The property has been renovated and tastefully decorated with gas central heating throughout. Christmas at colourfield

Wonderful warm welcome awaited us on a damp and drizzly night.The bottle of fizz and crackers on the kitchen table was a nice touch, thank you. Nicely appointed cottage close to town, with pretty much everything you would want. Parking was a bit hap hazard but the warm soon got you passed that. Would happily stay again but some sharp knives in the kitchen and a few litter bins around the place would be a welcomed addition. Thanks David

Great little house in Pickering

Stayed here for the Bank Holiday weekend, while we were orienteering locally.

Very clean and well equipped, with free WiFi. Bedrooms and kitchen spacious. Location is good - a five minute walk to the high street in Pickering. Unrestricted parking outside house - as long as there are spaces (we had to drive around the block on one day).

Local chippie - a few doors away - well worth a visit. We also ate at The Black Swan - great dog-freindly pub, within walking distance in Pickering.

We have two dogs, and the owners were happy for us to take, as long as they stayed downstairs and not on furnitture. Dalby Forest is only a few miles away and provides an excellent dog walking area.

**fab cottage **

Just returned from 3 nite weekend stay at colourfield cottage - what a fab cottage - easy access , parked 2 cars free of charge outside property - big bonus . The cottage is really clean , beautifully decorated & very well equipped for a family stay ( the welcum biscuits were beautiful- thanks ) it has a really pretty outdoor courtyard which leads over to a fab private garden space ( BBQ also available ) - comfy beds & lovely 100%cotton bed linen in double . 👍

The position of cottage is perfect - & opposite literally to the best fish & chips we have had ( potter hill fisheries ) - 🐟lovely pubs & tea shops on door step - short drive to all coastal resorts - was a pleasure to stay in & would highly recommend to families & couples alike - we would return without hesitation - well done to the owners ( who were also very prompt organising information/ payment etc)

We bought the cottage in 2011 after visiting Pickering (and eating at the White Swan - much recommended!). We hadn't really noticed Pickering before as you go past it on the way to Whitby (we live in York). However, the place is beautiful and a perfect base to go walking and cycling and just plain exploring. The town itself has really come alive and, as well as the obvious steam train railway and frankly, wacky, war time weekend (which is incredibly popular!) it has loads of wonderful deli's and restaurants and a whole range of pubs to suit all tastes.

This is a great location for walkers, mountain bikers and steam enthusiasts


A 25 minute drive to Scarborough and 30 minutes from Whitby.


Durham/Teeside Airport is about 50 minutes away and Leeds/Bradford airport is just over an hour. The house can be reached by public transport.


York is 30 minutes away and you are on the edge of the Moors for walking.

Further Details:

Pickering is renowned for its market and Steam train railway. There is also a castle to explore.

We really like sitting out in the garden on warm days and occasionally popping into town for a coffee. In the evenings we often pop round the corner to The Sun pub - very friendly and great beer - and you can sit out in their garden as well (with it's own petanque green!)
