About the property

2 bed Cottage in Abbotsham, Nr Bideford, Devon - Family Friendly but Oozes Quality for a Real Treat with Fabulous Panoramic Sea Views

This traditional Longhouse is full of charm and character. Completely modernised with great attention to detail but with climbing rose by the door, thick walls and stone fire place with a cosy wood burner – this is exactly what a cottage in the country should be!

Sleeps 4-6 in 2 bedrooms. Perfect for a family break, for two couples or even as a romantic escape of a single couple. Book with Southclay (sleeps 10-12) ref.E1158 or independently.

With beautiful bathrooms, comfy beds, well equipped kitchen and lots of little extras even the most demanding guests may be surprised to find, The Annex will be a treat whatever the weather, Summer or Winter.

Visitors will enjoy spectacular sunsets over the coast from the cottage and the hot tub in the garden, with shared tennis court and heated swimming pool (April-October) a stay here can be as active or relaxing as you choose. The A39 Atlantic Highway is easily accessible making this a convenient base for exploring the numerous rocky shores or the famous sandy surfing beaches and rural North Devon and North Cornwall. Enjoy quaint harbours, local visitor attractions or the coastal footpaths and cycle tracks. But on the edge of a delightful village, only 2 minutes walk to the thatched pub, church, village playing fields and the famous tourist attractions, The Big Sheep and The Ultimate High on the other side of the village you may decide not to get back in your car all holiday.

About Jacquie Willoughby

I was born a farmer's daughter and grew up in the village of Abbotsham. Having moved away, I was delighted to have the opportunity to come back and bring up my children here. I have three grown up girls, now 22, 24 and 26, who are mostly away now but my mum and my brother and two step children live close by and most of the rest of my relations are buried in the local church yard! I love living in North Devon and particularly in this wonderful village. It means we know everyone in Abbotsham, we have a great support network and in return we are passionate about supporting the local rural and business community. If you need any introductions or have any questions about where to go and what to do I am sure I will be able to help you.

Jacquie Willoughby purchased this cottage in 1992

Why Jacquie Willoughby chose Bideford

This house is in a fabulous location on the edge of the village with spectacular views over open countryside. We restored the house 20 years ago when we had a chance to move back to the village I was born in, a decision I will never regret. The house next door (Southclay) we built ourselves when the building plots came up for sale to protect our view by building a sunken tennis court rather than an extra 3-bed house! An even better decision - confirmed with every sunset. The Annex is actually on the end of our family home, adjacent to Southclay. Recently converted (the barn end of a Devon longhouse) it is a charming, stone, character cottage with its own hot tub. We still live in the other end of the house though my husband and I rather rattle around now the children have flown.

What makes this cottage unique

An exceptionally friendly village with a great community spirit, good local pub, church, chapel, village school and community play area and the Big Sheep tourist attraction at the bottom of the hill... Abbotsham has something for everyone with coastal and rural views to definitely write home about.

It is convenient to the main A39 highway (1 minute's drive) so excellent for cutting journey times and as a base for exploring the rest of North Devon yet from Southclay you would never believe a main road was nearby. It has only village traffic noise, a peaceful rural aspect and beautiful uninterrupted sea views.

Simply stunning.

  • 5 of 5

We are a family of 5 who loved staying here for our Autumn half term week. After the mix up of nearly losing this accommodation regarding non-payment to the owner when I reserved it. 'Home Away' didn't seem to make it clear enough that the accommodation price is not taken by them with their separate service charge when booking. Once sorted with the owner at the last minute and on arrival, we definitely made time for the swimming pool, tennis courts and the hot tub inbetween exploring as much of the local area as we could within the 3 to 4 days stay. Having visited North Devon for so many years on different holidays we tried to go to places that we hadn't seen before. And also to places that we really love to go to every time we are in Devon. Bucks Mill bay, Ilfracombe, Westward Ho! Appledore and Braunton are easily visited by car. We were going to visit the "Milky Way" but as the weather was so good we didn't want to be mainly indoors for a day. There were so many other places we didn't get time to visit though, ran out of time! The "Thatched Inn" pub in Abbotsham village (a walk down the road) was fantastically decorated for Hallowe'en and good full plates of food were served, but pricey for 5 of us to eat and drink.

The accommodation itself was spotless, very comfortable and the decor was wonderful, especially the wet room downstairs and the huge bedroom with ensuite upstairs were great for our 3 teenagers. The kitchen was small but fully stocked with crockery and cutlery, etc. Jacqui, the owner was so helpful with the few things we asked for or about. The views from the back garden were stunning. Already recommending to family and friends. But not too much that we can't book to go back another time ourselves! The other accommodation next door looked incredible as well and accommodated more people, great for accommodating bigger groups of family & friends. What a great holiday we had! Thank You.

Perfect

  • 5 of 5

We loved The Annex, it had everything a family of 4 needed. Both our children loved the pool and the jacuzzi. Jacquie and Steve were the perfect hosts. Highly recommend The Pig On The Hill for Sunday lunch (book in advance).

Fantastic Holiday

  • 5 of 5

Fantastic cottage in a beautiful part of North Devon. The cottage was spotlessly clean on arrival and every home comfort was catered for. We certainly made use of the pool and hot tub and even had a few games of tennis!

We would certainly recommend this holiday home to anyone wanting a luxurious break away. Owners very helpful and only next door if you require anything.

Overall a first class holiday experience. We shall be returning.

Lovely week in Devon

  • 5 of 5

The Annex is gorgeous - 5 of us stayed there during half term. The property was beautifully clean and a proper home from home, we were 3 adults and 2 teenagers - there was ample space for all of us! We made great use of the pool , hot tub and tennis courts which were a real bonus. We spent most of our time at the beach so did not look round Bideford too much so can't really comment on that but we did eat at the local pub and that was great. Jacquie the owner is lovely and on hand if you need her ....all in all we had a great weak.
