About the property

Cottage in Bassenthwaite, Nr. Keswick, Lake District, Cumbria, England - Cosy, Peaceful & Welcoming Cottage, A Short Drive From Keswick With Walks From The Door

Walnut Cottage is situated on the lower slopes of Skiddaw facing due West, with outstanding panoramic views over Bassenthwaite Lake and the fells beyond. The cottage is cosy, full of charm and character and retains the original oak beamed ceilings. It has recently been refurbished and tastefully decorated and furnished to a high standard. The Lake District town of Keswick is less than 5 miles away so Walnut Cottage provides an excellent base for either complete relaxation or for exploring the Lake District by car, bicycle, on foot or by using public transport (which is close at hand). Our guests have the use of a private garden and orchard immediately opposite. Facing due West it is ideal for sitting out and enjoying the late evening sun and the frequent spectacular sunsets. A gate from the rear garden leads directly onto Ullock Pike and Skiddaw, one of many wonderful walks you can take directly from the cottage.

About Carole Thompson

The owners of Walnut Cottage, Carole and Michael, live next door to the cottage so are on hand to welcome guests and help with any issues. They are very happy to give advise on walks, attractive drives or places to eat. It's very important to the owners that guests of Walnut Cottage enjoy their stay as much as possible and will help achieve that in whatever way they can.

Why Carole Thompson chose Keswick & North Lakes

The cottage sits on the slopes of the Skiddaw mountain range overlooking Bassenthwaite Lake and the surrounding Lakeland fells. The cottage really is unique.

Guestbook comments from the owner

“Well... words are beginning to fail us about this cottage and both of you! It’s all like a lovely dream every year”

“What a wonderful cottage and what an exquisite position! We have had an excellent week and really enjoyed meeting you both”

“We feel so lucky to have found this perfect little gem in the lakes. It’s like it was made for us! We have never stayed in such a comfortable or well stocked accommodation. Your little touches (like the fruit and provisions in the fridge) set your cottage apart from the rest”

Excellent stay at walnut cottage

  • 5 of 5

Myself & my husband stayed at walnut cottage for a week, week commencing Saturday 3th September. I have rated the cottage & also rated Carol & Mike, the owners in our rating as I feel a couple like these two who could not do enough for us to make sure we were comfortable & had everything we needed are priceless. We offered to be caretakers when needed we were so impressed. Touches like, milk bread eggs & marmalade in the fridge on arrival, really caring, thank you both so much & Mike your perception was right we will be back take care of yourselves X

Beautiful Cottage and helpful and kind owners

  • 5 of 5

Week of 15th March 2015 - This was our second stay in this beautiful cottage. It is so comfortable and has everything you could need. The cottage is immaculate with lovely bedding and soft furnishings. There is great walking from here and also good links to Keswick and Cockermouth. There a local pubs particularly the pub in Bassenthwaite Village. The owners are very kind and are happy to give you advice about the area. Good Wifi.

What an amazing holiday, Walnut Cottage was perfect for our break. The cottage is fantastic in such an amazing location with breathtaking views, watching the sunset behind the mountains every night was spectacular. Carole and Michael made us feel right at home. The cottage is so cosy and being pet friendly was great for us having Angus, he loved running around the orchard. The only bad thing about this cottage was having to leave, we all wish we could've stayed. We hope to be back soon for another brilliant holiday.
