Absolutely Wonderful

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent two wonderful weeks at Norwood celebrating retirement. The experience could not have been better!! Norwood checks off the list of what a perfect holiday rental should be, and more. It is very well kept, very comfortable, very clean and very welcoming. Arriving to a fresh cake and tea ready to brew set the tone for our fabulous stay.

Boscastle and Cornwall were a new discovery for us and far exceeded our expectations. The beauty of the coast has to be seen to truly believe it. The harbor in Boscastle is a true gem and the surrounding towns are delightful to explore. We loved walking on the Coastal path, which is within a short walking distance of Norwood.

Our absolute favorite dining/shopping was at the Boscastle Farm store...amazing!!!

Their cafe is excellent and shopping there for local produce, meats and cheeses and going home to cook on the Norwood AGA was a dream come true for a US cook.

Our entire Norwood, Boscastle and Cornwall experience was perfection...we absolutely loved it!

Wonderful home away from home

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was everything we hoped for and much more. It is beautifully appointed and so well situated in the charming village of Boscastle.

Coming from Australia we were delighted at the level of attention and thought provided by our host Nancy. Every instruction, directions and pieces of advice were spot on. It is clear Nancy is proud of Norwood, Boscastle and North Cornwall. She is a wonderful amdassodor.

We had some friends from the UK stay with us for a few days and they were blown away with the quality of the accommodation and the charm of the village.

The private parking spot was a valued extra. The free internet was realiable and speedy. As you can appreciate having a good WiFi internet connection is essential when you are travelling.

Would happily recommend Norwood to anyone wanting a a relaxed week away in the Cornish countryside.

Owner's Response: Thank-you Henry and Mary so much for your very kind comments about Norwood. We feel it is so important when Guests are looking forward to their Holiday, (especially if travelling a long distance, like you, from Australia) that Norwood welcomes you with open arms and helps you to slow down from the normal routine of life, ready to enjoy this very special County of Cornwall. I hope you enjoy the rest of your time in the UK, and have a safe journey home. With our kindest regards. Tony and Nancy.

fantastic stay, lovely house

  • 5 of 5

such a comfortable and well equipped house that had everything we needed for a weeks stay and more. All the fittings and décor was great quality and we felt at home from the moment we got there. Very dog friendly. The village shops and pubs are all a short walk away but do be prepared for steep roads. I was initially terrified at the thought of cooking with an Aga but the instructions were foolproof and it was a joy. Lovely deep bath with loads of hot water and lots of room downstairs to lounge about in. Do try this charming house, a real home from home.......

Wonderfully relaxing holiday in a beautiful house

  • 5 of 5

Everything we could need was provided at Norwood. The bed was so comfy and the bathroom lovely. The house felt warm and welcoming - we didn't want to leave!

A lovely location in Boscastle - glad there was a parking space for us as the road is narrow!

We would definitely go back, and also recommend to friends.

Just the Job

  • 5 of 5

The house is very well appointed and very comfortable, we had a lovely week. Norwood is very well placed to get on the coastal path, ideal for our dog, and equally well placed to wander down to Boscastle harbour. Three nice pubs, all dog friendly, are in easy walking distance and all serve good pub grub, we particularly liked the Cobweb Inn.

I would certainly recomend Norwood to friends and we would book again if we were having a break in Boscaslte.

Location

From the Owner

We had been going to Cornwall a long time on holiday. The walking is very special if you are willing to venture out. The area around North Cornwall has some of the best Walking in the West Country. Boscastle is one of our favourite place, so when the opportuity came up to purchase Norwood we went for it. We spent lots of time and money restoring it back to it's lovely Victorian beauty. It's very comfortable, but with all the modern conveniences one would expect. Norwood is in the old original Boscastle village (very special) away from the busy Harbour but close enough to just wander down to get the morning paper or a loaf of bread from the Bakers. Pubs are walking distance so no need to use the car. The street is very quiet, the house is set nicely above the road so your privacy will not invaded. Boscastle is an excellent base for touring the area, including Bodmin moor close by.

Activity and Interests

Watergate Bay: 40mins by car. Very long beach. Surfing. Very special. Bude: 20mins by car. Coast and Channel Walks. Port Quin: 25mins by car. Learn to Kayak or try coasteering (jumping off rocks). Or walk across the fields to Port Isaac and back by the coast path, allow yourselves enough time. Take provisions. "Lovely walk".

Newquay Airport: 40 mins. Hire car available.

Exeter Airport: 60 mins.

Bodmin Railway Station: 35 mins.

A car is not essential if prepared to travel by bus.

Distances:

Tintagel 10mins: Bus from Boscastle walk back by Coast Path. Camelford 15mins: shopping. Close to the Moor. On a clear day walk up to Roughtor and Brown Willy. Left out of car park, few hundred yards, turn right sign post Roughter. Lunch at the top, "enjoy the view." Wadebridge 25mins: Hire cycles (get a Buggie on the back for little Dog) cycle along the Camel Trail to Padstow, feast on Rick Steins fish and chips before cycling back to Wadebridge. "Lovely way to spend a day." Padstow car 30mins.

Further Details:

Cornwall is Magical, full of surprises if you are willing to venture out. A beautiful diverse part of the Country. A paradise for walkers, the wild flowers are stunning, birds and butterflies a plenty. With sheltered wooded valleys, to the Coast Path, with it's magnificent splender, "it will have it's own special hold on you." The more of it you walk, the more you want. Bodmin Moor is in easy reach of Boscastle, 10mins. From walking up Roughtor (this is the Tor you can see on the left coming out of Boscastle on the way to Camelford. The view on a clear day is breathtaking) to walking around some of the old Tin Mines. The Moor is a very calming place, quiet, time to think. (Please only venture on the Moor on a clear day) There are lots of walking books and maps at the House for you to use. Some of our favorite walks too. "So turn off the phone and charge your batteries." you will be glad you came. The Lost Garden's of Heligan and the Eden Project are in easy reach by car, with many more National Trust Houses and Gardens within easy travelling distance.

Facilities

From the Owner

Norwood is in a quiet area of the village. The house with it's Victorian charm will look after you. Forget what day it is, it really doesn't matter. Charge you batteries, find new ways of just doing what you want and when you want. Go for a walk on the Coast Path, (mind you might find you get hooked). Take the bus to somewhere (how long is it since any of us have been on a bus) Visit Minster Church, magical (you can walk from Norwood up to the fields you see in front of you, back down the valley to the Harbour) Car 2 mins. Don't fancy any of that, then just mess about at Norwood for the day, have a good read (we have some very good books for your use) perhaps go for a pub lunch. "It's your hoilday, your time. Enjoy." At Norwood you have the whole house (no sharing) Bedrooms have their own private facilities. Enclosed safe garden for Pets.
