About the property

Cottage in Worth Matravers, Nr. Swanage, Dorset, England - Peaceful Location 10 Minutes Walk To The South Coast Path and Water

Charming, four bedroom, three bathroom cottage in one of the most beautiful villages on the Jurassic Coast on the Isle of Purbeck. Purbeck is well-known for its relaxed rural lifestyle and its varied, spectacular scenery. The cottage was completely renovated and completed in July 2012. The cottage is perfect for relaxed family summer holidays and lovely in the winter for walking holidays or just a quiet escape.

About Nicki Unsworth

We are a local family who moved to Dorset from Berkshire a few years ago. We love renovating and decorating - our own place (also in Worth Matravers) was lovingly designed and decorated by us. This holiday cottage is our latest endeavour. We really love the house, the views, the village, the walks and the local food - and we are sure you will too!

Nicki Unsworth purchased this in 2012

Why Nicki Unsworth chose Worth Matravers

After moving to Worth Matravers ourselves, we immediately fell in love with it. When this dilapidated property became available we saw huge potential for a lovely holiday cottage and we jumped at the chance to create a luxury Dorset haven. Freshly renovated in time for Summer 2012, it is the perfect getaway for 4 couples or 2-3 families (or one really large family!)

Worth Matravers is one of the most beautiful villages in England, within easy reach of London, but feels a million lies away. It is quiet, beautiful, there are wonderful walks and lovely old country pubs to relax in.

What makes this unique

We want this cottage to be a home away from home. We have decorated it simply and stylishly. It has a state of the art kitchen for foodies like us, a warm and cosy living room, with exposed brick fireplace, and wood burner and bay windows with beautiful views over the surrounding countryside to the sea. For those who still want to be connected with the rest of the world, there is an LCD TV/Roku, internet and iPod dock.

The four bedrooms are bright and airy, with brand new beds and simple crisp white bedlinen with snug duvets and down pillows. There are three bathrooms (one en-suite) and a separate WC downstairs.

The cottage is located on the edge of Worth Matravers village. The coastal path can be accessed directly from a footpath outside the cottage - no need to ever see a road.

Guestbook comments from the owner

I just wanted to let you know how much we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hill Cottage this New Year.

The cottage was clean, comfortable and wonderfully equipped. Although the weather was a bit wild, we did make the most of the wonderful walking opportunities and our labrador (needless to say) has been in a right strop since returning to the city.

I wrote suitable compliments in your visitors' book and will recommend you to all my friends.

Kind regards and thank you for all your help.

Thank You for a wonderful weeks stay at Hill Cottage. Sorry to miss your call on Saturday but we didn't have any phone reception when you called. We left the property just before ten to make the most of the weather down at Studland beaches.

The house exceeded our expectations (not that we thought it'd be bad so please accept this in the good manner it is intended) and you as property owners were great, knowing you were on hand but not at all intrusive.

Lovely cottage.

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is comfortable, very well equipped with fantastic views. The one pub in the village is very busy with walkers and alot of the time difficult to get in, hence you have to sit outside which will be fine in the summer. The wood burner was a godsend as we had a big storm and a power cut in the morning so we boiled water and eggs on the burner we all had quite a laugh, power was restored quite quickly. The Scott Arms was a good pub 2 miles away although we didn't eat there the pub is a fair size and food looked nice.

Fantastic accommodation in a great location

  • 5 of 5

We’ve stayed before so this was like catching up with an old friend.

High standards as ever, and extremely comfortable for a “larger” family.

We look forward to our next visit!

A great time at a lovely cottage

  • 5 of 5

We all 10 of us had a wonderful time, in and out side the cottage. From BBQ's to watching the storm over the sea. There was everything you need in this clean and comfortable home. We visited many places, Swanage, Weymouth, Bournemouth. The whole area is amazing, so well kept, everywhere was so clean. We ran out of time and all wished we could have stayed longer. This is a place we know we will revisit.

Nearest petrol station is at Harman's Cross, around two miles distant, also with a convenience store.

Further Details:

The cottage is situated on a south facing slope above the sea, on the edge of the lovely village of Worth Matravers on the Isle of Purbeck. The village is postcard pretty, a cluster of Purbeck stone cottages built around the village green and duck-pond.

There is an old-fashioned tea shop which serves traditional cream teas, lunch and supper and a nationally renowned pub, The Square and Compass, with outstanding views over the coast. There is also an ice-cream shop in the village selling Purbeck ice-cream which is made just a couple of miles away! There is a small children's play area in the village.

Kingston is 2 miles away where there is an excellent pub, The Scott Arms, serving great pub food, and with a garden with spectacular views of Corfe Castle.

The cottage is 4 miles from the Corfe Castle and 5 miles from the seaside town of Swanage, which has a delightful beach. The lovely market town of Wareham, situated on the west shore of Poole harbour is 8 miles away. Arne bird sanctuary, on the beautiful marshlands that look towards Sandbanks, is a short drive away.

The cottage is situated at the heart of a number of footpaths and bridleways which criss cross the National Trust land which surrounds the village, you need never walk on a road. In fact, if you walk down the track from the cottage to Winspit Cove, you can keep walking for about 600 miles on the Coastal Path, just keep the sea to your left!
