About the property

2 bedroom beautifully converted pilchards cellars, picturesque setting, tranquil, metres from the sea

Once you close the big oak front door, you enter a haven of tranquillity as you come into an open, glass sided, cobbled courtyard with glass walls which makes the downstairs very light and spacious. There is an internal front door which goes into a smart hallway. From one end of the hallway you go into a well designed and smart kitchen/dining room which is on one side of the courtyard.This room is well equipped and also has a stylish seating and TV area. From the other side of the hallway you go into a beautifully furnished sitting room which faces the sea on the other side.The sitting room has two large comfy sofas and two window seats and cushions so you can sit and look straight out across the cove and sea to the horizon. Plus there is a stylish desk and chair at one end. There are two lovely bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms. The larger master bedroom is upstairs, with access via a modern spiral staircase, and it has a spacious en-suite bathroom and sea views. The smart second bedroom is downstairs with a smaller en-suite. All the rooms are have lovely finishing touches that makes it feel like a home rather than a rental property. The large attractive garden has a great cobbled patio area for sitting and eating al fresco admiring the breathtaking views. There is private parking for up to two cars. The specialness of the Cellars and location is difficult to capture with words and even photos but hopefully the guest testaments and reviews will give you a feel for it. Sorry no pets allowed and the house and garden are not young children friendly so lettings for children 10 and over.

Good friends owned The Cellars and they had refurbished it to the highest standard. We fell in love with it when we visited them and when they said they had to sell, we decided we had to buy it.

What makes this cottage unique

It is on old pilchard cellars from the 18 century hence the interesting layout of the house with three sides and an internal cobbled courtyard. It is in the most amazing secluded location with breathtaking views from the house and gardens.

Notes:
A romantic hideaway for up to two couples, or for couples who enjoy walking or for a family with older children who want to explore all that the Lizard peninsula has to offer. The Cellars is the largest of only 4 traditional properties in the cove. The Cellars was originally an old pilchard cellars where pilchards were processed before sale hence the unusual three sides to the house and the internal cobbled courtyard. It has been a house for a long time but was recently renovated to a very high standard to provide luxury accommodation. It is fully centrally heated. There are no additional heating or electricity costs. Due to the drops from the garden we feel it is only suitable for children 10 and over. There is a oak/granite Utility Room with washing machine and second fridge and hooks for coats Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: We provide high quality bed linen and colourful bath towels and hand towels. Please bring your own beach towels. If you stay for two weeks or more clean linen and towels will be provided.

Stunning property, brilliant holiday

The Cellars is a really luxurious property. From the moment you push open the big old wooden doors and enter into the courtyard it welcomes you into its wonderful embrace.

It’s a very good sized property; the lounge and kitchen both have glazing down one wall which gives an incredible light and airy feel. The high spec kitchen has everything you’d need and more to cook up a feast, there’s a lovely big granite table and two sofas at the end of the room which makes it a great sociable cooking space. The lounge floor has been elevated so if you’ve not made a den on one of the two window seats you can sit on a sofa and still look out at the breath-taking sea view. Bedrooms are very comfortable with lovely bathrooms. The pieces of artwork scattered throughout the property are beautiful – it’s these touches that for me made me feel like I was staying in a “home” rather than a “rented” property. Outside the garden/patio area is huge with seating positioned so you just take in that view.

The area The Cellars is located provides you with plenty of day trip options if you wanted to, but you could just as easily spend a week without doing any day trips and just enjoy the property and it’s immediate location. The cove is great for swimming in (sea conditions allowed us to bob about happily and safely), or gazing at – we saw dolphins on our last day which was truly amazing.

Conclusion: Highly recommended. Highly likely to return soon.

Absolutely stunning!

This holiday cottage was home from home! Lovely furnishings throughout and spotless! Great views of the cove and close distance to Helston, Falmouth, Kennack Sands and Poldhu Beach. We would love to return here again for another holiday. We really loved out stay and didn't want to leave.

A Hidden Gem

We loved this property — every inch of it, from the gorgeous setting to the artwork to its former past as a pilchard cellar. No detail was overlooked. It was a perfect property for two couples, given the two lounge areas, as it provided private places for reading or conversation as well as TV or video watching. We took advantage of the coast trail at our doorstep and the village of Lizard, a short 15-minute walk. Many thanks to the owners for providing such a beautiful "home away from home" for visitors. We would love to return!

Beautiful property with fantastic views!

The Cellars has been stunningly renovated and beautifully appointed with everything one could possibly need. It was bright, warm and comfortable with 2 living areas which was great as we were two couples so it gave us our own space.

Fiona was most helpful and attentive throughout the booking process.

The Cellars had wonderful views over Church Cove on the Lizard peninsula. It had immediate access to a walking path part of the South West Coast path. Lizard village was within a short drive and an excellent pub, the Top House. Our Canadian friends and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would not hesitate to stay again.

Stunning property in an idyllic location

Having never been to Cornwall my daughter and I were looking for a base from where we could head out exploring the South West pathways. What we found on our arrival was a mouth opening property that exceeded our expectations and was perfect for our needs. We wanted somewhere that was a short walk from town but far enough away for privacy, close to the sea, near to the main costal pathways, a property of high standard, clean, tidy with everything you need and owners who are friendly, helpful and enthusiastic with what they are supplying. All boxes were ticked.

We had a glorious holiday; even the weather played its part with a mini heatwave. We loved that we could turn right or left out of the property onto the costal path and head off up the hills that had stunning views of the coves and coastline and passing beautiful harbours and beaches on the way. Do checkout Cadgwith, Kennack Beach and Coverack to the East and Kynance Cove and Mullian Cove (my personal favourite) to the West. If you are lucky; as we were, you might even get to see the seals off Lizard Point. Further afield Porthleven is a great place for a meal; especially Rick Stien’s Seafood restaurant and of course you must go to the Minack Theatre (but make sure you are suitably dressed as the wind can make it very cold if going slightly out of season). I personally wouldn’t recommend going to Lands End unless you are determined to get that photo with the Lands End sign – far too commercial for my liking. And if you don’t fancy eating out or cooking, get a Thai meal delivered – the details are in the welcome pack along with lots of other good stuff.

All in all, we came home with many happy memories, stunning photographs and a feeling we have been lucky to select the perfect place. We are definitely planning a revisit bringing the rest of the family with us.

Fantastic in every way

A truly very, very special property in an idyllic location. I'm almost loathe to recommend it too highly and risk not being able to book again.. it was so good. We stayed in the summer- weather was a little imperfect that week but there is so much to enjoy about the property itself (which has been fabulously and sympathetically adapted from original working use) and the special land and seascape around it, that I could imagine staying at any time , for any length of time (!) and in any weather. The owners are great- very considerate people who have an obviously profound connection with their property and the area around it..make sure to read their tips and recommendations !

The South West Coastal path passes alongside the end of the garden. Stunning walks and views immediately from the house. 2 miles to Lizard point (the most Southerly point of mainland Britain) one way and just under 2 miles to Cadgwith a picturesque fishing village the other. Plus the opportunity for much longer walks along the coastal path.

The house is metres from the sea in a private picturesque cove. You can swim, snorkel, kayak, fish in and around the cove. When the tide is out there is a area suitable for paddling. There is an activity company based in Lizard village, Lizard Adventure a 15 mins walk away. There are a range of fabulous beaches 10-20 minutes drive away. Kennack Sands is a popular family beach popular with surfers and boarders while the dramatic cliffs and caves of Kynance Cove make it one of the most spectacular beaches in Cornwall. Praa Sands north of Helston is lovely sandy beach for families.

The Helford River with its stunning scenery and wealth of sailing and boating options, bounds the Lizard Penisula to the north and is about a 20 minutes drive. For those that like gardens, the world famous gardens of Trebah and Glendurgan are about 45 minutes drive away just north of the Helford river and beautiful gardens are also to be found in Bosahan Estate and Bonython Estate about 20 minutes away. Poltesco Valley Stables, between Kuggar and Ruan Minor on the Lizard Penisula, caters for both experienced and novice riders with moorland hacks or seaside treks.

While it is easy to stay on the Lizard for your whole holiday, many of Cornwall’s other attractions are within reach and worth a visit:the wonderful seaside town of St Ives; the world famous Eden Project; the popular Lost Gardens of Heligan, the legendary island of St Michael's Mount and its medieval castle, the amazing open air Minack Theatre and the multi-award winning National Maritime Museum in Falmouth.

A couple of picturesque harbours with interesting galleries and gift shops are Porthleven (20 mins away) and Mousehole (40 mins away).

Further Details:

We provide a welcome pack of a bottle of champagne, flowers, nibbles, tea, coffee, sugar and fresh milk. In Lizard village, half a mile away, there is a general store plus a butcher/deli/greengrocer shop. Then in Helston 10 miles away there is a Sainsburys, Tesco, Lidl and Co-op. You will go right past the Sainsburys on the way to The Cellars from Helston.
