Paxdene is a stylish home arranged over 4 floors with four spacious bedrooms. It is the perfect choice for your family holiday. Furnished with a contemporary coastal theme, with everything you need for an enjoyable holiday away, Paxdene is a real home from home and is an ideal base for 1 or 2 families to explore Salcombe and the South Hams. The property offers a large modern kitchen/breakfast room with ample dining for up to 10, with access straight out onto a raised deck overlooking the garden. Below the house is a large utility room perfect to store all your beach and boating items, surfboards, bikes etc. The sitting area is a lovely light room with oak flooring and plenty of seating. The first floor has a large double bedroom with en-suite shower room, a double bunk rooms and a family bathroom. To the second floor there is the master double bedroom with en-suite shower room and a good-sized single room with pull out trundle bed. There is parking for 1 car at the rear.

Notes on accommodation: To the first floor there is a large double bedroom with window looking out towards the Salcombe Estuary, which benefits from a contemporary en-suite shower room. There is a further spacious bedroom at the front with 2 sets of bunk-beds, a flat-screen tv with Freeview, dvd and Wii console, perfect for keeping the children entertained. There is a family bathroom with a shower fitted over the bath. To the second floor there is the master double bedroom with French doors enjoying lovely views over the surrounding hillsides and Salcombe Estuary, which has a flat screen tv/dvd, stereo, iPod docking station and an en-suite shower room. Finally there is a good-sized single room with pull out trundle bed. Outside: Paxdene has a spacious garden with a flat lawn area, and a raised deck area off the dining area. There is a Weber barbecue on the deck. Utility Room: Large utility room perfect to store all your beach and boating items, surfboards, bikes etc, with washing machine, tumble dryer, a clothes-maid ceiling airer plus an extra fridge and fridge/freezer. There is also a table football table. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen are not included. Other: There is ample dining for up to 10, with access straight out onto a raised deck overlooking the garden.

Well thought out house, with great accommodation, plenty of bathrooms and a fabulous basement for all your beach kit. Masses of fridge and freezer space for food and booze.

Our party consisted of my wife and myself, our son and daughter in law and their three young children - all under 3. The property was ideal for our stay: it was clean and well maintained and everything was as per listing description. The facilities make Paxdene very suitable for 2 families sharing.

There is a downhill 10 minute walk to the sea, which we enjoyed but would not recommend for the disabled! We found lots of interesting shops and restaurants in Salcombe and both my wife and I and our son and daughter in law managed an evening meal out during our stay. We went to different restaurants (55 and the Boatswains Brasserie) and both provided a very enjoyable meal. We also went to Dartmouth and Agatha Christie's house during our stay, both of which are well worth a visit.

An unexpected bonus was the discovery that there is a play park approximately a quarter of a mile from the house, which is ideal for young children to let off steam. Finally, we were blessed with dry and mild weather throughout our stay, which made for a very enjoyable holiday.

Location

Coast/Beach:

The nearest beach to Paxdene is Northsands, just a 15 minute walk downhill. This lovely sandy beach is perfect for children. Also close by are the beaches of East Portlemouth accessible from Salcombe via passenger ferry. Our favourite is Mill Bay, a gorgeous sheltered beach situated in the mouth of the Salcombe estuary. Mill Bay is MCS recommended for it's high quality water standards, and as well as plenty of golden sand Mill Bay beach has rock pools and safe bathing for families.

Travel:

Nearest airports - Exeter and Plymouth - approx 1 hour drive, Bristol - approx 2 hours drive.

Nearest train station - Totnes - Approx 45-minute drive - fast train to London = 2 hours 45 minutes.

Nearest Port - Plymouth - Approx 45-minute drive with regular ferries to Roscoff in France, Cork in Ireland and Santander in Northern Spain (Brittany Ferries).

Distances:

Kingsbridge - 10 min drive

Slapton Sands - 20 min drive

Blackpool Sands - 25 min drive

Dartmouth - 25 min drive

Totnes - 35 min drive

Dartmoor - 45 min drive

Further Details:

The is a local Spar shop just 1 minute away from Paxdene stocking all the basics required. All the supermarkets deliver to Salcombe. In the town there are deli and specialists shops, a Lloyds bank and plenty of restaurants.
