About this property

Cottage in Wensleydale, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park

We have now followed government advice and reopened bookings for our cottage. We will be blocking out dates between bookings to minimise the risk to ourselves and our guests. The house will also be thoroughly cleaned between guests with particular attention to sterilising contact surfaces.

Millbeck is a converted barn on the edge of a small village, opposite the village green, with views over beautiful Wensleydale in the centre of the National Park. There are a number of established walking routes from the cottage and the village, and is ideal for touring the National Park. Local attractions include the Wensleydale Railway, the Wensleydale Creamery and Dales museum in Hawes. There is even a ropemakers and the famous Aysgarth Falls! There is a wide choice of pubs, restaurants and tea shops, as well as takeaways, in the area.

The cottage is close to the route of the Tour de France, and the area is popular with cyclists, We have a secure garage for the storage of bikes.

Rather surprisingly for a small village we now have cable internet at the cottage which is available to guests.

About the host

Millbeck is our second home, and we have been spending time there for the last 15 years. Born and brought up in Yorkshire, I spent many happy childhood holidays in the area, including visiting my aunt who lived in Dent, not far from Millbeck. Later, we spent many holidays and weekends in the area, and were delighted to take over Millbeck when it came onto the market. We arranged for the conversion of the building from a dairy and milking shed ourselves, using local contractors for the major works, and we spend several week a year staying there ourselves.

Why they chose this property

I spent much of my childhood in the area, and I have family connections to the Dales. We had been looking for a suitable property for years, and Millbeck was ideal. It is comfortable and secure, with easy access and is in a beautiful location in the tiny and peaceful village of Thornton Rust.

What makes this property unique

Milbeck is an old building, but has all the benefits of a modern house, with double glazing, central heating and proper insulation which was installed as part of the conversion which had to meet modern building regulations.

The cottage is central to the national Park, and is an ideal base for touring the whole region.
