About the Owner

After successful business careers and many years of long days and long commutes, in 2002 the opportunity arose for us to make the lifestyle change which we had both dreamed of and worked for.

In July 2005 after numerous property viewings and the difficulties of negotiating the property market both in terms of buying and selling, we finally moved to Hall Farm Wetton.

We are never happier than when we have visitors to our cottages as we love to share our wonderful location.

We are always happy to give advice on walks or what to do and see but equally we understand that some of our guests simply want the peace and solitude which our location offers.

Stunning setting; warm and cosy. Perfect

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic time staying here; the views are stunning. Loved looking out to see a passing cow or sheep.

The cottage was really cosy; fully equipped and a great base for exploring nearby towns and attractions.

The owners were fantastic hosts; and the local pub is a ten minute walk away and offers a lovely warm welcome.

Great walk to Thors cave.

We will return.

Thank you - A & L

Ideal family holiday

  • 5 of 5

Thirteen of us ranging in age from 2 to 75 enjoyed a wonderful family holiday in Wetton last August/September. The accommodation was clean and comfortable and we particularly appreciated the provision of essential supplies and of course the play barn with entertainment for all ages. Not only would we highly recommend the property but plan to come back ourselves.

Excellent cycling and walking base

  • 5 of 5

Some of our cycling club members wanted more challenging terrain, so the Peak District seemed an ideal choice; we booked all three cottages for a long weekend, having noted that secure cycle storage was available. The cottages were comfortable, clean, and reasonably well kitted out with the usual self-catering equipment and facilities - the storeroom of essentials (for a small price) was especially handy on arrival, for staples such as milk and eggs.

The cottages form an excellent base from which to explore the Peaks, and there is the awesome Thor's Cave just up the road to start your adventure off - it's definitely worth the short scramble up to the cave mouth. The local pub, the Royal Oak, serves decent portions for a reasonable price, and we made sure we enjoyed the Blue Moon craft beer, on tap.

Our weekend was predominantly spent trying to cycle up the hills, whilst enjoying the spectacular scenery. We enjoyed it so much, there is already talk of booking again for next year.

Excellent short break in all 3 cottages

  • 5 of 5

We rented all 3 cottages for a family get together. Which was great. We were all right next door to each other but also had our own space, plus it didn;t mean the earliest riser woke everyone else up.

The single story cottage was great for the grandparents, no stairs, and the two families had the 2 beds v(kids ranging from 5 to 9 years old). The kids loved the playbarn. There are lots of toys and they found things to play with. Remember it is a barn so can be chilly. They also liked the independence of going out to the barn or paddock without parents in tow.

The walk to the cave was a big hit, we were only there 3 days but the kids went on two of them. You'll need a torch to look around properly but can go a fair distance in without one.

The cottages were small but cosy (i.e. cottages) and we enjoyed staying there very much. There is no dishwasher so take something to wash up with.

The local pub was great, a five minute walk, very friendly. We had sunday lunch there and they set up a big table for the 10 of us.

The village is small but you can walk around it on the quiet lanes and see the sheep, which the kids enjoyed, or go to the village play area. There isn't much there but take a ball or a cricket set or just play chase.

Getting there, it is deep in the country side so check you know the directions. Sat nav gets you close but you just need to have a check for the last bit.

In summary, we enjoyed staying here very much and would recommend it.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review Mike and your helpful comments for future guests. We are finding that more and more family groups and groups of friends are using the cottages for a celebration or simply a get together. We are pleased too that you enjoyed the village of Wetton which we think is a haven of peace in the lovely Staffordshire Moorlands whilst being close to all of the attractions of the Peak District.

Wonderful relaxing holiday

  • 5 of 5

We had a very restful week in Thor's cottage. The views were beautiful - valley to the front and fields to the back. It felt very secluded and a real escape from urban life. I thought the cottage might be drafty but it soon warmed up and stayed snug throughout the week - even when we awoke to find everywhere covered in snow! Christine and Ian were so helpful giving us suggestions for walks / lending maps / suggesting where to buy a real Bakewell tart! Our young children (7, 5 and 3) had a great time. The play barn was a real hit (it was cold but they didn't seem to notice!) as was the large garden with play equipment. We had beautiful walks everyday as the surrounding countryside is stunning. Thank you very much for a wonderful holiday, we hope to return and next time will bring bikes.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review Laura and we are delighted that you so enjoyed your stay with us. The snowmen that you made were still with us a week later! We will look forward to meeting you all again and yes do bring your bikes. The Manifold trail is only five minutes away and the other cycle trails, Tissington, High Peak, Monsal and Carsington Water are all only a short drive from the cottages and we are able to provide secure dry storage for the bikes.

Great New Year Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Chose two of the cottages for a New Year getaway with a group of friends (9 of us in total), perfect for our needs, cottages were clean and homely with everything we needed for the duration of the trip. Importantly in the cold weather they were still warm and if it did get cold there were plenty of heating appliances dotted around to fix it quickly.

Beautiful location, and fairly easy to get to even in the snow, although if it'd have fresher it could have caused difficulties. The group wasn't much for walking/hiking but given the location there are plenty of opportunities for nice walks.

Owners were always prompt with equerries and were on hand on arrival to show us around and help with anything we needed.

All in all I'd thoroughly recommend the property for people looking to get away from busy city life.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review Kurt. We are pleased that you and your friends enjoyed your stay with us over the New Year and that you found the cottages to be cosy in spite of the sub zero temperatures at times. Our location in the centre of the country is ideal for reunions such as yours. As you rightly say there is wonderful walking from our doorstep and everyone that visits enjoys the peace and solitude, it really is the perfect place to wind down.

From the Owner

We had first viewed the house and cottages in 2003 and had been immediately captivated by its stunning location and its potential for development. Ian had walked the area many times since the late sixties (and spent many a happy hour hour in the Royal Oak Wetton) and considered the Staffordshire Moorlands one of the most beautiful and unspoilt areas of the Peak District. Christine, a keen amateur gardener, was blown away by the potential for the gardens and was undaunted by the six foot high beds of nettles which formed the borders. Nine years on it is still work-in-progress and will always be so as we strive to continually improve the properties and their environment and consequently the experience for our guests who incidentally have often become our friends too.
