stunning views from both the cottage and garden. It is a 'top spot' literally and also because of its proximity to Peak District attractions. This quaint miners cottage has many original features, oak beams, and floorboards, gritstone fireplace with log burner. The cottage is a mix of traditional and contemporary. Downstairs offers comfort and warmth whilst upstairs offers a french boutique feel which is light, spacious and peaceful. The area surrounding the 'wee house' dates back to the 17th century and is called the 'puzzle gardens' due to the random layout of cottages and pathways which gives it a similar feel to a cornish fishing village.
