Arrived at Wintons on Saturday 28th May and immediately impressed by the outside. Plenty of parking space and beautifully kept gardens. Wintons is detached from the main house and gives you a nice sense of seclusion yet the owners are just a few yards away. Sarah met us shortly after arrival and provided us with all the details of Wintons. This was the last time we saw her during the week however she stressed that any problems or queries to contact her by phone, email or pop to the main house. The property is well set out providing the perfect retreat for our family of 4 adults and 2 children. The beds are very comfortable and the bath and shower always had plenty of hot water. There is an extensive range of cooking utensils in fact everything you could possibly need to cook your breakfast or a full roast. The living area had a lovely gas wood burner which we did need on a couple of evenings and provided us with all the warmth we required plus the nice effect of the wood burner without any mess. We had a couple of BBQs on the enclosed patio area which is a lovely sun trap. The boys and some of the dults spent quite a bit of time on the tennis court.Sarah did state that the broadband which connected automatically was rather slow but we had no problems at all during the week with both of the grandchildren using their tablets to watch internet with no buffering. As stated by other reviews Jempsons supermarket just at the end of the lane provides everything you could wish for including some of the cheapest petrol for miles another bonus if you wish to fill up prior to leaving for home. We even had a small problem with an exhaust bracket on one of our cars which was rectified by the small garage workshop just opposite the supermarket a very helpful and efficient gentleman. During our stay we visited Hastings several times which all the family enjoyed and also a day trip to Eastbourne and a trip to Drusillas Park which is well worth the visit. A word of warning however is too leave for the park early as the queues for the gate can be quite long and also inside for the more popular attractions. The zoo section is very good and this is definitely an all day attraction(arrived at 12.00 departed at 6.00).

All in all a perfect holiday location in very comfortable accommodation. Cant think of anything we would want to change.Would have no hesitation in recommending this property, ideal for families. Thank you Sarah

Beautiul property in a wonderful location

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely week's break at Wilton's Cottage, which is an extremely well appointed holiday home in a fabulous location. The house has everything you'd need - excellently equipped kitchen, two bathrooms with great hot water, nice TV and generous supply of DVDs and books, and good solid walls so three generations of our family could co-exist without intruding on each other! It's beautifully finished and the location is breathtaking - views over rolling countryside and small rabbits everywhere you look (at least there were at Whitsun). The local superstore (an absolute gem of a firm called Jempsons) is a short and very nice walk down the lane from the cottage and it has everything you could want. The village pub is not much further away; it's not amazing but it's friendly. And as a base for touring the rich literary and artistic heritage of East Sussex, the cottage's location can't be faulted. We didn't even realise it was associated with Alice Liddel (of Alice in Wonderland fame) until the day we left. Sarah is a perfect host and we wouldn't hesitate to return.

Owner's Response: So pleased to read such a positive review- thank you. The pub seems to change ownership quite frequently, but I was pleased to hear that they were friendly. There is also a hotel and restaurant the same distance away, which serves bar snacks, A La Carte and Sunday Roast. I am also a big fan of Jempsons Supermarket at the end of the lane. They strive to stock locally grown produce where possible, and there's also a cafe in store which serves Full English breakfast all day.

Winton's Cottage

  • 5 of 5

It was a challenge to book a suitable holiday for my 94 year old mother and 14 year old son, along with other family members wanting to drop in from London. I needed a property with at least one downstairs bedroom and bathroom. I needed availability of public transport to London and activities to suit young and old. Winton's cottage was perfect for us.

The listing description was accurate, the property was clean and well maintained. We were provided with beautiful fluffy towels, constant hot running water, internet access, BBQ and a very superior supermarket, Jempsons, only a short walk away. There was a tennis court, racquets and balls provided and a lovely garden. We were within easy reach of Rye with fast connection via Ashford to central London.

Sarah was very welcoming and provided us with invaluable information. She told us about a local riding school, Grove Farm, Iden, which was a 10 minute drive away and was excellent. She advised about the best spot to access the beach, away from the crowds with free and available parking and even lent us a beach umbrella.

We visited Winchelsea and Rye, Bodiam castle, Great Dixter and Sissinghurst and Biddenden vinyards. 3 rides, 3 swims in the sea and some local walks. There was lots more to do, but time ran out.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your positive review. Good to hear that the cottage worked well for you and that you found plenty of fun things to do. I'm very happy to share my local knowledge as I understand what a difference it can make when visiting an area for the first time. Great to hear that the horse riding at nearby Iden was a success.

A Good Base

  • 4 of 5

There were 6 in our group, us grandparents, who slept upstairs and well separated, the parents downstairs with a double bed room and the grandchildren, 4 and 7, in the third bedroom in bunks.

We liked it, very quiet, comfortable, in the country and yet not far from the excellent local supermarket Jempsons and several pubs in Peasmarsh, with many more about in the country. Lots of space outside for the children to run about in and a tennis court, though we only used it for a kick about.

Lots to see localy, Rye, Bodiham Castle, Camber Sands, the Kent & E Sussex Railway was a hit with all of us, and the Romney light railway.

Could have done with wi fi.

From the Owner

Wintons is located on a quiet country lane in a designated 'area of outstanding natural beauty'. Whilst being surrounded by farmland and glorious walks, it is also conveniently located for the supermarket and local pubs (10 minute walk). The cottage has plenty of private parking, a tennis court and pretty sun trap patio to the rear. There is also an outside table and chairs at the front if you wish to catch the early morning sun whilst listening to the incredible birdsong.
