About the property

House in Tenby, Pembrokeshire, Wales - Spacious, Stylish And Comfortable Accommodation In A Wonderful Location

Castle View House is a fine early Victorian town house dating from 1840, with later extensions at the rear. Run as a popular hotel from the 1930s up until 2012, it is now an unusually spacious holiday house. With a high ratio of living space to the number of bedrooms there is plenty of room for everyone to spread out as well as to come together to dine, converse and watch the ever changing seascape.

This is the ideal location for memorable holidays and for celebrating special events at all times of the year. Past guests have included four generation extended families and groups of walkers, artists and Iron Man competitors. The house sleeps up to fourteen in spacious comfort with eight bedrooms (six en-suite) and a top-spec family bathroom. The magnificent first floor drawing room has spectacular views through the vast bay window of the harbour, the castle (of course!) and out to sea. Sociable meals can be taken around the huge antique table in the dining room, and when you can drag yourselves away from the view there is a home cinema room with Sky+ and dvd player (a second tv and dvd in the Sun Room helps avoid any squabbles over viewing choices). The Games Room contains a full sized table football and an upright piano should you wish to accompany matches with a rousing anthem or two. There is wifi throughout the house.

The good-sized garden is enclosed and sunny, with a paved courtyard, lawns, decked seating platform and barbecue area. There is a private car park behind the house, where we rent four allocated spaces for the exclusive use of our guests - a real bonus in Tenby - with additional parking if needed available close by at North Beach car park.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"Castle View House is without doubt a five star holiday house in Tenby, Pembrokeshire, which those of us travelling from London found more easily accessible than Cornwall. The house has wonderful sea views, is extremely comfortable and spacious, has easy access to the beach and town (we hardly used our cars) and Meg, the owner, has provided lots of extra touches to make this a real home from home. We were three generations who found everything we needed (including toys, buckets and spades!) and with glorious late summer sunshine Castle View House really was the perfect venue for a very happy and memorable family holiday."

"What a beautiful house! You have done a brilliant job- congratulations. The views are fabulous, the rooms comfortable and so pretty and your restoration is a real success - sympathetic and inspired. We're so glad we came - would love to come back."

"Thanks Meg for all your help in arranging this lovely weekend. Everyone, especially the children (and the dog!) had a marvellous time. The house was just perfect for us all." .

"The house has been a perfect location for our family gathering, the glorious views, so many wonderful rooms. Four generations aged between 9 months and 94 years, we have all enjoyed every day.... the house is so spacious and comfortable we don't want to leave. Lots of special memories!"

Great house with amazing views of Tenby!

  • 5 of 5

We hired this house for a long weekend do some walking in the area. The house is perfect for a group - we were only 7 girls - but the place is huge so big groups would have plenty of space. It is very well equipped - with everything you need for a self catering break. The bedrooms are all nicely decorated and all but 2 have an en-suite shower or bathrooms. The two rooms without en-suites have use of the 2 additional bathrooms. The kitchen is large and fully equipped. There is a massive dining room, TV room and games room and a pretty, sunny garden at the back with areas to sit. The large lounge if fantastic with amazing views over the town of Tenby and the Bay. You can walk everywhere. Parking at the back was really easy and convenient. Would definitely return and would highly recommend to all types of groups.

Booking was very straight forward - The owner Meg was very helpful and supplied all the information we needed. The key safe system works really well. Thank you Meg!

Couldn't be better....!!!

  • 5 of 5

We had an absolutely wonderful family week in this amazing house! As a larger number of 8 adults and 8 children there is always an initial concern of whether there would be ample room for it to feel like a 'holiday'... but there was room a-plenty and considering there were 8 children 7 and under it was a very relaxing fun-filled break away....the house lended itself perfectly to such a gathering and we wouldn't hesitate in returning......it ticked all our boxes....Brilliant!

Wow what a house!!

  • 5 of 5

A wonderful stay thank you in an incredibly comfortable and delightful house in the most perfect location. The view from the lounge across the bay was the subject of every evening's conversation. A spacious and well thought out holiday house where 8 adults and 8 children(under 7 years old) certainly made the most of everything on offer. We enjoyed the most memorable holiday and the enclosed garden was a most welcome bonus to spend time in when not on the beach!. The ease of parking was also extremely convenient. The quantity and variety of children's toys, buckets and spades, books and reference books of the area, games and puzzles etc provided at the house were so useful, and the owner was very helpful in answering any of the queries we had.

I knew the house surpassed all my expectations as soon as I walked in through the front door and spending our week in Castle View with my family was epic. Simply perfectly wonderful.

Amazing...fabulous house, amazing vies and excellent communication and intructions from owner

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing time in this fabulous house, with families and friends, young and old. It's huge, and the rooms are plentiful, comfortable and spacious, there are so many toilets we lost count (and we almost lost a few children playing hide and seek!!!) We often couldn't hear if there were others in the house the way it is set out, and the cinema room was a big hit for a night in. The facilities were fabulous, including loads of crockery for adults and children, and most importantly plenty of champagne glasses! There were even buckets and spades, body boards and fishing nets to take to the beach. My favourite place was sitting in the lounge, with views of Tenby harbour, with a stunning fire, relaxing after a lovely day, I'd go back tomorrow if I could. Meg the owner was so helpful, and responded to any queries immediately. All the instructions were brilliant, clear and helpful, all I ask is don't book when I want to go back!!!

Absolutely Fabulous!

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a weekend at Castle View House to celebrate our parents golden wedding anniversary & all I can say is WOW! The house is absolutely fabulous, with all the little details catered for including binolulars in the drawing room to look at the beautiful view! The house is big enough so larger groups dont fall over themselves yet small enough to feel welcoming & warm. The kids made good use of the cinema room & enjoyed working through the large amount of films provided. The kitchen was more than adequate when catering for a larger group & it was another added bonus to have a dining table large enough to seat everyone comfortably. Before our arrival, Meg (the owner) was extremely helpful in answering any questions I had, another thoughtful touch was the welcome gifts left to help with our celebrations. We will definitely book again. Thank you for everything Meg x PS we were a group of 12 (7 adults & 5 young teens)

Location

Activity and Interests

Coast/Beach:

Castle View House is directly above Tenby's blue flag North Beach, and Castle, Harbour and South beaches are a short walk away. South Beach, with 2 kilometres of golden sand spanning the shoreline from St. Catherine's Island to Giltar Point, allows dogs all year.

Travel:

Tenby is an easy 2 hour drive down the M4 from the Severn Bridge Crossing near Bristol, with motorway and dual carriageway for all but the last few miles. It is approximately 3.5 hours drive from Heathrow, 4 hours from West London, 3.5 hours from Birmingham, 1.5 hours from Cardiff.

Tenby has a train station and trains run from London Paddington via Reading, Bristol, Cardiff and Swansea.

Distances:

3 miles to seaside town of Saundersfoot. 4 miles to Manorbier's beach, 12th Century Church and Castle; 4 miles to Carew Castle; 8 miles to Pembroke and its Castle, birthplace of Henry VII; 11 miles to Pembroke Dock and ferries to Ireland; 12 miles to the NT's beautiful Stackpole Estate; 15 miles to Freshwater West beach, where Shell Cottage of Harry Potter fame was built from scratch; 20 miles to the county town of Haverfordwest; 26 miles to Marloe Sands where Kristen Stewart rode in Snow White.

Further Details:

Shopping: A Tesco Metro supermarket (open from 6am - 10pm) is a 4 minute walk away with a larger Sainsbury's supermarket within the town for a wider choice. Tenby's many small shops include WH Smiths, plenty of surf shops, antique shops, one or two women's fashion stores and an old fashioned sweet shop.

Eating out: a wide selection of cafes and restaurants to suit all pockets and tastes - from excellent fish and chips, classic pub food, Indian restaurants and one or two high quality restaurants including our favourite the Blue Ball.

Out and about: all around Tenby is a walker's and nature lover's paradise. Within 10 miles there are several beautiful coastal locations and beaches such as the world renowned Barafundle Bay at Stackpole Quay, Bosherston Lily Ponds and Broadhaven Beach (both featured on BBCs Secret Britain). From Marloes a short boat trip will take you to Skomer Island and its famous bird colonies including guillemots, razorbills and the comical puffins, surrounded by one of only three marine nature reserves in the UK. Anna Ryder's Wild Welsh Zoo is just 2 miles away.

Activities: 8 miles from Oakwood theme park and the newly developed Blue Lagoon where there is an indoor water park. Heatherton offers a 'pay as you go' style activity centre with 18 hole par 3 golf course, paintballing, go karts, bumper boats, archery, laser clay shooting. Fishing trips and seal safaris depart regularly from Tenby harbour, as do regular shuttle boats to Caldy island where there is a monastery.

Pampering: The Celtic Haven spa at Lydstep (3 miles) offers great value Spa Days with 7 Treatment Rooms. The Relaxation Room has spectacular views over the cliff-tops to Caldey Island and the ocean beyond.

Sports: sailing, kayaking, banana boat riding, jet ski safaris can all be organised in Tenby and nearby there is horse riding. Bikes can also be hired at Tenby Cycles two doors away.

You will be spoilt for choice with so many places to go and things to do!
