About the Owner

My husband and I live in North Yorkshire but having been born and educated in Kirkcudbright, I have a deep love for Galloway. Ever since leaving Kirkcudbright to continue my education, I have been a frequent visitor to the area to meet friends and family and soak up the magic of the culture.

Owner's Response: I'm so pleased that you enjoyed your stay, not just in the cottage but also in Dumfries and Galloway. You obviously managed a big number of different activities. Thank you very much for leaving the cottage so spick and span. I wondered at first if anyone had been there! Thank you for your review and your very positive comments. Alison

A little gem.

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is a little gem. Perfect position being in Twynholm. It really did have everything we needed. I don't know how everything fitted into that little kitchen but it worked and we loved it. Everything was very clean and tidy and the beds were really comfortable. Exactly what we wanted for our little family. Attention to detail was great, e.g. Clock on bedside table and lamps in good positions. Great village shop opposite. Brilliant contact with owner in terms of booking and answering questions.

Nothing to criticise. We will be back soon!

Home away from home.

Our stay was made even more wonderful with lovely weather. The cottage was clean, cosy and had all the essentials and more. The area is amazing with lots to see and do. Myself and my husband are already looking to book again. This cottage is a little gem and exceptionally good value for money.

Absolutely gorgeous cottage me and my friends had an amazing time there. the cottage was warm for us arriving with the heating very thoughtfully turned set for our arrival. fresh flowers for our stay was an adorable touch and the decor was beautiful. the cottage itself is wonderfully equipped with everything you need and the location is incredible. very close to some lovely bays and coastal towns. some great walks near by.

would very highly recommend this cottage for a holiday any time of year, we went in February and we weren't stuck for things to do. even made use of a rather lovely film collection in the evenings.

thank you for a lovely time

Lovely, sweet, well-kept cottage

  • 5 of 5

My parents and I had a lovely stay here in this cosy, clean and well-kept cottage. The cottage was really well equipped with all we could need and the rooms were very comfortable. The decor modern and bright, I loved the artwork around the place. Was well placed for the coast and beautiful surrounding area. We felt very at home and relaxed, I can't wait to stay again!! Chocies and fresh flowers were most welcome, thank-you for a great stay :-) xx

Cosy cottage for enjoyable vacation

  • 5 of 5

Our family of three, husband, wife and 24 year old son, really enjoyed our stay at Twynholm Cottage. The two bedrooms are of a good size and the bed in the single bedroom is full adult size. The cottage is "cosy" but because careful attention has been provided to layout, furnishing specification and equipment all available space is very well utilised and all equipment & fixtures are of excellent quality. Kitchen has outstanding range of items for its size and everything works really well - we self-catered by choice for six of the seven days. The bathroom and bath/shower facilities are sufficient, especially when you realise that there is an elastic extension line for fixing to a hook beyond the far end of the shower curtain to extend its "coverage.

The lounge and TV area is very comfortable and there is a gas fire for taking any residual chill away on a late summer evening, plus a full central heating service across the property which works very well if needed. Hot water is instantaneous and supplied from the modern boiler in the kitchen. Entrance lobby complete with coat hooks provides an excellent storage area for walking boots, sticks, coats, brollies etcetera avoiding the need to traipse mud and dirt into the property. External facilities including seating areas are nicely appointed and the overall setting of the cottage surprisingly peaceful given its developed small village context. Nearest shop is literally seconds away with helpful and friendly owners & hotel/pub restaurant facilities are a short stroll away. Twynholm village provides an excellent location for touring Dumfries and Galloway both for scenic touring and coastal and hillside walking. Car recommended.

From the Owner

Twynholm is a peaceful village but with a very active community where the local people always welcome us warmly. We make frequent trips to Twynholm where we can relax away from the stresses and strains of everyday life and catch up with friends in the area. It's such a pleasure to be able to walk from the cottage or drive only a short distance to enjoy the wonderful Galloway landscape and bird life. We love cooking and find the great variety of locally sourced foods a real inspiration.

Within a short distance from the cottage there's a village shop and two hotels and, at less than a mile, a fabulous chocolate factory. The patio at the cottage is a real sun trap, perfect for morning coffee, while the little garden with the afternoon and evening sun is the perfect place to end the day.
