Manor house in Widecombe-in-the-Moor, Dartmoor, Newton Abbot, Devon, England - Isolated, But Within Easy Reach Of Local Amenties. A 10 Minute Walk To The Famous Rugglestone Inn

This historic 400 year old Manor House, forms part of the 6 Manors of Widecombe. This important Manor has been in existence since early medieval times. It is situated half way up the hill in an isolated and quiet position, yet is within easy reach of local amenities. The views across Dartmoor and Widecombe are among the best in Devon. The property is set within its own grounds of about 30 acres and has direct access to the moor, some of which belongs to the property. There are 7 main bedrooms, 4 with doubles and 3 with twins. There are also 2 further small bedrooms which can either be used for babies or young children on fold out beds. There are 3 sitting rooms downstairs, a kitchen/diner which has seating for 18 and a small sun room. There is also a utility room and boot room. Two of the sitting rooms have log burning stoves and TV's with Sky. Dogs are welcome as long as they are dried off before entering the main house. (An extra charge is payable for dogs, see below)

My wife and I live in North Essex with several animals, including horses, chickens, cats and dogs. We live in the countryside in the most beautiful part of Essex.

We have three children aged from 22 to 26 We own a small business based in Essex. We work long hours, seven days a week. We bought our house in 2010, we particularly wanted an isolated house in a National Park, but not too far from the sea and the main towns. Our house is perfect for our needs and we can get virtually anywhere local within 10 to 15 minutes.

Peace & Tranquility

The Manor is a wonderful property, the location is amazing and the views are stunning! Although there was only myself, my husband and our Golden Retriever staying at the Manor, it is also ideally suited to host much larger parties who want to get together for a holiday or celebration. There are plenty of rooms in which to spread out and have your own space if you want to get away from one another. The Manor is well maintained, clean and cosy despite being so large. It is lovely and warm with plenty of hot water and has really efficient showers and bathrooms.

The most wonderful part from our perspective was the total seclusion, peace and quiet - you could be the only people on the Planet. Outside there is a sheltered terrace, which is a great place to sit and admire the stunning views.

On our first morning we awoke to find sheep all over the front garden, which was a lovely surprise and the look on our Golden Retriever's face would have made an interesting YouTube video!! Our first trip to the village provided another memorable experience and further evidence of just how close we were to the moors. There were Dartmoor ponies and their foals wandering around grazing on the village green and just walking lazily up and down the surrounding lanes without a care in the World.

There are lots of beautiful walk's within a very short driving distance of the property and a very helpful information centre close by. There is one particular walk from the village which takes you across the hills and when you look back from the top, you can see the Manor tucked away on the opposite hillside and then realise how hidden away the Manor is from the rest of the World.

Colin Pharoah the Owner is really helpful and responds to any questions you may have very quickly. Jo the Housekeeper is really nice and nothing is to much trouble for her.

We had a brilliant holiday and hope to return very soon.

Three generation family weekend in a glorious spot

What a wonderful house for a family gathering, which has been updated with great taste. There were about 15 of us staying and many more who attended the birthday party of a very important 4-year old. The accommodation coped with the numbers excellently and despite it being a blustery February weekend the house surpassed our expectations in terms of space and facilities. It was immaculately clean upon arrival and the owner was extremely accommodating. Our twelve-year old granddaughter wanted to know when we could come back - in the summer? She, and the rest of our party wouldn't hesitate in recommending it as a holiday house, particularly those who enjoy the great outdoors. We will be back!

Booking Notes:
Please book by email, but by all means telephone us if you want to talk about the house and the surrounding area. A 20% deposit is payable upon booking and must be paid by bank transfer or cheque. The balance is payable 6 weeks before your booking starts. Booking terms and conditions will be sent out to you by email when you book.

Changeover Day:
Saturday is best, but we can be flexible depending on the time of year. Arrival time is 4.00pm and departure is 10.00am.

Notes on prices:
We charge £50 per week extra per person for over 14 staying. Babies free.

Please email or call if you wish to discuss prices for short breaks of 4,5 or 6 days.

We also give discounts for smaller groups, depending on time of year, please email or call to discuss.

Extra charges apply for dogs to cover cleaning and towels. Prices range from £25 to £35 per week per dog, depending on the type of dog.
Logs, kindling & firelighters can be provided for the log burners at £60 for a weeks supply

Notes on accommodation: The house is warm in the winter and reasonably cool in the summer. However Dartmoor weather can be very changeable, so bring plenty of warm clothes. There is no downstairs toilet, but there is a very posh outside toilet and wash room. Outside: There is a large patio with a barbecue area and outdoor furniture, however this is not directly attached to the house. There are extensive lawn areas around the house together with many flower beds and shrubs. All the gardens are maintained weekly by our gardener. Some of the surrounding paddocks are rented to local farmers for grazing their cattle or ponies. There is a car port, which holds 2 cars. Access onto the moor is directly from the property. Utility Room: Washing machine and condensing tumble dryer. Fridge freezer, ironing board and iron. Drying rack. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All towels and linen are included for the duration of your stay. The house is cleaned and linen changed with each new group coming in. If staying for more than 2 weeks then further cleaning and linen changing will take place. Dog towels are also provided Other: Sun room or Loggia which has a small sofa and single chair, with outstanding views across the valley. Boot room which contains the boiler, coat hangers and a bench seat.
