Overview

About the property

Unique villa in Tenerife, Near Pretty Town Of Arona, 15 Min Drive To Golf Courses, beaches, Los Cristianos/Las Americas

Commanding dramatic views down the valley of volcanoes to the sea and La Gomera, this historic property is perched above the hurly burly of Los Cristianos and Playa de las Americas (15 mins drive) and near the picturesque villages of Arona (3 minutes) and Vilaflor (10 minutes drive). Vilaflor is the gateway to dramatic Las Cañadas and Teide National Park.

Once a large, imposing nobles' strong-house, this is a rare Canarian architectural jewel in the south of the island. Part of this property has been renovated into a striking 4-bed home with beautiful old wooden floors and beams to a high standard so you can enjoy all modern amenities to hand.

We have acquired another portion of the house which we hope to renovate in future to further protect this, the oldest house in the south of Tenerife dating back to the earliest Spanish settlers.

This unique property is suitable for those who enjoy the dramatic, serene nature of the location. It is the perfect place to get away from it all, yet be close to all the big attractions of south Tenerife.

It has good WIFI and all the main UK TV channels, including BBC.

It is not suitable for those wanting guaranteed hot sun year round (Nov-March can be cooler up here, although lots of hot, sunny days too - pot luck in winter!) or lots of loud bars and restaurants on the doorstep.

The pool is treated with salt, not chlorine, which is much kinder to the skin (especially for children) and leaves no nasty residual smell. It is roughly 8mx5m, and almost 2m deep, and the pool is maintained twice-weekly by our team.

Although the pool is heated, it gets to around 22 degrees in winter, so if you want a guaranteed hot pool in winter months, you may prefer a house right by the coast.

This is a historic property in Canarian style, with thick stone walls and wooden floors. It is at 800m altitude, hence the spectacular views and peace and quiet. Please note we we only hire to mature adult or family groups.

We run a company called GeoTenerife (www.geotenerife.com) and can organise intimate volcanic, geological, birding or astronomy tours for your family with local, bilingual guides while you stay at the house if you'd like something more than a bucket and spade holiday. It's a little known fact to most tourists that Tenerife is a hot spot of biodiversity - there is so much amazing nature and dramatic scenery to see here if you want to venture away from the bars and beaches.

GeoTenerife is ABTA registered, so your booking at the house or for a tour is fully protected.

The house's dramatic pool area and views were recently used as a location for Finisterre's Summer 2016 surf wear catalogue. See: http://www.finisterre.com/lookbook/summer/

Please note there is a resident cat at the property called "Angelita", for whom we leave food in the cupboard. She is very tame and sweet! However, she can live out and is an excellent mouse hunter if you prefer not to have her live in during your stay.

Why Sharon chose South Tenerife

This spectacular property is run for us by a local bilingual property manager, a housekeeper and a maintenance man. They are all on hand to ensure any issues that may arise are resolved quickly and efficiently. Our priority is to ensure your holiday runs smoothly! We are selective about who we let the house - no stag weekends, sorry! That's why we do not charge any hidden extras either - the price is as quoted, including pool heat, aircon, WIFI, UK TV channels and weekly cleans and linen changes for longer lets.

What makes this house unique

If you want loud bars and nightclubs on your doorstep, this is not for you. Our guests value the extraordinary location and views, the high quality accommodation and historic architecture. They also know we can help them put together a great programme of exclusive excursions and tours with our GeoTenerife bilingual experts picking them up from the front door. Our local knowledge means we can recommend great spots little known to the average tourist, to help you appreciate the real Tenerife we love so dearly - a volcanic island with more geological variety than Hawaii, a biodiversity hotspot with more endemic species than Europe, and a twitcher's paradise. Great beaches, restaurants and attractions? Of course! But so much more too.

Notes:
Notes on accommodation: There are a total of two pull-out beds available and a travel cot for infants. All bedrooms have air-conditioning units that also work as heating fans on cooler winter nights, if required. GARDEN The garden has been lovingly designed, with an infinity-pool in brown to minimise environmental impact, a large barbecue area built from railway sleepers and wooden roof with a large round table that seats 16 and a large, central lazy Susan. There's also a cast iron wood burning oven to cook delicious home made pizzas and roasts. An array of outdoor kitchen cabinets house glasses, cutlery, crockery and accessories and a fridge/freezer and sink. The garden is fenced off from the house, but care must be taken by the pool as it has a drop to the terrace below, so parents must keep a watchful eye on young children. A separate gazebo with removable ceiling/walls provides additional protected seating. There is a pool table, and a separate stone-clad shower room with hot water and a wc. The house also has a typical Canarian closed "patio" or courtyard, with outdoor sofa and table under an open-sided roof, shaded by our beloved olive tree, with a water fountain and ping pong table. Utility Room: Oversize washing machine, oversize tumble dryer, sink and large chest freezer. 200-litre water tank connected to solar panel (with electric back-up), so plenty of hot water. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels, beach towels and linen are included, as is a weekly clean and linen change. Other: The old chapel, with a hand carved, antique wooden ceiling lovingly restored. Large flat screen tv, dvd player with a huge collection of movies, 2 sofas and selection of board games.

Great holiday, fantastic villa

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from such an enjoyable holiday in this amazing villa - the setting, the view and the décor are all excellent.

The villa is an interesting mix of historic and modern, and there is so much to do even around the villa to keep the children (both young and old) occupied, with table tennis, a pool table and the lovely swimming pool, which really is every bit as enticing as in the photos. BBQ’s and toasting marshmallows round the pool area were great, and we could never get tired of eating meals at the outside table with views like that.

Also, we enjoyed a particularly interesting day out with a local expert volcanologist, who showed us so much more of the island than we would ever have appreciated for ourselves, with three distinct areas being the South, the North and the volcano, and this was well worth the cost. The descent from Masca is another one not to be missed for any active families.

All in all, the holiday couldn’t have been better.

Beautiful, authentic finca with spectacular views!

  • 5 of 5

We had such a wonderful holiday and a large part of that was due to the fantastic villa we stayed in. The villa itself has been lovingly restored and beautifully curated, it has all the mod cons you would want but is full of antiques with lovely wood floors, beams etc, really beautiful.

The view is out of this world, you really feel "on top of the world". The pool is kept at a nice temperature and the BBQ and seating area has everything you could ever want.

We had our 15 month old and the pool area is a bit hazardous, we could tell from the pictures but decided to book it anyway and we're glad we did. We just had to run around after him.

The evenings here are just as good as the day, it was lovely to return to Casa Altavista after a day at the beach and sit in front of the fire with a glass of wine and some cheese and ham.

Would thoroughly recommend the villa and we can't wait to go back.

We will be back next year!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this lovely house in November, and were delighted with its amazing location and historic features. It was such a relaxing spot to get away from the hurley burley of the coast, yet still easy to get to all the key tourist spots. We particularly enjoyed the exclusive day tour organised by GeoTenerife for our family, and learning all about the volcanic origins of the island. Thank you for such a great, relaxing break!

Outstanding - what a view!

  • 5 of 5

The property is outstanding and is as advertised. It is high up and so the road is steep out of Arona. Beautiful house, pool, barbecue area, wood stove and ... that view.... what's not to like...

Great Views - Fantastic House

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for the half term week - fantastic house with an interesting history and great views. As the weather was mixed, especially early in the week, we really appreciated the log burner. As the origins of the house date from the 16 century, the wind rattled the windows and even lifted the rug during a gale the morning after we arrived, but this just added to the character. The house has been very sympathetically restored and was very comfortable and the sea water pool refreshing and warm enough, even in February. Great base for sightseeing in the area, although some steep slopes to climb from the main road. The roads up to the volcano have spectacular views. All in all a fantastic spot and a very enjoyable holiday.

Totally deceiving cleverly staged photos .

  • 1 of 5

It took us two hours of searching for this villa due to the fact that owner had failed to put numbers and name of villa back onto unlit wall ( previous clients also mentioned this 1 year ago !) .

We actually drove off as villa looked derelict ..

on entering villa we then had to search for a light as every room was in total blackness .

Villa so very cold, and uninviting .

As we were high up in the mountain we expected it to be cooler but this house was freezing ., not helped by a shut down log burner and empty log basket

We then decided to check the " so called award winning heated swimming pool and BBQ area .

What a complete let down.. area tired , and so run down . Pool ...FREEZING .

We then placed a call to owner , she said she thought we were arriving in the day hence no lights . She would get excellent English people to come early morning with logs , and the pool should warm up over night .

She offered no explanation as to why if she knew we had made this booking months in advance that the pool was not heated well in advance .

Cold we retired to bed seeking extra blankets for warmth . Photos also don't show that two bedrooms are downstairs , in almost like a dungeon setting ..

Late the next morning two non speaking english elderly housekeepers arrived with a wheelbarrow with logs in and in the end we had to speak to there're barely English speaking daughter via phone to communicate . In the light of day and further disappointment of the whole villa we decided to fly home .

Thankfully we managed to get flights that day .

These people who own this villa have totally spoilt a long awaited holiday and we then had to contend with a xmas at home that we were ill prepared for and then have the expense of creating a somewhat flat xmas period ..

we have been reimbursed to a very small level and are taking steps to recover further costs we originally spent . Owners need to visit property to do a major overall but if I'm honest I think it's a case of they have got away with it ... until now .. Absolute mis sold property . Don't not be deceived by clever photos .

Especially the pool which was cold , dirty and severely run down .... A hugely dissapointed family ....

Owner's Response: We are sorry you did not find the property to your liking. We respectfully suggest, as we do explain in our advertisement, that prospective guests are aware that this is a historic villa in a rural location at altitude, not a modern villa. This was a Christmas booking and unfortunately, as we also point out in the advertisement, the weather can be unreliable, especially in winter. You arrived for your holiday on 22nd December, and after your complaint, we refunded immediately the cost of your holiday in full (on 23rd December), together with an additional £500 compensation to cover the costs of your flights back to the UK so that you could be home in time for Christmas. This was refunded before your review was entered on this page, and so it is wholly untrue to say that you had only been reimbursed to a very small level and were taking steps to recover further costs that you originally spent. We would remind clients that this is an historic property, suitable for those who appreciate the dramatic landscape and particular nature of an old Canarian house. It is not suitable for those seeking guaranteed hot weather in winter, although it is only a 15 minute drive to the coast and guaranteed sunshine. Unfortunately on the day you arrived, it did rain and we do understand your disappointment but rest assured we work very hard with our full time maintenance and housekeeping team (who are a couple in their early 50s and a 20 year old cleaner) to provide a wonderful holiday for your family. Our property manager is bilingual and lives on the island. Unfortunately, he was also on holiday for the Christmas week, otherwise he would have been on hand to deal with your concerns in person. The pool is not bright blue because we have deliberately designed it in brown, to fit in with its volcanic surroundings. The salt water is maintained twice weekly a high standard and is far kinder to skin, particularly children’s, than chlorine. We do understand this is unusual, but the whole property has been sympathetically restored to fit in with its rural surroundings.
