About this property

Historic Canarian House, Private Heated Pool, BBQ, WIFI + Stunning Ocean Views

Commanding dramatic views down the valley of volcanoes to the sea and La Gomera, this historic property is perched above the hurly burly of Los Cristianos and Playa de las Americas (15 mins drive) and near the picturesque villages of Arona (3 minutes) and Vilaflor (10 minutes drive). Vilaflor is the gateway to dramatic Las Cañadas and Teide National Park.
Once a large, imposing nobles' strong-house, this is a rare Canarian architectural jewel in the south of the island. Part of this property has been renovated into a striking 4-bed home with beautiful old wooden floors and beams to a high standard so you can enjoy all modern amenities to hand.
We have acquired another wing of the house which we have spent 18 months painstakingly renovating in our quest to preserve this, the oldest inhabited house in the south of Tenerife that dates back to the earliest Spanish settlers.
This unique property is suitable for those who enjoy the dramatic, serene nature of the location. It is the perfect place to get away from it all, yet be close to all the big attractions of south Tenerife.
It has good free WIFI and a range of English TV channels.
It is not suitable for those wanting guaranteed hot sun year round (Nov-March can be cooler up here, although lots of hot, sunny days too - pot luck in winter!) or lots of loud bars and restaurants on the doorstep.
The pool is treated with salt, not chlorine, which is much kinder to the skin (especially for children) and leaves no nasty residual smell. It is roughly 9mx5m, and almost 2m deep, and the pool is maintained twice-weekly by our team.
Although the pool is heated, it gets to around 22 degrees in winter, so if you want a guaranteed hot pool in winter months, you may prefer a house right by the coast.
This is a historic property in Canarian style, with thick stone walls and wooden floors. It is at 800m altitude, hence the spectacular views and peace and quiet. Please note we we only hire to mature adult or family groups.
We run a company called GeoTenerife (www.geotenerife.com) and can organise intimate volcanic, geological, birding or astronomy tours for your family with local, bilingual guides while you stay at the house if you'd like something more than a bucket and spade holiday. It's a little known fact to most tourists that Tenerife is a hot spot of biodiversity - there is so much amazing nature and dramatic scenery to see here if you venture away from the bars and beaches.
GeoTenerife is ABTA registered, so your booking at the house or for a tour is fully protected.
The house's dramatic pool area and views were recently used as a location for Finisterre's surf wear catalogue. See: http://www.finisterre.com/lookbook/summer/
Please note there is a resident cat at the property called "Angelita", for whom we leave food in the cupboard. She is very tame and sweet! However, she can live elsewhere if you prefer not to have her live in during your stay.

Beautiful villa with breath taking views
This was the best villa we have ever rented! The house was beautifully furnished with gorgeous antiques. The outdoor area was great for cooking and the pool was perfect. A great location with easy access to most tourist attractions. A great relaxing holiday for all of us.

Stunning mountain villa with gorgeous views
We received a warm welcome and were shown around the property (with social distancing and masks). The host was extremely helpful and even showed us the way to the nearest supermarket. The villa itself was even more lovely that the photos, it feels larger than the photos display. There is real character to the rooms with unique furnishings. There is a day bed in the living room that makes one feel like a queen to lie on. All the beds were very comfortable. The villa was cleaned to an acceptable standard during Covid times. The pool area is gorgeous and the view changes all the time. We had BBQ’s most nights. There were lovely blankets and we kept warm with the wood fire from the BBQ at night. It was good binki weather in the daytime. There is a town about 8 mins drive down the hill. I managed to get a lovely haircut there and there is a butcher and small shops. It takes about 20 mins to drive to Playa de las Americas. All in all a very restful holiday if you want to be a bit away from the crowds.

Unique historic house
We spent a lovely week at this beautiful historic house which has been painstakingly and lovingly restored and contains many quirky antiques and items of furniture but also has an excellent more modern kitchen and bathrooms and a large wood burner well stocked for the sometimes slightly chilly winter nights . As the owner points out, this is not a typical beach holiday house but it offers absolute tranquility, amazing views, a high level of comfort and heaps of character and history. Set up in the hills above Los Christianos the drive up (and down) from the house does involve some quite steep, windy roads but the views are totally worth it! The little touches of some basic provisions (including wine!) on arrival were most welcome, as places to shop if arriving late are limited outside of the large towns. We spent time exploring the local area and sourcing fresh fish and produce for our evening meals, returning for a swim and a game of pool or table tennis. I would highly recommend taking a trip out with the owner's local volcanologist/guide. We had an amazing time hiking locally with him and he was so informative about both the past history and geology and the present day environmental issues etc facing the island, a trip not to be missed. He also recommended a visit to the town of Vilaflor which sits above the house which is really beautiful with 2 amazing churches and some authentic restaurants etc. We also discovered a really friendly tennis club 'La Florida' (just east of Camella) who were so welcoming and we played there each day (8€/hour). All in all a very comfortable, relaxing time spent in a special house with great facilities, amazing views - and the optional house cat 'Angelita' has almost as much character as the house! I would highly recommend this property if you are looking for something truly unique in South Tenerife.

Why they chose this property

This spectacular property is run for us by a local bilingual property manager, a housekeeper and a maintenance man. They are all on hand to ensure any issues that may arise are resolved quickly and efficiently. Our priority is to ensure your holiday runs smoothly! We are selective about who we let the house - no stag weekends, sorry! That's why we do not charge any hidden extras either - the price is as quoted, including pool heat, aircon, WIFI, UK TV channels and weekly cleans and linen changes for longer lets.

What makes this property unique

If you want loud bars and nightclubs on your doorstep, this is not for you. Our guests value the extraordinary location and views, the high quality accommodation and historic architecture. They also know we can help them put together a great programme of exclusive excursions and tours with our GeoTenerife bilingual experts picking them up from the front door. Our local knowledge means we can recommend great spots little known to the average tourist, to help you appreciate the real Tenerife we love so dearly - a volcanic island with more geological variety than Hawaii, a biodiversity hotspot with more endemic species than Europe, and a twitcher's paradise. Great beaches, restaurants and attractions? Of course! But so much more too.
