About Mrs Anne Forder

My name is Anne, I have successfully let our apartment for several years. We fell in love with Dartmouth way back in the 1980's! As a family with young children we enjoyed so many wonderful holidays together. Our children are now adults - but we still find that Dartmouth is a favoured destination. We love the little shops, pubs and restaurants. I keep myself busy being a wife, mother, grandmother, School Governor, a Trustee for a Family Support Centre, volunteering in a local secondary school as a Counsellor/Mentor to young people and delivering Relationship and Sex Education lessons. (Emphasis on the relationships)! I love to travel - but you will always find me back in Dartmouth for several weeks in the year. Why not try it yourself - you won't be disappointed.

Mrs Anne Forder purchased this apartment in 2004

Why Mrs Anne Forder chose South Hams

Above Bayards, is a spacious apartment affording comfortable accommodation for a party of five or just the two of you. The magnificent windows offer a commanding view over the River Dart and out to sea. Overlooking historic Bayards Cove, visitors have been captivated by life on the River Dart, either in the daytime or evening - there is always something to watch and there is something very calming about watching the ebb and flow of the river.

The newly fitted bathrooms with wonderful power showers with offer a touch of luxury. There is a small outside Terrace which catches the sunshine for an hour or so around 11.00am - 12.00pm, just nice to be away from all the activity.

Above Bayards, is just a few minutes walk into the heart of town and conversely just those few minutes provide quietness in the evening. It's location also offers an excellent base for keen walkers, details of local walks can be obtained at the Tourist Information Office.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Above Bayards is the perfect holiday accommodation. This was our second stay in the apartment and it was even better than last year. The already fabulous views were enhanced by the new folding windows - other improvements had been made too, including a very handy dishwasher. There is plenty of room to move about in the apartment and the two bathrooms make it perfect for families. We love it so much we have booked it again for next summer. We would have no hesitation to recommending it to family and friends or indeed anyone who wishes to explore Dartmouth.

Had a lovely week in Dartmouth - our 10th visit. Great apartment with stunning views over to Kingswear - great to just sit and relax. The apartment is very spacious and has everything you will need and the showers are amazing!

Apartment is well located and just a stroll into the centre/harbour. We had 2 cars with us during our stay and used the car park pass for one and put the other near to the castle - nice 20 min stroll back. Always had room to park directly outside thou for the hour when unloading.

During our visit we had a very interesting trip around the Royal Naval College followed by afternoon tea in the Royal Castle. We loved the food at the Boatfloat and our day out on the boat was fantastic with lovely company.

Overall a great week in a lovely apartment - dont hesitate to book as everything you need is here 😘?

Owner's Response: Oh thank you both so much for a great review! Yes, you are right. We can't always offer a trip up the river on Lovejoy, but, if we lived in Dartmouth we would love to do so. Even so importantly, is that you were happy with the accommodation for your family. We look forward to being able to meet you all again. Kind Regards Anne

This apartment is made fabulous by it's amazing views. Watch the world go by after a busy day.

  • 4 of 5

A comfortable well laid out apartment, with everything you need to make it a home from home. A central location, cafes, bars, shops, all within walking distance, in fact many things in Dartmouth you can get to on foot. There is always something going on in Dartmouth, whatever your taste, whether you promenade along the river watching all manner of vessels coming and going, take the children crabbing or enjoy the bars and restaurants in the evening. If you fancy a walk but are not a hiker try the Diamond Jubilee Way, 3-4 miles, some steep hills but worth the climb. Dartmouth is vibrant and historical and you won't go wrong staying in this lovely apartment.

Almost got 5 stars but for me the bed was a little lumpy, sorry. Having said that, if you have any problems whilst here, the owner, Anne is more than happy to resolve them, just email.

A great week in a great apartment. What a view!

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a week in this apartment and enjoyed every moment of it. The weather helped which was full sun almost everyday. The apartment is situated within Dartmouth within a short easy walk to the main shopping streets and practically a flight of steps to the front at Bayards Cove. The property is spacious, modern and clean. The view is amazing. We sat there every morning and evening watching the river. We found a parking place right outside the building and there is stayed for the whole week. We used the various ferries to take us to Dittisham (Ditsum if local), Totnes, the castle and to Kingswear. We took the train to Greenway House and the bus services elsewhere. It was a relief to be able to ditch the car for a week. Crabbing on the jetty at Dittisham is incredible and if you have children then it's a must. The ferry takes you right there. The Ferry Boat Inn serves great food. Get there early to bag the window seat like we did. Another incredible view. The village of Dittisham spreads across this hillside with lanes that lead here and there and to a children's play area. Worth a wander. We caught the steam train to Churston and from there a free shuttle bus to Greenway House. Again, the National Trust have done an amazing job. The house and gardens are fabulous. The interior is untouched from Agatha Christie's day. We also went to another NT property at Coleton Fishacre which is nearby. The same goes for this estate, plus the food was great. We caught a small ferry to the castle as well spotting porpoises on the way. There is a nice café there and another amazing view. We didn't go in the castle so I can't comment on it but took the picturesque walk back to Dartmouth passing Warfleet Cove and some lucky homeowners overlooking the river. The town of Dartmouth is full of quality shops and restaurants. We only ate out in the evening once at the Ship Inn in Kingswear. If you want an old pub full of character then this is the place. I wouldn't recommend it for families/ children though. The menu was a bit limited and possibly overpriced but the food was nice. I've been to Dartmouth many times and stayed in various properties. Out of all of them this is the one I would (and will) come to again. I thought it was good value for money with the 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and large open plan kitchen/lounge but the above all this was the view. The photos do not do it justice. It really enhanced what was already an excellent week for us.

The best place I have ever stayed!

  • 5 of 5

We were given clear instructions and arrival was perfect. The apartment was stunning but also very comfortable, the beds were excellent. The view from the wonderful windows just kept us watching all the time. We were there at Christmas and the carol service took place with so many people but we could see it from above. Also if a visit is made in summer, a cute little patio at the rear would be nice. We all had our own space without being squashed together. Dartmouth is very friendly and I am hoping to return to Above Bayards soon.

Notes:

  • Notes on accommodation: Our investment in having magnificent Trifold windows fitted has proved so popular we are delighted with the result and are sure you will be too. This Autumn we have completed the creation of a third bedroom and an en suite bathroom off the main bedroom and the refitting of the main bedroom. The bathrooms are beautiful and I'm sure the third bedroom will prove to be just right for some of my guests. A Parking Permit is available for your use between 1st May and 31st October. Outside: Outside off the main bedroom is a small terrace garden where you will find a Chimnea - one of those little log burners - and a Barbecue - handy if you have children and want to eat in. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All bed linen included and made up for arrival of guests. Guests required to supply own towels and tea towels. Apartment is cleaned at the end of weekly stay. Can arrange for additional cleaning for longer bookings. Other: The apartment offers light, bright, airy and deceptively spacious accommodation.
