Short stays available most of the year Friday to Monday and Monday to Friday and are charged at approximately 65% of weekly rate.

The Dovecote is a 200 year old barn conversion with original beams, Victorian doors and panelled window seats. Sleeps maximum of 8 plus 1 infant in a cot which we provide on request. Large living room with 3 sofas, tv and free wifi. Spacious kitchen diner with farmhouse table to seat 8. Bedrooms comprise of 1 x superking with dressing room, 1 x double and 2 x twin bedded rooms. The upper bathroom has bath and shower and the lower shower room has large shower and twin washbasins, the cloakroom has toilet and washbasin. There is a utility room with washing machine, tumble dryer and freezer. The large ground floor games room has full size pool table, table tennis, air hockey, table football and darts. Garden with lawn and patio area with outdoor table and chairs.

1 garage and offroad parking for 3 cars.

The Dovecote is situated in the village 250m from the Masons Arms Pub which is well known for it's hospitality and good food. There is a bakery 100m from the house which sells pies and cakes.

Appleby golf club is 7 miles away offering a superb moorland 18 hole course set in 400 acres where visitors are made very welcome.

Long Marton is situated 2 miles from the Pennine fells, 3 miles to Appleby where there is a good selection of shops, pubs, take aways and swimming pool. 11 miles to Penrith where there are a number of supermarkets, specialist shops, restaurants, cinema, theatre and leisure centre. Idealy situated for touring The Lake District, Yorkshire Dales, Eden Valley, The Borders and Scotland.

About the Owner

Ben and Kay Eggleston. In 1980 we bought the 200 year old village Tythe barn and converted it into our home. In the 19th century the Vicar kept doves in the barn which gave us the perfect house name, The Dovecote. Our family have been very happy living in this wonderful house in the very friendly village. Now we are empty nesters and have moved to a smaller property closer to our family.

Amazing

Excellent family holiday with family visiting from India and US. Spacious, clean accommodation with attention to detail. Lovely, thoughtful gesture in providing us with essentials on the first day. Games room was a hit with children and adults alike.

Surrounding area was beautiful within easy distance of most of the northern Lakes. Local access to supermarkets and restaurants.

Would definitely recommend and would definitely like to return

Great weekend with friends

We were looking for a cottage for 2 families of 4 to meet up for a weekend away. The Dovecote looked great on the photos and it looked even better when we arrived. The owners were really helpful with information and directions before our stay and there was lots of useful information in the cottage.

The wine and goodies were very well received and we felt very much at home. I have stayed in many holiday cottages and this was one of the cleanest. Everything we could have wanted was there including a barbeque so we could make the most of the warm weather.

The children (ages 6-11) loved the games room and the huge lounge worked really well for 2 families. I would certainly recommend the cottage for any large family / group of friends / 2 families together.

Thanks for a fantastic weekend, we hope to come back again!

A Fabulous Family Getaway!

The property was beautifully presented, very well equipped and provides ample space for a family holiday. The village location was perfect, close to a country pub and driving distance to the main attractions of the area. The games room was a winner. Ben and Kay provided great advice and local expertise as we were planning our visit and their attention to client service was outstanding.

Dovecote is a winner

Our family New Year was welcomed in an ideal cottage for up to eight people. Located a few miles from Appleby in the quiet village of Long Marton, Westmorland it is a perfect spot to take in the wonderful countryside.

Everything to do with the booking and the stay was managed without a hiccup in the most helpful way by Ben & Kay, facilities were precisely as described.

On arrival we found a welcome pack including a bottle of champagne to ease our way into the New Year, very thoughtful.

The property was very comfortable and large enough to cope easily with our party of seven. Even the winter weather was not a problem with a large games room offering an alternative distraction.

I would certainly consider a summer holiday at the cottage when we could enjoy the countryside to its' fullest.

The Dovecote

This was a fantastic holiday at the Dovecote. Two families together which included 4 teenagers. The place was fantastic. It was so clean, everything from bedding to towels to the full contents of the Barn all matched to the highest standard. The games room was great for all of us. The competitions were great fun. Thank you so much for your welcome pack, which was like no other. Wine was the best but the bread, milk etc was also very much appreciated. Your kindest was very much appreciated.

Cosy & Comfortable

We'd like to say how much our family enjoyed staying at the Dovecote. Ben & Kay were delightful and the property warm, clean and comfortable and the goodies they left us were much appreciated. The cottage has everything you could need. The children enjoyed the games room and the surrounding area is very scenic. We particularly enjoyed our walk around Ullswater and the children liked Crafty Monkeys in Penrith.

The main reasons for buying a property in Long Marton were the friendly village and the excellent school. A chance to own a spacious detached home in a great location. Easily accessible as it's only 1 mile from the A66 and 15 minutes drive from the M6.

The Masons arms is a superb pub/restaurant only 250 metres from the house with a warm welcome and delicious food. Bakery 100 metres selling pies, cakes etc. Appleby is only 3 miles away where there are Banks, restaurants and take aways. There are 2 small supermarkets open from 8am to 10pm daily. Appleby has an indoor heated swimming pool. In Penrith 11 miles away there is a cinema, a selection of larger supermarkets and other shops and a leisure centre with indoor heated pool.
