Two Contemporary Holiday Barns in the Heart of the Cornish Countryside. - Skyber Sleeps 4 (2 Bedrooms)

Updated: 17-Oct-2016
Barns in Truro, Cornwall, England - Peaceful, Picturesque Location in the Centre Of Cornwall, Ideal For Touring, Walking, Cycling

The traditional barns were recently re-built and re-furbished and are decorated and equipped with virtually everything you would expect in a modern home, including underfloor heating, dishwashers, washer/driers, LED TVs and WiFi. The bedrooms are bright and welcoming, with hardwood furniture and sumptuous bedding; each master bedroom is a luxurious place for couples, whilst the second bedroom is cheerful and imaginative space for youngsters. The sitting rooms are contemporary and comfortable, with plenty of seating and soft cushions, along with HiFis for music lovers, which incorporate either bluetooth connectivity or an iphone docking station. The bathrooms have both a full size bath and power showers and the kitchens are modern, spacious and fully equipped. Outside, each property has its own private and gated deck area with a barbecue, plus hardwood table, parasol and seating. The surrounding lawned area, gardens and the fantastic views are for all guests to share.

Both barns are ideal for families with young children, offering safe enclosed grounds and a play area with climbing frame, slide and swings within view. Also, to save you loading the car to the gunnels, we have provided a comprehensive range of baby equipment including cot, highchair, stairgate (for The Byre) baby bath and changing station. Whilst both barns can easily accommodate 4 persons in their two bedrooms, there is also the option to make it 5 in each. The second bedroom of Skyber has a small double bed and a full size single (plus cots can be provided). The Byre also has a very comfortable fold out sofa bed, in addition to the second bedroom, with it's full size bunk beds, so if you need to accommodate some extra guests for a few days it won't be a problem.

Having said all of the above, the main attraction of Tregear Barns is their location. In the centre of Cornwall - but away from it all - it is an ideal base for touring and a wonderful retreat at the end of a hard day exploring all that Cornwall has to offer.

About the Owner

We are not Cornwall born and bred but visited the county for holidays nearly every year with family and friends for at least 30 years. We loved the county so much we decided to buy it (well a small piece anyway).

Having furnished and equipped the barns to a high standard and improved them over the last four years, on the basis of valuable feedback from all our guests, we believe we offer families - and especially those with young children - a relatively peaceful, safe, enjoyable and comfortable base from which to explore and enjoy everything Cornwall has to offer.

Our aim is to make sure that the barns have everything you need, so that you don't need our support or presence, but if we can help we would be pleased to do so. We look forward to welcoming you.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you for a lovely stay at ‘The Byre’, Tregear. We were delighted to be your first guests. It is a lovely, peaceful location, but with easy access to the rest of Cornwall. Thanks for making it a great holiday and we wish you every success for the future.

Jon & Debbie, Staffordshire.

Excellent property in great location

  • 5 of 5

We were absolutely delighted with our stay and from the moment we arrived we received the warmest of welcomes. That friendly atmosphere continued for the whole week from our perfect hosts - the loan of a beach shelter tent to take on our travels was an added bonus as the weather was not overly kind to us!

The property is exactly as advertised with furniture and fittings of a very high standard. The beds were extremely comfortable and our two young sons loved their spacious bedroom and the chance to play outside in the garden and on the wooden fort.

This is an excellent location as it combines the peace of tranquility of the Cornish countryside with a central location and main routes just a few minutes away meaning we were able to tour the county with ease.

We are already looking at options for a return visit and would happily recommend this property to friends and family.

Thumbs up! Perfect Location, Relaxing, Private.

Fantastic location. Being central, there are simply loads of places you can access within 20-30 mins drive. The outdoor space was excellent, the kids spent loads of time on the play frame and the large garden allowed for lots of outdoor time playing games. The cottage itself was great, well equipped and well laid out. We received a very friendly welcome and then were left alone to enjoy our holiday, except when we had queries or requests, which Judith responded to helpfully and efficiently. Overall a fantastic holiday. Chris and Jo

semplicemente perfetto

  • 5 of 5

Many thanks for our first Italian review - and for our English readers - this is what Google translate thinks you said! This cottage was for us like being at home; with attention to even the smallest detail, great decor and equipped with everything you would need. Our children 4 and 6 years old especially loved it: as in the garden there was a castle built for them to play on, which they very much enjoyed. In the barn there were also DVDs, games and books for the little ones. The barn reflects perfectly the description that we found on the internet; it was just a little hard to find, completely surrounded by fields and woods, but it was worth it. The cleaning was excellent and Judith had even prepared a "cream tea" upon our arrival, with lots of cream, jam and home-made scones! The barns were perfectly located  in the center of Cornwall; and we were able to visit many places I definitely recommend it, and if we return to this beautiful region of England, surely this would again be our starting point!

Fantastic family holiday

  • 5 of 5

Thank you Steve and Judith for a wonderful family holiday. Our two little girls loved their holiday home as that was exactly how it felt. A brilliant home from home, albeit with much better views. The barns are beautifully decorated and furnished with special little extras like books, games and DVDs for all the family to enjoy. Our barn was well prepared and the Cornish Cream Tea on arrival, with baby scones for our girls was a really thoughtful touch. The location of the barns is perfect, just a short drive from a number of beautiful beaches, Crantock being our favourite, and numerous other attractions. The grounds are lovely and perfect for small people to run around in and the addition of a garden swing/adventure set was ideal. We were able to lock our bike in the shed overnight and used Steve and Judith's local knowledge to make the most of our week. A wonderful holiday and we hope to revisit the barns again soon.

Out of Season Break

  • 5 of 5

We took a risk on the weather in the school Christmas holidays and it paid off! However, we would not have minded if it had not as we would have been happy to have spent our time relaxing in the comfort of the lovely Skyber Barn. Our two children loved it as much as we did. It is equipped with everything that you need, tastefully decorated and stocked with games, books and DVDs to entertain you on even the grey days. Fortunately for us, we only had blue skies and sunshine - the children even got to play on the lovely play equipment in the garden - and we were able to make the most of this great, central location which is ideal for exploring the varied and beautiful nearby coastline.

We visited Mawgan Porth, Watergate Bay, Holywell Bay, Padstow and Falmouth to name but a few. We ate at some great local restaurants and enjoyed the stunning surrounding countryside too. Often we have found that it takes such a long time to visit anywhere in Cornwall but this location was fantastic for gettting out and about - better than staying right on the coast.

Steve and Judith were fantastic hosts, catering for our every need, providing us with recommendations when we asked for them and generally making us feel very welcome and looked after. Judith had even checked that it was alright with us that there was a TV and DVD in the children's room - alright? They were delighted! It was the Christmas holidays after all! But it was very considerate that they checked.

This was a truly memorable Twixtmas break and we cannot wait to return. Highly recommended.

First class customer care

  • 4 of 5

From the first email to Steve we were provided First Class Customer service with detailed information regarding every aspect of our stay at Tregear Barns.

On arrival, we found that the Barn was clean, comfortable and homely with all of the home comforts installed.

The location of the barns is perfect for exploring Cornwall as it is centrally located which made it perfect for our stay as we took time out between work to visit some of the beautiful places Cornwall has to offer.

In all we would recommend Tregear Barns and that Steve and Judith for their hospitality and Communication.

From the Owner

We searched the property web sites - and searched Cornwall - for over five years before finding and deciding to buy Tregear Barns. What we love about the place is now reflected in our visitors reactions. They all tend to say 'wow' and 'isn't this a fabulous location' and 'how did you find it'. You are not going to pass here by accident. It is on an unnamed single track road in the middle of hundreds of acres of farm and woodland - and - as you will see from the photos - sufficiently elevated to be able to see across the valley for several miles. What we also love is that everything is within a short drive - and at the end of the day to come back here, sit on the deck with a glass of wine and watch the birds jostling at the bird feeder and hear the owls hooting to one another.

There are lots of beaches available a short drive away, on both the north and south coasts, as Tregear is situated in the middle of one of the narrowest parts of the county.

Some of the best surfing beaches in the country are nearby. The beach at Perranporth is approximately 8 miles distant. Newquay, has 7 beautiful beaches with Crantock at 10 miles and Fistral, 12miles away. St Austell and Mevagissey & St Agnes are c.12 miles and St Mawes on the Roseland Peninsula is c. 20 miles by road.

Newquay Airport is c.15 miles and the journey to Tregear can be completed by car in around 20 mins. Falmouth, St Austell, Fowey and the beautiful Roseland peninsula are all c.40 mins. All of our visitors have been delighted with how easy the central location makes it to access all that Cornwall has to offer.

The South is more often characterised by quiet picturesque villages and harbours. in terms of activities, there is sailing, surfing, windsurfing, coasteering, sea and estuary kayaking, fishing, horse-riding, shooting, walking, music and fine dining, architecture, cinema, theatre and shopping all within at most a 30 mins drive. From the Owner

There are plenty of rental properties in Cornwall and many with sea views or are part of a larger complex of properties. What Tregear has to offer is a location which is central to Cornwall, which is incredibly peaceful and comfortable and which offers a certain degree of privacy. (There are only two holiday units and these are quite separate from one another, although still within view.) Its probably not ideal for families with teenagers who want to see the bright lights but it may be ideal for those who want to watch the stars. For those for whom peace and quiet is not enough there is every kind of activity available within 30 mins drive. Sailing, surfing, sea kayaking, coasteering, hiking, cycling, walking, shopping, cinema, theatre, good food and excellent beer.

  • Notes on accommodation: For your comfort and convenience, the beds will be made up with fresh bed linen for your arrival and bath/tea towels will be provided plus a supply of tea, coffee and milk (however, don't forget beach towels!) The price quoted includes all utilities, so you don’t need to worry about any additional costs associated with electricity, hot water & heating. We also offer free Wi Fi (as downloads are limited, we would appreciate you downloading films etc. before visiting). The TV’s come with Freesat, HD & DVD players - in case the weather lets us down! Both barns have modern oil fired heating with instant hot water and underfloor heating, so no cold floors. Our water is sourced from a borehole and we are not on mains drainage, so we are being environmentally aware, using eco products and recycling. With all furniture and bedding being new, we are not taking pets but will re-assess each year as the country lanes and nearby woods would be perfect for walking dogs. Outside: The properties are located just north of Truro, 2 miles along a single track unnamed road. They have their own entrance, with an offroad gravel parking space for at least four vehicles adjacent to the properties. Each has a gated wooden deck area, within a large garden/courtyard, which overlooks hundreds of acres of farm and woodland. The decks are furnished with hardwood tables and chairs and a barbecue. A recent addition is the adventure play equipment, comprised of a fort, swings and slide and climbing wall, which is ideal for keeping young children entertained, whilst you relax on the wooden deck. Whilst the location is peaceful and remote, access to the main route through Cornwall (A30) is only a few minutes drive and all of Cornwall's beaches and tourist attractions are also only a short drive away. The nearest pub/restaurant is approximately 2 miles away in Ladock, whilst major shopping facilities can be accessed in either Truro or Newquay.
