Delightful cosy romantic retreat in great location.Pets ok,walks, woods, beaches.

Updated: 10-Oct-2016
Cosy 1 BR cottage, near Port Isaac, coastal walks, woods, beaches, pets welcome

Appletree Cottage is a tastefully renovated quarryman’s' cottage, perfect for 2 adults, looking for a relaxing break . Regretfully not suitable for children, although small babies (ie not crawling ) are fine, with own equipment.

.It is set in a wooded valley, surrounded by open farmland. Exposed beams throughout and furnished in a simple country style, with original art, country furniture and oriental rugs and inglenook fireplace with woodburning stove ( logs included ) A courtyard garden to the front of the cottage gets morning sun and is full of pots of flowers in season - a nice spot for breakfast! The kitchen is very well equipped with everything you need, there is also a dining table and chairs for 2.

The living room is cosy, with plenty of magazines and books, freesat tv, and art to look at. Comfy sofa with throw and large armchair to relax in.

The bedroom is light and airy with vaulted ceiling and exposed beams, wardrobe and lots of storage for your things. The bed is very comfortable and has cotton bed linens freshly ironed ( by me !) and a lovely hand made bedspread on it. Extra blanket available and dual control electric blanket for the cooler months, there is also a small heater. The bathroom is spacious and situated right opposite the bedroom making it virtually en suit Towels are included.

.A lovely romantic retreat in the heart of North Cornwalls majestic scenery, cosy and comfortable in all seasons,an ideal base for exploring or just relaxing in the peaceful surroundings. Lovely walks on the doorstep, the coastal path, beaches and Bodmin Moor are within easy reach, and our Bluebell woods are just down the lane.Port Isaac with its' many resturants, cafes and interesting shops is just 10/15 minutes away. The new Doc Martin series will be shot in Port Isaac from April to August 2015, come and watch the filming and perhaps meet the cast ! In the spring of '16 filming will start for the biopic of the now famous Fishermans Friends, with some familiar faces among the cast!

About the Owner

Life has carried me in many directions, but time and again, Cornwall always calls me back , I have lived in the county for 30 years and wouldn't want to live anywhere else.I bought the cottage about 10 years ago and started letting in 2012, I come from an artistic background and the cottage reflects that with lots of original artwork and handcrafted items for guests to enjoy.I am a keen gardener so there are always colourful plantings in the courtyard garden and fresh flowers in the house.I feel very lucky to have found such a lovely spot as Newhall Green,it is my sincere wish that you will love Appletree cottage as much as I do.

Lovely, cosy cottage.

  • 5 of 5

Lovely cottage, just right for a couple, lots of individual features, clean and comfortable. If you are taller than 5ft 5inches watch your head when you come out of bedroom/bathroom! Very helpful owner Francesca. Tucked in a peaceful hamlet, great pub food in White Hart in St Teath, 1 mile away. (Also lovely food above pub average in St Kew, essential to book unless you arrive at 6, 3 tables in bar not reserved) Easy reach of North Cornwall coast. (Port Isaac, Tintagel and Boscastle). Definitely need own transport to make most of holiday, would consider again if coming to this part of Cornwall.

Lovely holiday in a cosy cottage

  • 4 of 5

The cottage is cosy and welcoming. Francesca (the owner) is very friendly and helpful. A great location for exploring Port Isaac, Tintagel, Boscastle, the Eden Project, Padstow and many other areas. There is plenty to do! We really enjoyed our holiday! Thank you!

Fond memories of one sunny week in June!

  • 5 of 5

On the day of our arrival, Francesca was there to greet us and show us where everything was. We could not have wished for anything more. The property was absolutely spotless, and catered for our every need. The village is absolutely delightful, and the silence is 'deafening'! We soon found our way around, and found the dog walking paths which were located a matter of yards from our door. The delightful village of Tithe was just a mile away, and had a wonderfully welcoming pub, with an equally welcoming landlord. The situation of the village is central to Tintagel and Boscastle to the north, and Port Isaac, Rock, and of course Padstow to the south (although it may be worth remembering Padstow gets very busy when parking, so it is easier to park at Rock and get the ferry across!). All in all it was a most pleasant stay, and one we will most certainly be repeating in the near future, and one we will be recommending to our friends.

Tranquility in beautiful Cornwall

  • 5 of 5

From the minute we arrived, we felt right at home in this beautiful cottage. It was cosy and had everything we needed and the location was fab.....could visit all the places we wanted to including Port Isaac, Padstow and Tintagel. Francesca made us most welcome and gave us a very useful quick tour of the cottage when we arrived. If you're looking to escape the hustle and bustle then this is the perfect place!

Peaceful, cosy and charming little cottage!

  • 4 of 5

Quiet hamlet near to St Teath and Delabole. Very peaceful location with great countryside walks on the doorstep. Appletree Cottage is clean, basic and has everything you need including Wifi (code in the information book) and most importantly a much needed log burner for chilly evenings. The courtyard garden is secure which was important for me as my dog in an escapee! The bed is very comfortable indeed, the best I've ever encountered in a holiday rental property!

Francesca (the owner) popped by on our first night to see if we'd settled in ok, she's a very nice helpful lady and on hand across the road if you need her.

During our stay we visited Trebarwith Strand, Boscastle, Tintagel, Port Isaac and Daymer Bay at Rock. Check out the tide times before you visit the North Coast because the beaches are best at low tide.

At Tintagel you can explore Merlin's Cave (at low tide) and visit the castle ruins. Very steep path down from the village to the beach, we walked down and caught the Land Rover shuttle back up. There is a wonderful shop in the village where you can buy locally made honey.

Boscastle has a pottery, nice gift shops and beautiful harbour. A very quiet place but worth a visit.

At Rock you can catch a small ferry boat to Padstow. At low tide Daymer Bay has a fantastic large sandy beach, we parked at Rock and walked to New Polzeath which is approximately a 5 mile round trip.

Make sure you have loose change for parking everywhere you go. There aren't facilities for cashless parking at most places. Port Isaac has got 'park by text' but I didn't have mobile signal.

All in all we've had a lovely stay at Appletree Cottage, love the fact the understairs cupboard door is 'Cornish' it doubles up as the lounge door! Found this really unusual and intriguing!

Easter break

  • 5 of 5

We arrived quite late in the day after dark at Appletree cottage. Just before arriving we received a lovely message from Francesca the owner wondering what time we were likely to arrive and were then greeted and helped into our unfamiliar parking space. Very warm welcome and was then shown around what was to be our home for a week. Very comfortable and cosy we quickly settled in and lit a log fire for the evening. The tiny village of Newhall Green is in a sheltered spot and there are some lovely walks right on the doorstep. We may return as we had to leave behind all the hedgerows in the lanes leading away from the village ready to burst into Spring colour so missed out on their full beauty. A heavenly find for a quiet holiday and an excellent base for visiting nearby Port Isaac and Tintagel

There's a fabulous garage not too far away where you will find everything you could possibly need including the best scones I've ever tasted. Fish & chips from Trusscotts in Newquay eaten in the car looking over the rooftops to the sea were amazing as was a pint of pear cider at Gyllys bar down on the beach in Falmouth
