About Tim Pickles

I arrived at Loch Eck taking up Log Cabin accommodation totally by accident back in 1997 and simply fell in love with the area! As a result by and extensively updating this Log Cabin.

Tim Pickles purchased this cabin in 1998

Guestbook comments from the owner

Great stay, good base to explore the area from! Food at Whistlefield Inn great, very friendly people made us very welcome. Could never get fed up of this type of countryside and fantastic views. Obviously quite a romantic place too - he proposed and I said yes!

Always love it up here, the weather has been lovely all week, calm, dry and sunny, good for the wonderful views. Loved this location, it's an excellent base for the wonderful forest walks around here. Can't wait to come back - it's a haven.

Ps the food in the Inn is great Shelli and Clive

Lovely weekend break. Weather very kind. Lodge comfortable and clean. Thankyou for the delicious cake! Lovely food at the Coylet Inn and the George at Inverary worth a drive. Great weekend magical walking - especially Pucks Glen. Will be back soon!

Great Cabin - lovely views

  • 5 of 5

Yes better than expected and great value too. Owner and caretaker very helpful before and during the let, the fruit loaf and other extras very appreciated. The whistlefield Inn is open again, pucks glen and the benmore gardens are a must. Will definitely return and recommend, though got lucky this time with late availability so book in advance next time.

lovely retreat

  • 5 of 5

Great log cabin. Everything you need for your stay. Condiments and cleaning products in the cabin. Iron and ironing board. Sky tv channels. Even a home baked cake on your arrival and your cabin all warm and cosy for you. Only thing you need is your food and towels. . Great views, great walks for the dogs . Great correspondence with owner and the lovely people who look after the cabin Elspeth and Ian are fab. Nothing is a bother to them , they are always there for you and made us feel very welcome. Whistlefield inn hotel only a few steps away from cabin for food and drinks. Dunoon is only about 20 mins drive away. Various places of interest right on your doorstep. Will most certainly return again soon. Bring a torch if going out at night as its quite dark. We had lovely meals made in our cabin and enjoyed the quiet peacefull setting . Felt really private and safe.

our opinion

  • 2 of 5

Whilst pleased with the location of the cabin, we were disappointed with the standard of furnishings and cleanliness. The kitchen surfaces were dirty as was the fridge and microwave. The toaster was broken and the freezer compartment in the fridge was missing its door. Surfaces elsewhere were dusty and drawer interiors dirty. The foam pad on the double bed was in very poor condition so that it was uncomfortable to share. We used it as a single bed and one of us slept on the floor. Both chests of drawers were in poor condition so that the drawers stuck. We couldn't use them. The bedding in the main bedroom was faded and stained. The gate on the deck was missing so that our dog escaped unless tied up all the time. We rang the owner who seemed surprised and apologetic. He sent his cleaning lady to replace the toaster and bedding. Looking at the photos on the website again, the one of the breakfast bar with black stools is not taken in this cabin. A very disappointing standard of accomodation and not what we expected having used Owners Direct before.

Owner's Response: Hello Rachel, Thankyou so much for your feedback, Im terribly sorry to learn the bed mattress was so uncomfortable for you both. This is full memory foam Mattress normally very well received, however had only mentioned this during you stay I could have either turned or swapped it for you, or the double bed settee in the sitting room could have been utilised. I was also not aware of the problem with the icebox door in Fridge, or the Decking gate so I unfortunately could not immediately attend to these during your stay either. Once again I do apologize for these inconveniences, my mission is to always be approachable and provide what I pledge. I can only ask that I be given at least 1 chance during anyones stay to improve things. Thank you again Tim Pickles
