Restored farmhouse over two hundred years old with many original features including beams, stonework and fireplaces. It stands in a secluded end of hamlet position with no passing traffic. One kilometre from nearest village shop which sells fresh bread. Thirty minute drive to lovely sandy beaches and picturesque yachting harbours with excellent restaurants. Many places to visit including the Roman town of Saintes with its amphitheatre , set on the Charente river where you can hire small motor boats. Weekly market and brocante fairs in the area.

About the Owner

We live in Hampshire and as now are semi-retired are able to visit our home in the Charente-Maritime when grand parental duties allow! We have enjoyed renovating the property over the years and always find another project to enjoy.

The house is fantastic-really tastefully renovated with a lovely interior and lots of personal touches. We loved the little hamlet in which it is set and our children enjoyed seeing the local farm animals and pets. The property would really suit an extended family, with the separate accomodation in the attached barn and would be very comfortable for eight people. We didn't want to leave. My husband did a french exchange starting when he was twelve years old with a family from Paris who took their annual holiday in August (!) in nearby Royan. He was therefore familiar with the area and was keen to get a holiday home there when the opportunity arose. Its very accessible from the UK and is in a quiet country hamlet with friendly neighbours but still is straightforward to get to Bordeaux , Saintes or La Rochelle if one hankers for a bit more "life".

Nearest Airport : la rochelle or bordeaux equidistant at 95 Kilometres Nearest Barpub : pons at 10 Kilometres Nearest Ferry : royan/verdon at 30 Kilometres Nearest Train : pons at 10 Kilometres Nearest Motorway : A10 at 12 Kilometres Nearest Ski : pyrennes at 150 Kilometres Nearest Beach : meschers at 28 Kilometres Car: necessary


10 miles to Mortagne, a very pretty port with restaurants.

12 miles to Meschers , fishing port with restaurants and also pretty cove beaches. A little further at St George de Didonne and Royan are busier beaches. About 30 miles away, north of Royan, is the Cote Sauvage with lovely unspoilt huge sandy beaches but with few facilities.


La Rochelle and Bordeaux airports both about an hours drive away. Calais about 7 hours drive. The use of a car is essential.


Champagnolles 1km, Gemozac 8km, Pons 8km, Saintes 15km, Bordeaux 95km. Cognac 25km

Further Details:

Weekly market in Pons And Gemozac. Larger monthly market in Gemozac, but lots of markets and brocantes all over the region.

Saintes has many sites of historical and architectural interest and some excellent restaurants and shops.

A Ferry runs from Royan to the Medoc on the other side of the estuary. Then take the wine route past all the well known Bordeaux vineyards and visit a chateau for a guided tour and a sample ! End in Bordeaux, have dinner and take the motorway back (approx 1hr)

For swimming there is a good outdoor pool in Gemozac (10 minutes) and at the Antilles in Jonzac (30 minutes) is a fun indoor pool with wave machine for the kids and a spa for the others!! Now a large overground pool in secluded position has been added.

Visit Cognac and have a tour of a distillery....in fact although the house is in a quiet location there are too many attractions and places of interest to mention but we have a drawer full of tourist brochures!

If there is an unavoidable cancellation and we can re-let for that period we will happily refund your deposit. A returnable deposit of £200 is payable at the same time as balance to cover accidental damage to or at the property, of course we accept the occasional broken cup/glass as part of living.

  • Notes on accommodation: In the newly converted stylish barn conversion there is another sitting/dining area which leads to the staircase to bedroom 4 on the mezzanine floor. Included in this area is bathroom 1, wc, and Utility. In the utility is a fridge, kettle, microwave and washing machine. This area has its own entrance and so is ideal for friends, grandparents etc. The property is exclusively yours on rental. Outside: Set in a large garden which is mainly grass with mature fruit trees. The patio runs along the front of the house and wraps around the side where there is an electric blind. This area benefits from tremendous sunsets and so is lovely for evening dining. There is a table with 8 chairs (More chairs are available) 4 good sun loungers and barbecue. The garden opens directly onto open fields of sunflowers and vineyards. Large overground swimming pool. Utility Room: Washing machine, microwave, fridge, kettle and sink Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen are supplied. There is a change supplied.
