Luxurious historic House With Private Heated Pool, BBQ + 180 Degree Sea View

Updated: 28-Nov-2016
Unique villa in Tenerife, Near Pretty Town Of Arona, 15 Min Drive To Golf Courses, beaches, Los Cristianos/Las Americas

Commanding dramatic views down the valley of volcanoes to the sea and La Gomera, this extraordinary house is perched above the hurly burly of Los Cristianos and Playa de las Americas (15 mins drive) and near the picturesque villages of Arona (3 minutes) and Vilaflor (10 minutes drive). Vilaflor is the gateway to dramatic Las Cañadas and Teide National Park.

Once a large, imposing nobles' strong-house, this is a rare architectural jewel in the south of the island, with beautiful old wooden floors and beams, yet renovated to a high standard so you can enjoy all modern amenities to hand.

This unique, historic property is suitable for those who enjoy the dramatic, serene nature of the location. It is the perfect place to get away from it all, yet be close to all the big attractions of south Tenerife. It has good WIFI and all the main UK TV channels, including BBC.

It is not suitable for those wanting guaranteed hot sun year round (Nov-March can be cooler up here, although lots of hot, sunny days too - pot luck in winter!) or lots of loud bars and restaurants on the doorstep.

The pool is treated with salt, not chlorine, which is much kinder to the skin (especially for children) and leaves no nasty residual smell.

Although the pool is heated, it gets to around 24 degrees in winter if nights are cooler, so if you want a guaranteed hot pool in winter months, you may prefer a house right by the coast.

Due to the extraordinary nature of the house, we only hire to mature adult or family groups.

We run a company called GeoTenerife (www.geotenerife.com) and can organise intimate volcanic, geological, birding or astronomy tours for your family with local, bilingual guides while you stay at the house if you'd like something more than a bucket and spade holiday. It's a little known fact to most tourists that Tenerife is a hot spot of biodiversity - there is so much amazing nature and dramatic scenery to see here if you want to venture away from the bars and beaches.

The house's dramatic pool area and views was recently used as a location for Finisterre's Summer 2016 surf wear catalogue. See: http://www.finisterre.com/lookbook/summer/

We were also asked by the producers of "Take me Out" if they could use it as "Casa Fernandos" for the 2015/16 season, but we turned them down.

Best holiday home - highly recommended

  • 5 of 5

Immaculate and tasteful - Tenerife meets Elle Deco style. Situated high on a hill overlooking Los Cristianos and the sea beyond. Our first time to Tenerife - wary of nasty boozy resort reputation - but this is a world away. Beautiful views from the pool and garden with a house that fits every need. Perfectly quiet, private and contained. Local town of Arona has everything you need.

We had a fantastic relaxing family holiday. Whale watching and a trip around the island with a Volcanologist to learn about the dramatic geology. It was a perfect holiday - thank you Sharon and David too.

From the Owner

This spectacular property is run for us by a local bilingual property manager, a housekeeper and a maintenance man. They are all on hand to ensure any issues that may arise are resolved quickly and efficiently. Our priority is to ensure your holiday runs smoothly! We are selective about who we let the house to, which is why we do not take credit card payments or allow automatic online bookings. We like to know a little about our prospective guests first. No stag weekends, sorry! That's why we do not charge any hidden extras either - the price is as quoted, including pool heat, aircon, WIFI and weekly cleans and linen changes for longer lets.

The lovely beaches of south Tenerife are within a 15 minute drive down the mountain. The award-winning long sandy beach of Las Vistas in Los Cristianos has a public car park so it is easy to park up and spend the day there. There's scuba diving, sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, water skiing and banana rides on offer in the area. The famous windsurfing beach at El Medano, with kite surfing and surfing classes, is a 20-minute drive. There's many golf courses within 20 minutes, from easy Los Palos or Playa de las Américas to championship standard Adeje or Golf del Sur and Amarilla Golf. The stunning course at 5 star Abama is a bit further, a 25 minute drive.

The house is an 18-20 minute drive from the Tenerife South (Reina Sofia) airport, and a car is essential.

The house is next to the pretty town of Arona with its delicious bakery (open 7 days a week), historic church, chemist, medical centre, petrol station, supermarkets and bars. Ten minutes up the mountain is Vilafor, with its award-winning local restaurants, pretty flowers and the doorway to the walking, hiking and biking areas in Las Cañadas and the Teide National Park.

Further Details:

The house is ideally located to be close to the big tourist attractions in the area (golf courses, beaches, two water parks, Jungle Park) and equally close to the rural delights Tenerife has to offer, with local restaurants, beautiful volcanic landscapes to walk through and climb and dramatic vistas to drink in. For those that like to walk, the house is near three lovely hiking routes, Roque Imoque, Roque del Conde and Roque de Jama. We have prepared a comprehensive house "guidebook" to let you in on all our local secrets of where to visit, walk, wine, dine and shop.

From the Owner

If you want loud bars and nightclubs on your doorstep, this is not for you. Our guests value the extraordinary location and views, the high quality accommodation and historic architecture. They also know we can help them put together a great programme of exclusive excursions and tours with our GeoTenerife bilingual experts picking them up from the front door. Our local knowledge means we can recommend great spots little known to the average tourist, to help you appreciate the real Tenerife we love so dearly - a volcanic island with more geological variety than Hawaii, a biodiversity hotspot with more endemic species than Europe, and a twitcher's paradise. Great beaches, restaurants and attractions? Of course! But so much more too.

  • Notes on accommodation: There are a total of two pull-out beds available and a travel cot for infants. All bedrooms have air-conditioning units that also work as heating fans on cooler winter nights, if required. GARDEN The garden has been lovingly designed, with an infinity-pool in brown to minimise environmental impact, a large barbecue area built from railway sleepers and wooden roof with a large round table that seats 16 and a large, central lazy Susan. There's also a cast iron wood burning oven to cook delicious home made pizzas and roasts. An array of outdoor kitchen cabinets house glasses, cutlery, crockery and accessories and a fridge/freezer and sink. The garden is fenced off from the house, but care must be taken by the pool as it has a drop to the terrace below, so parents must keep a watchful eye on young children. A separate gazebo with removable ceiling/walls provides additional protected seating. There is a pool table, and a separate stone-clad shower room with hot water and a wc. The house also has a typical Canarian closed "patio" or courtyard, with outdoor sofa and table under an open-sided roof, shaded by our beloved olive tree, with a water fountain and ping pong table. Utility Room: Oversize washing machine, oversize tumble dryer, sink and large chest freezer. 200-litre water tank connected to solar panel (with electric back-up), so plenty of hot water. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels, beach towels and linen are included, as is a weekly clean and linen change. Other: The old chapel, with a hand carved, antique wooden ceiling lovingly restored. Large flat screen tv, dvd player with a huge collection of movies, 2 sofas and selection of board games.
