Charming, four bedroom, three bathroom cottage in one of the most beautiful villages on the Jurassic Coast on the Isle of Purbeck. About Nicki Unsworth

We are a local family who moved to Dorset from Berkshire a few years ago. We love renovating and decorating - our own place (also in Worth Matravers) was lovingly designed and decorated by us. This holiday cottage is our latest endeavour. We really love the house, the views, the village, the walks and the local food - and we are sure you will too!

Nicki Unsworth purchased this in 2012

Why Nicki Unsworth chose Purbeck

After moving to Worth Matravers ourselves, we immediately fell in love with it. When this dilapidated property became available we saw huge potential for a lovely holiday cottage and we jumped at the chance to create a luxury Dorset haven. Freshly renovated in time for Summer 2012, it is the perfect getaway for 4 couples or 2-3 families (or one really large family!)

Worth Matravers is one of the most beautiful villages in England, within easy reach of London, but feels a million lies away. It is quiet, beautiful, there are wonderful walks and lovely old country pubs to relax in.

What makes this unique

We want this cottage to be a home away from home. We have decorated it simply and stylishly. It has a state of the art kitchen for foodies like us, a warm and cosy living room, with exposed brick fireplace, and wood burner and bay windows with beautiful views over the surrounding countryside to the sea. For those who still want to be connected with the rest of the world, there is an LCD TV/Roku, internet and iPod dock.

The four bedrooms are bright and airy, with brand new beds and simple crisp white bedlinen with snug duvets and down pillows. There are three bathrooms (one en-suite) and a separate WC downstairs.

The cottage is located on the edge of Worth Matravers village. The coastal path can be accessed directly from a footpath outside the cottage - no need to ever see a road.

Guestbook comments from the owner

I just wanted to let you know how much we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hill Cottage this New Year.

The cottage was clean, comfortable and wonderfully equipped. Although the weather was a bit wild, we did make the most of the wonderful walking opportunities and our labrador (needless to say) has been in a right strop since returning to the city.

I wrote suitable compliments in your visitors' book and will recommend you to all my friends.

Kind regards and thank you for all your help.

Thank You for a wonderful weeks stay at Hill Cottage. Sorry to miss your call on Saturday but we didn't have any phone reception when you called. We left the property just before ten to make the most of the weather down at Studland beaches.

The house exceeded our expectations (not that we thought it'd be bad so please accept this in the good manner it is intended) and you as property owners were great, knowing you were on hand but not at all intrusive.

Travel:

Bournemouth airport is 26 miles away and takes around 50 mins by car.

The port of Poole is 17 miles away and takes around 35 mins by car.

The nearest mainline railway station is Wareham, 9 miles away taking 20 mins by car. Journey time from Wareham to London (Waterloo) is 2 hours 20 mins.

Distances:

The Cottage is approximately 400m from the village centre and the famous Square and Compass pub.

Nearest petrol station is at Harman's Cross, around two miles distant, also with a convenience store.

Further Details:

The cottage is situated on a south facing slope above the sea, on the edge of the lovely village of Worth Matravers on the Isle of Purbeck. The village is postcard pretty, a cluster of Purbeck stone cottages built around the village green and duck-pond.

There is an old-fashioned tea shop which serves traditional cream teas, lunch and supper and a nationally renowned pub, The Square and Compass, with outstanding views over the coast. There is also an ice-cream shop in the village selling Purbeck ice-cream which is made just a couple of miles away! There is a small children's play area in the village.

Kingston is 2 miles away where there is an excellent pub, The Scott Arms, serving great pub food, and with a garden with spectacular views of Corfe Castle.

The cottage is 4 miles from the Corfe Castle and 5 miles from the seaside town of Swanage, which has a delightful beach. The lovely market town of Wareham, situated on the west shore of Poole harbour is 8 miles away. Arne bird sanctuary, on the beautiful marshlands that look towards Sandbanks, is a short drive away.

The cottage is situated at the heart of a number of footpaths and bridleways which criss cross the National Trust land which surrounds the village, you need never walk on a road. In fact, if you walk down the track from the cottage to Winspit Cove, you can keep walking for about 600 miles on the Coastal Path, just keep the sea to your left!

Fantastic accommodation in a great location

  • 5 of 5

We’ve stayed before so this was like catching up with an old friend.

High standards as ever, and extremely comfortable for a “larger” family.

We look forward to our next visit!

A great time at a lovely cottage

  • 5 of 5

We all 10 of us had a wonderful time, in and out side the cottage. From BBQ's to watching the storm over the sea. There was everything you need in this clean and comfortable home. We visited many places, Swanage, Weymouth, Bournemouth. The whole area is amazing, so well kept, everywhere was so clean. We ran out of time and all wished we could have stayed longer. This is a place we know we will revisit.

A wonderful Holiday

  • 5 of 5

A very well equipped, comfortable home. It truly felt like a second home versus a rental property. Dog and child friendly! A great location for exploring the local area, monkey world, Peppa Pig World. We could easily have spent 3 weeks and still not seen all the sights! A lovely quiet village, helped by being a no through road village, lots of walkers and visitors at the weekend visiting the great local pub (square and compass) - its actually still a real pub with excellent choice of local ales, ciders etc. The village tea rooms are also first class and a must visit for lunch.

The property itself has a nice 3 sided, largely lawned garden, it isn't enclosed so dogs as naughty as ours need to be watched! There is everything you need supplied, travel cot, child gates x2, Wifi, DVD, large screen smart TV etc. You could make any meal possible in the very well equipped kitchen. I liked the Nespresso coffee machine! Very comfy beds throughout and good bathrooms. We were a family a 4 adults (2 couldn't make it at last minute, 2 children and 2 dogs). We would highly recommend and would certainly return to the area and the house. Finally booking and all communication was good albeit communicating with different people with different email addresses could be simplified (I had to find something to improve on however small!!!!). Thanks for a memorable holiday

A beautiful holiday property

  • 5 of 5

Booking easy, efficient and secure. Easy communication with owners. Great arrival information, clear and precise. The house was all ready for us, clean, warm and inviting. Basics in the fridge, very welcome. Good equipment and facilities, comfortable rooms. Fabulous location, great views and walking in every direction, including straight down to the Coast path. Highly recommended.
