Huge 8 bedroom Victorian house with outstanding sea and harbour views

Overview

Property

Updated: 05-Dec-2016
House in Tenby, Pembrokeshire, Wales - Spacious, Stylish And Comfortable Accommodation In A Wonderful Location

Castle View House is a fine early Victorian town house dating from 1840, with later extensions at the rear. Run as a popular hotel from the 1930s up until 2012, it is now an unusually spacious holiday house. With a high ratio of living space to the number of bedrooms there is plenty of room for everyone to spread out as well as to come together to dine, converse and watch the ever changing seascape.

This is the ideal location for memorable holidays and for celebrating special events at all times of the year. Past guests have included four generation extended families and groups of walkers, artists and Iron Man competitors. The house sleeps up to fourteen in spacious comfort with eight bedrooms (six en-suite) and a top-spec family bathroom. The magnificent first floor drawing room has spectacular views through the vast bay window of the harbour, the castle (of course!) and out to sea. Sociable meals can be taken around the huge antique table in the dining room, and when you can drag yourselves away from the view there is a home cinema room with Sky+ and dvd player (a second tv and dvd in the Sun Room helps avoid any squabbles over viewing choices). The Games Room contains a full sized table football and an upright piano should you wish to accompany matches with a rousing anthem or two. There is wifi throughout the house.

The good-sized garden is enclosed and sunny, with a paved courtyard, lawns, decked seating platform and barbecue area. There is a private car park behind the house, where we rent four allocated spaces for the exclusive use of our guests - a real bonus in Tenby - with additional parking if needed available close by at North Beach car park.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"Castle View House is without doubt a five star holiday house in Tenby, Pembrokeshire, which those of us travelling from London found more easily accessible than Cornwall. The house has wonderful sea views, is extremely comfortable and spacious, has easy access to the beach and town (we hardly used our cars) and Meg, the owner, has provided lots of extra touches to make this a real home from home. We were three generations who found everything we needed (including toys, buckets and spades!) and with glorious late summer sunshine Castle View House really was the perfect venue for a very happy and memorable family holiday."

"What a beautiful house! You have done a brilliant job- congratulations. The views are fabulous, the rooms comfortable and so pretty and your restoration is a real success - sympathetic and inspired. We're so glad we came - would love to come back."

"Thanks Meg for all your help in arranging this lovely weekend. Everyone, especially the children (and the dog!) had a marvellous time. The house was just perfect for us all." .

"The house has been a perfect location for our family gathering, the glorious views, so many wonderful rooms. Four generations aged between 9 months and 94 years, we have all enjoyed every day.... the house is so spacious and comfortable we don't want to leave. Lots of special memories!"

Absolutely perfect

  • 5 of 5

An absolutely beautiful house, small enough to be cosy but big enough to find peace and quiet when needed. This house is well appointed and tastefully furnished. Our group of 6 adults and 5 kids have stayed here 4 times now and will be returning next year. Meg, the owner, is wonderfully accommodating and ready to deal with any issues straight away. Castle View House is truly a home away from home. We love it.

PERFECT

  • 5 of 5

This huge house was perfect for three generations celebrating a 60th birthday. All 11 of us had a wonderful weekend and I don't think that any of us wanted to leave. The house has everything you could think of from a pizza cutter to a baby step for the little ones to reach the sink. The Cinema room was great for the grandchildren when the parents wanted a lay in, the lounge was big enough for all of us to sit in and have some fun with games once the babies were in bed and the view from this room was amazing. Having a group game of hide and seek in this house lasted ages as there were so many places to lose yourself .

The house is situated within easy walking distance of the town but far enough away from the noise that a high street might generate at night.

Meg couldn't have been more accommodating. Unfortunately we were unable to meet but she left very clear instructions and her telephone number so I just text her when I wanted to know something and she came straight back to me.

My 3 year old granddaughter fell in love with this house and is still talking about it now, but I think the final words should come from my 6 year old granddaughter. "This is the best holiday house I have ever been in"

Wonderful holiday home for friends to share

  • 5 of 5

What a super holiday home. Lived up to our expectations.

Fabulous kitchen for keen cooks like us and we loved the huge amount of space and thoughtful provision of little extras in the living space. the garden was gorgeous and we regularly chilled out there after a walk.

The drawing room was beautiful to relax in and the Cinema room next door was great for those who wanted to watch a film or TV

Basically, we all agreed it was just perfect.

Perfect location

  • 5 of 5

Castle View house offered everything needed for a wonderful, multigenerational holiday. The house is well equipped, spacious and thoughtfully designed, with everything needed for catering and relaxation for a mixed group. The teenagers loved the TV room and table football, the dogs loved their wing, Grandma loved watching the world go by through the impressive bay window and everyone loved the easy access to beach and town. We were lucky with the weather, and spent most of our time outside, swimming, sailing, waking and fishing. For rainy days the house provides comfort and plenty of space for everyone to spread out and chill.

Super House

  • 5 of 5

Spent a fantastic week at Castle View House last July to celebrate our golden weddinganniversary with twelve members of our family. Lovely owner who greeted us as we arrived. The house is large and spacious, bedrooms all beautiful, spoilt for choice. The house has everything one would need plus a view to die for. I cannot think that anyone holidaying at this house would be disappointed.

Yes definately recommended for large family holidays so close to the beach shops and restaurants

Great House Superb Location

  • 5 of 5

This is a fantastic house for a large group of people. We were three generations celebrating a special birthday - 8 adults and 8 children. There was plenty of room for everyone and the views across the North Beach and Harbour were breathtaking. Castle View House is exceptionally well equipped with everything one could need, the beds are comfortable, the bedding, china and glassware are of good quality , there are plenty of seating areas, an extra large dining table and chairs and a good sized garden. The four parking spaces to the rear of the property are a great bonus and the town and beaches are within easy walking distance. The children loved being able to pop down to the beach for group games and enjoyed the variety of books and games available in the house. The adults enjoyed the relaxing surroundings , the wonderful panoramic views from the large first floor lounge, the welcome pack and all the space. The owner Meg was very helpful and made us feel welcome in her home. We cannot fault the service we had. We can highly recommend this property - it is certainly a five star holiday home and we hope to return very soon.

Location

Activity and Interests

Coast/Beach:

Castle View House is directly above Tenby's blue flag North Beach, and Castle, Harbour and South beaches are a short walk away. South Beach, with 2 kilometres of golden sand spanning the shoreline from St. Catherine's Island to Giltar Point, allows dogs all year.

Travel:

Tenby is an easy 2 hour drive down the M4 from the Severn Bridge Crossing near Bristol, with motorway and dual carriageway for all but the last few miles. It is approximately 3.5 hours drive from Heathrow, 4 hours from West London, 3.5 hours from Birmingham, 1.5 hours from Cardiff.

Tenby has a train station and trains run from London Paddington via Reading, Bristol, Cardiff and Swansea.

Distances:

3 miles to seaside town of Saundersfoot. 4 miles to Manorbier's beach, 12th Century Church and Castle; 4 miles to Carew Castle; 8 miles to Pembroke and its Castle, birthplace of Henry VII; 11 miles to Pembroke Dock and ferries to Ireland; 12 miles to the NT's beautiful Stackpole Estate; 15 miles to Freshwater West beach, where Shell Cottage of Harry Potter fame was built from scratch; 20 miles to the county town of Haverfordwest; 26 miles to Marloe Sands where Kristen Stewart rode in Snow White.

Further Details:

Shopping: A Tesco Metro supermarket (open from 6am - 10pm) is a 4 minute walk away with a larger Sainsbury's supermarket within the town for a wider choice. Tenby's many small shops include WH Smiths, plenty of surf shops, antique shops, one or two women's fashion stores and an old fashioned sweet shop.

Eating out: a wide selection of cafes and restaurants to suit all pockets and tastes - from excellent fish and chips, classic pub food, Indian restaurants and one or two high quality restaurants including our favourite the Blue Ball.

Out and about: all around Tenby is a walker's and nature lover's paradise. Within 10 miles there are several beautiful coastal locations and beaches such as the world renowned Barafundle Bay at Stackpole Quay, Bosherston Lily Ponds and Broadhaven Beach (both featured on BBCs Secret Britain). From Marloes a short boat trip will take you to Skomer Island and its famous bird colonies including guillemots, razorbills and the comical puffins, surrounded by one of only three marine nature reserves in the UK. Anna Ryder's Wild Welsh Zoo is just 2 miles away.

Activities: 8 miles from Oakwood theme park and the newly developed Blue Lagoon where there is an indoor water park. Heatherton offers a 'pay as you go' style activity centre with 18 hole par 3 golf course, paintballing, go karts, bumper boats, archery, laser clay shooting. Fishing trips and seal safaris depart regularly from Tenby harbour, as do regular shuttle boats to Caldy island where there is a monastery.

Pampering: The Celtic Haven spa at Lydstep (3 miles) offers great value Spa Days with 7 Treatment Rooms. The Relaxation Room has spectacular views over the cliff-tops to Caldey Island and the ocean beyond.

Sports: sailing, kayaking, banana boat riding, jet ski safaris can all be organised in Tenby and nearby there is horse riding. Bikes can also be hired at Tenby Cycles two doors away.

You will be spoilt for choice with so many places to go and things to do!
