The building and apartment were renovates keeping all the traditional style: the old wood floor, Portuguese XVIII century tiles, old ceilings, old doors, etc. The apartment very charming, is 100 sq. metres and includes a wonderful terrace.
We stayed in March and had an okay time but there some little changes that could be made that would make a big improvement and also some other problems to do with noise. Like many apartments in traditional parts of Lisbon, it is accessed via a steep and narrow staircase so won't be suitable for everyone.
The apartment above was very noisy because there were wooden floorboard so we could hear them walking about all the time. However, I do not know who occupies the apartment above so if it was different people it might not always be that noisy. Also, every night at 11.15pm there was a refuse/recycling collection which was very noisy but it only lasted for about 5 minutes.
The apartment has changed a little bit since some of the photographs on this website. For example, the terrace is nice but was not in the same condition as it appears on the photo eg there were some weeds, the furniture was a bit broken.
There is one small sofa in the kitchen area and one larger sofa in the lounge seating about 3 people but if there were more than 3 people staying then there would not be soft seating in the same room for everyone.
The good things about the apartment are its size and layout. Both bedrooms are a good size. It has a lounge and a separate kitchen and you could easily have 4 people adults in the apartment, and even with 6 it would be okay.
The location of the apartment was good for us as we like to try to walk to as many places as possible. You can walk to the main square by the river within about 20 minutes and some of the other main squares within about 15 minutes. The train station to Sintra, Rosssio, is about 15 minutes walk. There are 2 metro stations within about 10-15 minutes walk and the stop for the number 28 tram is about 2 minutes from the apartment. The Bairro Alto area with lots of bars and restaurants is about 10 minutes walk away.
There were not many maps or leaflets in the apartment. However, a good thing was that the family who look after the apartment on behalf of the owner have a small cafe a few seconds from the apartment so they were always available for help and we arranged for them to collect us from the airport and they looked after our luggage on our final day.
We stayed at this apartment for a week in September and would definitely recommend it.
It is very central and we combined the city attractions and beach.... which could be reached very easily by train. Something to bear in mind is that the main Cais do Sodre train Station gets very busy and you could quite easily queue for a ticket for over 40 minutes. However we walked from the apartment to the next station (about 10 minutes) and enjoyed no queues!
The apartment was very spacious and you immediately felt at home with its quirky charm and friendly neighbourhood.
The owner wasn’t there when we arrived but she had already arranged for us to pick up the key from the Café/small shop 2 doors away. David and his parents were extremely helpful and friendly… and made us feel so welcome.
We look forward to returning to Lisbon again and would definitely look to return to this apartment.
Stopped for 3 nights with another couple. Location within the Barrio Alta easy to get around Lisbon and handy for metro and railway station if you want to visit Cacais and Sintra. Be warned if you have difficulty with steep climbs both Lisbon and the apartment which you entered via a very steep staircase. So maybe not appropriate for families with toddlers and difficult mobility. However the apartment was clean, had all the facilities required. The managers Mr Victor and his wife were extremely helpful and allowed us to leave our luggage with them on the last day as were not flying out till the evening. I would certainly use this apartment again and return to Lisbon a friendly and welcoming city.
Our family of 2 adults and 2 teenagers stayed in the appartment for a few days and are quite pleased with the choice. There is plenty of space- two bedrooms, dining room+ kitchen and TV room. Its furnished and equipped well yet not at a price of loosing charm or authenticity. A big plus is that apartment stays cool notwithstanding a regular sunshine in July!
In terms of location the apparment is located in Santa Catarina, which is on tourist itineraries yet is a real Lisbon neighbourhood and is quite atmospheric. Its within 10-15 mins from more famous Alto Bara and Chiado quarters. The Praca Nacional (downtown Lisbon) is 20-30 min walk or you can pay 5 Euro (!!!) for a taxi and be there in 10..
In terms of things to keep in mind- stairs into the appartment are quiet steep and it does get rather lively on the street in the evening till late night with sounds of neighbourhood (kids playing and adults socializing). None of this was an issue for us, but if its important for you, worth keeping this in mind.
I stayed at this apartment for a week from June 1st 2013 and i would highly recommend this apartment to anyone looking for a very central, clean and quirky apartment for a stay in Lisbon.
Although the owner was not in Lisbon during my stay, she did forward me contact details of where I could pick up the keys to the apartment which was a cafe 3 doors down from the apartment. The caretakers where i got the keys were very professional and extremely helpful advising me where to go for sightseeing / restaurants & bars etc. On the particular street whee the apartment was located a street party was organised for the 12th day of each month during the summer period and they asked me to join them for the party which was very useful as I got more tips on where to go / see from others at the street party.
The apartment itself was very well laid out and had all the requirements neede to make the holiday perfect. The rooms were spacious and were very well maintained. The patio area was a welcom sight after a hard days sightseeing where you could sit and have a glass of wine before heading off for an evening meal.
If you did not fance going out for an evening meal then the kitchen was well equipped such that you could prepare a meal there. Supermarkets were very near and stocked everthing you would require.
All in all this is an amazing apartment and was very central to all Lisbon had to offer. I will definitely return to this apartment.
appartement grand et joliment décoré. Très bien située central pour se ballader dans le vieux lisbonne. Petite terrasse avec soleil. Très satisfaite, je recommande.
