About Mrs Anne Forder

My name is Anne, I have successfully let our apartment for several years. We fell in love with Dartmouth way back in the 1980's! As a family with young children we enjoyed so many wonderful holidays together. Our children are now adults - but we still find that Dartmouth is a favoured destination. We love the little shops, pubs and restaurants. I keep myself busy being a wife, mother, grandmother, School Governor, a Trustee for a Family Support Centre, volunteering in a local secondary school as a Counsellor/Mentor to young people and delivering Relationship and Sex Education lessons. (Emphasis on the relationships)! I love to travel - but you will always find me back in Dartmouth for several weeks in the year. Why not try it yourself - you won't be disappointed.

Mrs Anne Forder purchased this apartment in 2004

Why Mrs Anne Forder chose South Hams

Above Bayards, is a spacious apartment affording comfortable accommodation for a party of five or just the two of you. The magnificent windows offer a commanding view over the River Dart and out to sea. Overlooking historic Bayards Cove, visitors have been captivated by life on the River Dart, either in the daytime or evening - there is always something to watch and there is something very calming about watching the ebb and flow of the river.

The newly fitted bathrooms with wonderful power showers with offer a touch of luxury. There is a small outside Terrace which catches the sunshine for an hour or so around 11.00am - 12.00pm, just nice to be away from all the activity.

Above Bayards, is just a few minutes walk into the heart of town and conversely just those few minutes provide quietness in the evening. It's location also offers an excellent base for keen walkers, details of local walks can be obtained at the Tourist Information Office.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Above Bayards is the perfect holiday accommodation. This was our second stay in the apartment and it was even better than last year. The already fabulous views were enhanced by the new folding windows - other improvements had been made too, including a very handy dishwasher. There is plenty of room to move about in the apartment and the two bathrooms make it perfect for families. We love it so much we have booked it again for next summer. We would have no hesitation to recommending it to family and friends or indeed anyone who wishes to explore Dartmouth.

Notes on accommodation: Our investment in having magnificent Trifold windows fitted has proved so popular we are delighted with the result and are sure you will be too. This Autumn we have completed the creation of a third bedroom and an en suite bathroom off the main bedroom and the refitting of the main bedroom. The bathrooms are beautiful and I'm sure the third bedroom will prove to be just right for some of my guests. A Parking Permit is available for your use between 1st May and 31st October. Outside: Outside off the main bedroom is a small terrace garden where you will find a Chimnea - one of those little log burners - and a Barbecue - handy if you have children and want to eat in. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All bed linen included and made up for arrival of guests. Guests required to supply own towels and tea towels. Apartment is cleaned at the end of weekly stay. Can arrange for additional cleaning for longer bookings. Other: The apartment offers light, bright, airy and deceptively spacious accommodation.

A great week in a great apartment. What a view!

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a week in this apartment and enjoyed every moment of it. The weather helped which was full sun almost everyday. The apartment is situated within Dartmouth within a short easy walk to the main shopping streets and practically a flight of steps to the front at Bayards Cove. The property is spacious, modern and clean. The view is amazing. We sat there every morning and evening watching the river. We found a parking place right outside the building and there is stayed for the whole week. We used the various ferries to take us to Dittisham (Ditsum if local), Totnes, the castle and to Kingswear. We took the train to Greenway House and the bus services elsewhere. It was a relief to be able to ditch the car for a week. Crabbing on the jetty at Dittisham is incredible and if you have children then it's a must. The ferry takes you right there. The Ferry Boat Inn serves great food. Get there early to bag the window seat like we did. Another incredible view. The village of Dittisham spreads across this hillside with lanes that lead here and there and to a children's play area. Worth a wander. We caught the steam train to Churston and from there a free shuttle bus to Greenway House. Again, the National Trust have done an amazing job. The house and gardens are fabulous. The interior is untouched from Agatha Christie's day. We also went to another NT property at Coleton Fishacre which is nearby. The same goes for this estate, plus the food was great. We caught a small ferry to the castle as well spotting porpoises on the way. There is a nice café there and another amazing view. We didn't go in the castle so I can't comment on it but took the picturesque walk back to Dartmouth passing Warfleet Cove and some lucky homeowners overlooking the river. The town of Dartmouth is full of quality shops and restaurants. We only ate out in the evening once at the Ship Inn in Kingswear. If you want an old pub full of character then this is the place. I wouldn't recommend it for families/ children though. The menu was a bit limited and possibly overpriced but the food was nice. I've been to Dartmouth many times and stayed in various properties. Out of all of them this is the one I would (and will) come to again. I thought it was good value for money with the 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and large open plan kitchen/lounge but the above all this was the view. The photos do not do it justice. It really enhanced what was already an excellent week for us.

The best place I have ever stayed!

  • 5 of 5

We were given clear instructions and arrival was perfect. The apartment was stunning but also very comfortable, the beds were excellent. The view from the wonderful windows just kept us watching all the time. We were there at Christmas and the carol service took place with so many people but we could see it from above. Also if a visit is made in summer, a cute little patio at the rear would be nice. We all had our own space without being squashed together. Dartmouth is very friendly and I am hoping to return to Above Bayards soon.

Absolutely stunning in every aspect

  • 5 of 5

From the start our 'mini- break' was perfect. The view through the bay window when we first arrived at the apartment, of Dartmouth just giving into night was immense. So tranquil and the opposite hill was beginning to come alive with glimmering lights. We knew we had picked well.

Nearly every product was provided (except food/drink & towels/personal toiletries) so we needn't have brought all the extras for kitchen basics. Brilliant home from home facilities. We had a parking space outside for the entire visit too :) Happy days!

The apartment was warm and cosy for our November stay, and with two fussy teenager girls with us, we knew it was good as there wasn't a peep of negativity about anything. We will definitely be booking again. Thanks Anne, a complete joy to get away to your apartment for the weekend.

Perfect weekend

  • 5 of 5

From the minute you enter the apartment you feel relaxed. Step through the door, look right and the view does the rest! The apartment is open plan, so whether you're sitting, eating or it's your turn to do the dishes you will always be able to see across the water. We opened the windows, even in October, and the apartment still feels cosy. All the reviews so far are absolutely spot on, the bedrooms, lovely modern hot showers so what ever you do don't pass up a chance to stay here, you'll love it. We hadn't been to Dartmouth before and just needed a place for the weekend, Anne is so accommodating and made the booking really easy. Staying here made our visit to Dartmouth a special one.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to write a review, I am so pleased you had a great weekend. As Autumn takes hold visitors will be able to discover the changing beauty of this beautiful spot on our South West coast. Just the right place to enjoy coastal walks on a crisp Wintery day, or maybe just a sedate stroll around the lovely shops for some 'stress less' Christmas shopping. Then round off the day in the warmth and comfort of the apartment and soak up those wonderful watery views with a hot drink - or a glass of wine. Plenty of dates available for short Winter breaks, go on treat yourselves. Anne

The view, the apartment, the owners, it's a must!

  • 5 of 5

Apartment lovely, fixtures and fittings all of a very high standard. View out of this world. We spent most morning captivated by the window watching the world go by, the little eight car ferry going back and forth, boats going up and down the river. (Waiting for our three teenagers to wake up wasn't a wasted a morning due to the view.) Loads of lovely places to shop and eat in easy walking distance. Parking permit allocated great! Dartmouth is the English Riviera. Owners really helpful with any enquiries, support. Would definitely recommend to all. Make sure you crab / fish off the sea wall, go over on the ferry and visit Beryhead cafe and watch dolphin fins! Go on the river itself and look back at the Naval College. Thank you for letting us stay, your hospitality was awesome- The Hargreaves Clan.
