About the Owner

Our family home was no 49. My father managed a cinema with my mothers help. When we were old enough we worked altogether.

26 years ago we bought 47 after my neighbour died. I am Sheila & live at 47 with our 2 Labradors, Jessie & Annie. My brother's Robert who does tax work & Ian who runs small Post Offices. I am a mobile hairdresser. We work well together & have varied interests, one being the garden. Robert plays the organ at different churches & both Rob & Ian sing in different choirs.

We used to go on self catering holidays ourselves as we had a dog & didn't want her to go into kennels.

We wanted to have a holiday home that catered for young & old. We wanted to have a happy home for families & pets, so they could take away happy memories & would enjoy their holiday in all weathers & seasons.

Fantastic Holiday in a Fantastic House

  • 5 of 5

From arriving to a guided tour and fresh scones we knew we would have a great holiday here and we did. By far and away the best place we have ever stayed in, with everything we needed (and many things we had taken ourselves and that we were surprised were included)

Having a place to come back to every day that felt like our own home took so much stress out of the holiday, and left us able to enjoy every minute.

The children loved the games room, turning it into their own club / den whilst we sat in the garden and the dog lazed in the sun. Also the Wii came in very handy with holiday 'Olympics' also keeping the children occupied.

The house itself is a nice if hilly walk into town but well worth every step for the wonderful views. Also Hastings is within a close drive of so many things to do it would take a year to do them all.

We will have to return, and when we do we would not stay anywhere else! I can only say thank you for making our holiday so relaxing, and we wish we could have stayed indefinitely.

Also you have set a very high standard for anywhere else we ever go!

Thanks again,

The Bloomfields

Owner's Response: We enjoyed having such a lovely family and Alfie your dog with so much character. You left the house in good order & look forward to seeing you again in the future.

Great place, great welcome

  • 5 of 5

This is a perfect rental for a sizeable group. We were 6 adults, 3 children, and a baby and the house was an ideal size and very nicely furnished. We got a wonderful welcome from Sheila who is very friendly and extremely helpful. She even arranged a z-bed and a cot to be put out and made up. Location is great as it is just a short walk to West Hill and down into town. All in all an excellent experience.

Location

From the Owner

We live next door to the holiday home & love our location. The houses are spacious & well built, close to everything we need and enjoy. The sea is close by & it doesn't take long before you get to green spaces. We take our dogs Jessie & Annie to the Bos field or the West Hill most days & marvel at the views. The weather is also kind to us as we benefit from being in a protective bay between Beachy Head & Rye. It doesn't always protect us but often we escape the worst of the weather.

Notes:

  • Notes on accommodation: We have solar water heating to take advantage of the sun with backup from gas for provision of both hot water & heating. When there is a party of 8 there is no rushing for showers as there are 2 shower rooms and a shower over the bath in the bathroom with a separate toilet upstairs. The house is very versatile & everyone can join together or do there own thing. You can choose how much you do or how little. We find it is a great place for families to meet together, when they live in different parts of the country. Pets are not left out, as they are members of the family too. The owners live next door and are on hand to help with any problems or give advice. We have a welcome folder with information to answer the most commonly asked questions. There are handbooks for the National Trust & English Heritage as well as literature featuring other attractions, to give you ideas on where to go if you haven't decided already. The owners grow different fruits & vegetables & visitors to the house. Outside: Although Mount Pleasant House is situated on a main road, little traffic noise can be heard in the garden and people are amazed that they can sit peacefully & either relax or use the games room which has proved to be very popular. The astroturf lawn is easy to keep clean for visitors who bring pets with them. We are lucky to have many green spaces in the surrounding area. There are St Helens Woods about 10 mins walk to the back of the house. On the way, you can stop at "The BOS" playing field, which is an enclosed space where dogs can run free & includes a fenced off play area for children with swings & climbing frames. The East & West Hills overlook Hastings Old Town, which has proved popular with visitors & now features "The Gerwood Art Gallery". The West Hill is nearer the house & has the newly renovated Smugglers Caves. The ruins of Hastings Castle is also close by, which you can see from the front bedroom. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: The house is thoroughly cleaned. Towels are supplied & beds are made up for arrival of visitors. If visitors stay longer than a week, we supply the fresh linen & towels & will change the beds if required. Other: The ground floor is on one level & is ideal for either the very young or people with mobility problems with no need to climb the stairs..
