Beautiful Grade 2 Listed Cosy Barn Conversion

Overview

Property

Updated: 05-Dec-2016
Barn Near Pwllheli, Abersoch, Criccieth, Wales - Country Location On Lleyn Peninsula, Near Beach, Marina, Mountains, Free Wifi, Pets Welcome

This beautiful cosy old barn is full of character and history. There is a traditional wood-burning stove to toast you gently in the evenings, and a roll-top bath to help you soak the sand out of your toes after a day on one of the Lleyn's many stunning blue flag beaches. Pwllheli Marina is only a mile away, with fashionable Abersoch beyond and Criccieth with it's castle just a few miles in the opposite direction. We are also pet-friendly. Dogs love the beach at Abererch, and the trails and coastal paths of the peninsula, and we understand that a holiday just isn't the same without them.

Built as a gig (carriage) house in 1831 for the local vicar to park his coach and horse at the village church, the building has been renovated with great attention to detail. The old original stonework and timbers have been blended with all the best of modern amenities, from the handmade kitchen and modern bathroom, to the underfloor heating driven by an eco-friendly Air Source Heat Pump. We also provide free broadband Wifi.

Lovely cottage BUT LOCATED ON A GRAVEYARD

  • 1 of 5

Lovely spacious cottage with an amazing view from the front of the building. kitchen has lots of utensils, oven was easy to use. Didn't use the hob as I didn't know how to turn it on.

The beds are very comfy and a nice size. The cottage is clean and well maintained.

The spiral staircase could be a problem for some people but I managed just fine.

I was very shocked to find the cottage is located on a GRAVEYARD and this is not mentioned anywhere in property or location discription. The gates at the side of the cottage lead straight onto the graveyard, there are graves that close they actually touch the cottage walls, the window by the dining table and the bedroom with the 2 beds directly over look the graveyard.

No wood for the wood burner.

Microwave turned itself off after 2minutes.

Path to the beach is very difficult to find, it's located just after the side entrance to the graveyard and you have to walk though fields, I found it easier to drive and park the car by the railway..

Lovely beach very pretty cottage but would not stay again because of the graveyard I wish I was told this before hand or when booking.

Book The Gig House-You Won't Be Disappointed

  • 5 of 5

If your search has directed you to The Gig House, then book it. This is a real gem, from the minute you walk through the door there is a welcoming comfortable feeling, right down to the luxury towels and bed linen that you wouldn't find better in a five star hotel.

The house is located in a quiet village, with friendly neighbours offering advise on where to go or just a cheery wave, a short pleasant walk to the beach and a must is a walk along the river.

There are comments about the stairs, yes they are spiral but they are part of the charming character of the property, not a problem for us.

We will certainly be booking this property again.

Lovely place to stay

  • 5 of 5

Great property, nicely done inside. Very comfortable lounge and bedrooms. Fantastic use of space and renovated to a high spec. Log burner in lounge which wasn't needed in June but can imagine it would be nice and cosy on a cold night. Nice village and we were able to walk to the beach. Not to far to nearby town, managed to walk home after a night out. Lovely part of Wales and lots to do nearby. Lovely ice cream at Cadwaladers. Would recommend and visit again next time we are in Wales

Great Little Cottage

  • 4 of 5

We had a lovely week in this great little cottage. It's compact but has everything that you need. The underfloor heating makes it really nice and warm but there is an additional log burner should you need it. The cottage is in a quiet village location with easy access to the beach and local town. The garden is a courtyard which is to the front of the property. There isn't any privacy as you are directly on to the road but as the village is quiet and the locals all very friendly this isn't a problem. The king size bed was extremely comfortable but it should be noted that the stairs are a very steep spiral so care needs to be taken! Overall a lovely, comfortable cottage.

Cosy retreat

  • 5 of 5

We very much enjoyed our winter break. The property is lovely and warm,a pleasure to return to after an invigorating walk at Abererch sands. It is well equipped with plenty of space for two adults and two teenagers. It is in an ideal location to explore all areas including Snowdon,Abersoch, Nefyn,Porthdinllaen, all with outstanding beauty. Pwllheli and Porthmadog have good supermarkets. We really recommend this cottage it's a gem and look forward to staying again in the near future.

The Perfect Place

  • 5 of 5

The property was exactly as described. We had a very relaxing time, the Gig House is really lovely; very clean and comfortable with all the facilities you need when having a break. It was very warm and we didn't need to light the log burner but there were plenty of logs by the fire should we have needed to. The kitchen is well equipped with plenty of storage places. There was plenty of hot water everyday for baths and showers before sitting in the courtyard with a cold glass of something refreshing and chatting with passers-by.

The local people are very friendly; some stopped to talk and wished us a pleasant holiday and offering ideas for visits to local attractions. The village of Abererch is so pretty and just a fifteen minute walk to the beautiful, quite beach; our dog loved running on the clean sands.

The town of Pwllheli is a 5 minute drive or a 1/2 hour stroll. lovely market on a Wednesday; supermarkets and coffee shops.

Places such as Bangor, Snowden, Porthmadog, Caernarfon, wait for it......Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch are all within a 45 minute drive away.

We will return to this Welsh Gem; and very soon; I hope.

Location

From the Owner

We relish the chance to be able to get away to the Lleyn peninsula and in particular it's wonderful beaches. The cottage is easy to get to, yet in a rural area by the sea.

Activity and Interests

Special interest holidays:

The cottage is particularly well located for sailing at the Pwllheli Marina.

Coast/Beach:

There is a footpath from the village to the sandy beach at Abererch Sands (1/2 a mile). The peninsula has many other lovely blue flag beaches to boast of: Abersoch, Aberdaron, Nefyn and our own favourite, Whistling Sands. There are also a few small 'secret' beaches to be discovered!

The towns of Porthmadog, Criccieth, Pwllheli and Abersoch are all very close and laid out along the Lleyn coastal path.

Travel:

Abererch station 1/2 a mile.

Pwllheli station 1 1/2 miles.

Liverpool and Manchester airports about 2 hours.

Car recommended.

Distances:

Pwllheli is only a mile, Abersoch 7 miles, Criccieth 5 miles, and the Snowdonia National Park only about 10 miles away.

Further Details:

There are endless activities within a very few miles. Historic castles and little shops in the local market towns, cinema and indoor pool and sports in Pwllheli, the unofficial capital of the Lleyn peninsula. Glasfryn park has go-karting, quad-biking, archery, wake-boarding and ten-pin bowling, and of course there are the whole plethora of sailing activities at Pwllheli and Abersoch.
