Hawkwell House Cottage is a charming single-storey cottage adjoining Hawkwell House. The cottage, believed to have once been the old stables to the main house, is immaculately presented and beautifully furnished throughout. Accommodation comprises an entrance porch leading to a spacious open plan kitchen and sitting area with inglenook fireplace and wood burning stove. Utility room with washing machine, separate drier and ironing board. Comfortable sitting room with wood burning stove and television. One double bedroom with spacious en suite shower facilities. One twin room with a separate bathroom with overhead shower. Hair-dryer provided. Secure private garden to the front of the property with garden furniture. Access to a shared tennis court. Private parking area.

Notes on accommodation: Hawkwell House cottage has night store heating and solid fuel stoves (fuel is provided) and underfloor heating in both bathrooms. The cottage is non smoking and unfortunately pets cannot be accommodated. There is a telephone which only takes incoming calls. Outside: The cottage has is own private and secure front garden with garden furniture. The cottage adjoins Hawkwell House and guests are welcome to share the use of the tennis court and the gardens immediately around the tennis court. Cyclists can store their bicycles in the old stables. There is a cold water supply so bikes can be cleaned easily. Utility Room: Separate utility room with washing machine, dryer and iron and ironing board. Hoover and cleaning equipment stored. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen are incuded in the rent. Beds will be made up for your arrival. Other: Entrance porch for storing coats, footwear and tennis raquets.

Owner Rachel was most accommodating and friendly and we were warmly welcomed by Jill on arrival. Hawkwell is an oasis of calm if you just want to chill. Ideal situation for exploring Roman Wall, walking, cycling and attractions of rural Northumberland but with easy access to decent eating places, pubs and even Newcastle City centre. Something for everyone.

Loved the solitude. The cottage was fantastic. Clean, tidy ,comfortable with everything we needed. Bed was so comfy we slept in with no sounds at night to disturb us. Great place for exploring . Some fantastic castles and views. Rachael and her parents were very friendly and helpful.

Our return to Northumberland.

We came to Hawkwell House in early Spring. The hedgerows and gardens were full of blossom and even the weather was good.

The cottage is a wonderful place to stay, warm and comfortable. It is beatifully equipped and furnished and we quickly felt felt very much at home. We were met with wine and biscuits and a warm welcome by Jill and John...and Alfie.

Hawkwell Is an excellent situation for seeing much of the north East easily. We visited Bamburgh and the coast,Durham and Beamish,Rothbury and Keilder Water ,Woodhorn and the Pitman Painters

We are very much looking forward to coming back.

Gorgeous cottage in lovely part of the country!

This is an immaculately presented cottage with luxury finishes like plush towels and nice bedding. The cottage has everything you need and the owner kindly left basics such as tea bags, sugar, washing up liquid etc and even a bottle of wine and cookies. We love Northumberland and this was a great base to explore it from.

A little corner of paradise

Hawkwell cottage is an absolutely gorgeous place to stay and a real 'find'

If you are looking to stay in 5 star accommodation then look no further. It is maintained to the highest standard, superbly equipped, spotless and very comfortable. It is so cosy especially when it's cold outside boasting not just one but 2 multi fuel stoves.

The setting of the cottage is idyllic in the hamlet of Hawkwell which joins onto the picturesque village of Stamfordham. If you enjoy a game of tennis guests can play on the court of the main Hawkwell house. The cottage has an entirely separate garden and entrance making it private to the main house.

There is a pedestrian access into Stamfordham over 2 tiny foot bridges making a lovely walk past the church which leads to the Swinburne Arms, a friendly traditional pub with a recently opened village shop. A great place to stop! There are endless activities and excursions close by and the cottage has an excellent array of suggestions for days out/activities and dining.

I really can't recommend this beautiful property highly enough.

The Swinburne Arms Pub in Stamfordham is just a few minutes walk from the cottage (please note it does not serve food). Matfen village is 4 miles away and it has a village shop selling local produce, there is The Black Bull pub and Matfen Hall Hotel which offers a health and fitness spa and a 27 hole golf course .GO Ape and the Bird of Prey Centre is also situated here. High House Farm Brewery visitor centre, coffee shop, real ale bar and shop selling beer are also near by. Pontleland is a 10 minute drive and has Waitrose and Sainsburys. Post office and Banks.

The popular village of Corbridge is just a 15 minute drive and it offers a variety of good eating establishments and some lovely specialist shops. There are two Banks and a Post Office. Good river walks.

Hexham, an historic market town dominated by the Abbey, is 15 miles away and has a wide range of restaurants and pubs, a newly extended leisure centre, cinema and theatre . There are Banks, supermarkets and Post Office. Vibrant Newcastle is 18 miles away with all its culture, shopping centre, The Sage, The Baltic and now famous Millennium Bridge. The Metro Centre is also just 20 minutes drive away.

The world heritage site of the Roman Wall is on the doorstep with attractions such as Vindolanda, Housesteads. There are numerous historic houses Alniwick Castle, Wallington Hall ,Belsay and Cragside are just a few.
