About the property

Cottage in Anstruther, Near St Andrews, Fife, Scotland - A Few Minutes Stroll From The Harbourside (500 Yards); 9-miles From St Andrews

Comfortable and extremely well appointed 2 bedroom cottage set within a recently converted courtyard (formally a fish merchant's yard). Located in Anstruther, the largest of the East Neuk fishing villages, is home to the Scottish Fisheries Museum as well as interesting shops, pubs and an award winning fish and chip shop (500 yards). Just 9 miles away lies the ‘home’ of golf, the ancient university town of St Andrews, and many other excellent courses are close by. Visitors can enjoy boat trips to the Isle of May, there are wonderful coastal footpaths and the beaches are glorious.

Wonderful location wonderful accommodation

  • 5 of 5

This was our first visit to Creel Cottage and it won't be our last. We could not have asked for more comfortable, well appointed, perfectly located accommodation. Furnishings were of a high standard and the owner made sure our every comfort was met.

We have visited St Andrews many times but this was our first proper visit to the East Neuk area of Fife. Don't go home until you've tasted the wonderful cheese scones at the nearby cheese factory and the local Indian restaurant in Anstruther provided one of the best curries we have tasted. The Boathouse served a variety of excellent food at reasonable prices with friendly staff making for a very pleasant dining experience. We would not hesitate to recommend Creel Cottage ( we already have) and Anstruther should be on everyone's bucket list of places to visit.

Lovely accomodation

  • 4 of 5

Just back from a 4 night stay at Creel cottage in Anstruther. Accomodation was very well kept and had everything you would need for a comfortable stay. It didn't feel like we were staying in a holiday let it had a really homely feel to it. The location was great, a 5 min stroll down to the harbour with its beach and famous chip shops. Also a great park a couple of hundred yards along the road for the kids to play. Anstruther was a great location and from there it was only a short drive to places such as Craill and Elie that were nice to explore.

Creel Cottage Anstruther

  • 5 of 5

Stayed in this wonderful cottage with friends at the end of April. It was beautifully furnished, very well equipped, very clean and cosy. With a bathroom and ensuite it was ideal for 2 couples or for a family. Anstruther is a delightful resort and we would recommend a visit to the extremely interesting Scottish Fisheries Museum, a reminder of the hardships of the fishing industry. There are beautiful walks along the coast and St Andrews was a very interesting and historic town. We played golf several times and even played at Fairmont St Andrew at a greatly reduced price - a very testing links course especially in the strong winds! We would be very happy to stay in Creel Cottage again and would recommend it to friends. The owners are so helpful and we had no trouble finding it with the directions given.

Creel Cottage Anstruther

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a relaxing holiday at Creel Cottage Anstruther. This delightful cottage is a credit to the owner, it is well equipped, clean and is only a 5 minute stroll to the shops and amenities. It is perfect for couple as well as families, the rooms are a good size and very light and airy. We wouldnt hesitate to stay here again the owners are very obliging and nothing is too much trouble.

The shoreline of the Firth of Forth is dotted with some of Scotland's finest beaches with 5 of Scotland's 7 award winning blue flag beaches situated in the Kingdom of Fife. Aberdours's Silver Sands looks out to the islands of Inchmickery and Inchcolm and is one of the most stunning sections of the Coastal Path. Fife's other Blue Flag beaches are St Andrews West Sands, Burntisland, Elie Ruby Bay and Leven.

Edinburgh Airport - 48 miles.

Good local bus service and wonderful coastal trails but to take full advantage of the East Neuk of Fife then you may wish to consider the use of a car.

Further Details:

Anstruther was originally a fishing village, and is home to the Scottish Fisheries Museum, but its main industry is now tourism, although other small scale manufacturing and service industries continue. Pleasure craft now moor in the harbour, and there is a golf course. Anstruther Pleasure Cruises operate sightseeing/wildlife cruises from the harbour to the Isle of May on board the 'May Princess' from April till October, the Isle of May is considered the UK's No.1 Puffin location, there is also an abundance of other interesting wildlife and seal colonies on the Island.

Anstruther sits on the Fife Coastal Trail and you can enjoy wonderfully scenic walks along well estabslished footpaths to Pittenweem, Crail, St Monans, Elie and beyond. It makes you appreciate what is so special about the East Neuk.

Being the largest fishing village in the East Neuk there are plenty of shops to browse. There is also a large Cooperative Supermarket, 2 banks, Post Office and a Tourist Information Centre. Anstruther is the ideal location for visiting the local area.

Eating Out:

Anstruther Fish Bar – world famous but we prefer the “Wee Chippy”.

Seafood and Fine Wine @ The Cellar – fine dining for those special occasions.

Eastern Touch – Indian restaurant, wonderful curries made with fresh ingredients.

Haven Restaurant (Cellardyke) – great seafood overlooking harbour and Isle of May.

Rockies Restaurant @ Anstruther Golf Club – very good quality, stunning views.

Waterfront – good quality food at reasonable prices.

Although Anstruther has many good places to eat the rest of the East Neuk is blessed with great eating establishments.

Scottish Fisheries Museum – on your doorstep.

Scotland’s Secret Nuclear Bunker – 3 miles.

East Sands Leisure Centre – 8 miles.

Craigtoun Country Park – 8 miles.
