About the property

Apartment in Collioure, Pyrenees Orientales, Languedoc Roussillon, France - Breathtaking Location 3 Minutes From Water's Edge,

This is a newly purchased apartment which has been luxuriously upgraded with marble, limestone & hardwood floors, luxury kitchen, bathroom and furniture. The apartment has been refurbished as a home, for our family, we have 2 teenage boys. We have spent the last 3 summers in the area and we love the area, particularly the coves for snorkelling. Both the living room and bedroom have large sliding doors, each with a view of the cove and the living room has the Collioure bell tower, Both rooms are light and airy, with the sun in the afternoon and sunset in the evening. There is a small 'balcony' but we have made an internal sitting area which will be more private and comfortable. Collioure is an all year round resort with a wonderful climate. Perfect for couples or families of 4 who love the area, perfect to relax and enjoy.

The 2 single beds pull out of the white unit on the left of the table, to form bunk beds - look on the photo which shows the washing machine and the view to the kitchen - it is an italian system very expensive with full size single beds - I have 2 boys 19 and 23 and they use them - no problem- ther is a ladder which must be used to support the upper bed and legs which drop down for the bottom bed.

It is in the living room.

There is a private parking space in the underground car park and parking on the one way system.

About Angela Would

We are a family of four, we have 2 boys aged 21 and 17. We live in a cottage in the New Forest which we restored over 3 years and have subsequently extended.

We both had careers but enjoyed restoring our home so much that we carried on developing in the UK and renting out properties. It is now our means of income and way of life. Normandy was a challenge but worth it. The chalet in Switzerland was bought as a result of repeatedly visiting the same village year after year and wanting to be independent of rentals. Collioure was again the result of loving an area and our later years when we may enjoy the mild climate and some sunny weather... but we have just bought another property with a pool 1 hour inland from Collioure...In the meantime we want others to share our homes in our absence.

Angela Would purchased this apartment in 2012

Why Angela Would chose Collioure

Our main priority was to find somewhere with a view, on a cove and ideally with the sun at some point. This time we thought we would choose an apartment for ease of maintenance and ready to go. The apartment not only has views of the the coast, sea and the landmark bell tower of Collioure during the day in the evening it has the sunset, the twinkling lights of Collioure and the lights from the boats that anchor in and around the bay.

There is no road between the appartment and the beach, you can literally walk out of the cellar door to the beach, carrying the sun lounger, canoe, fishing rod or lunch. Even better is that if you fancy a drink/ice cream/need the loo you can just nip back to your own facilitities - Lidl priced ice cream/drinks and a clean toilet - perfect.

What makes this apartment unique

The close proximity to the waters edge - the convenience of walking down to the cove, without crossing a road, nothing in front of you, bliss.

We would have liked a balcony, terrace or garden, but in hindsight we have realised that these options were not very private, whereas our internal terrace is perfect and away from prying eyes.

We can walk everywhere and not worry about parking and queues - to be able to walk to Lidl is great - it could have been any supermarket it is the proximity which is great.

We can also walk in the hill behind towards Collioure, or venture to Port Vendres along the coastal path.

Restaurants are within walking distance and it is a lovely coastal walk. Fresh fish can be bought direct from the boat on the quayside at 4ish each day and wine shops en route.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Not going to put any good comments on O D website as it will be too popular and we won't be able to get it! In fact may put an entry saying what a dump it is!22/9/13

Angela C'est magnifique.Your attention to detail is breathtaking. Panorama to die for. Virginie is a complete delight. We are thoroughly relaxed now . 9/12

6th October 2012 - We have really enjoyed being in the appartment and waking up to the sea view was just magic...You have obviously spent a great deal of time and money on making it as it is and we did wonder how you dare let complete strangers into it.

23rd march 13 Sitting here looking at the sea view after excellent meet and greet from Virginie. Even in my tired state I can appreciate the beauty of this. Thanks Angela.Wow!

thank you for a fantastic week in your marvellous appartment. We had 6 days of sunshine bookended by Tramontane wind. We must congratulate you on the standard of accommodation in particular the presence of a sharp knife for cooking!

Notes on accommodation: The apartment which has been luxuriously upgraded with marble, limestone & hardwood floors, luxury kitchen, bathroom and furniture. All works have been carried out between February and August 2012. The apartment has been refurbished as a home, for our family, we have 2 teenage boys. We have spent the last 3 summers in the area and we love the area, particularly the waters for snorkelling. Both the living room and bedroom have large sliding doors, each with a view of the cove. the living room has the Collioure bell tower as well it is light and airy, with the sun in the afternoon and sunset in the evening. There is a 'balcony' but it is small, we have made an internal sitting area which is more private and comfortable. The windows open fully so it is perfect for sunbathing, breakfast, coffee or the inevitable glass of wine. The view is amazing all year round providing a wonderful back drop in any weather. Outside: There is a small balcony but the sea is 40 steps away from the door in the cellar. There is a small storage room in the cellar which will house useful items for the beach and water which can be easily carried for the 2 minute walk to the beach, with no road to cross. Family can be on the beach and they can be called/waved to from the 'balcony' for lunch/dinner! Equally lunch or dinner can be taken down to the beach/rocks. Indeed fish caught in the cove could be cooked there and then - I have seen people swimming there in February and April - in swimming costumes and wetsuits. Fishing can be enjoyed in all weathers. There is secure parking which is under cover and above ground. There is a rubbish container and recycling at the entrance to Les Batteries which is handy en route to Lidl for the croissants in the morning. Utility Room: Iron and ironing board in cupboard Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bed linen and bath towels are included. Tea towels and all cleaning equipment provided. Apartment is cleaned only on changeover day. Other: There is a small storage room in the cellar which will house useful items for the beach which can be easily carried for the 2 minute walk to the beach, with no road to cross. The apartment has a secure main entrance and an inner door to flat.

Relaxing beyond belief

  • 5 of 5

The apartment was well-equipped, comfortable and just right for two people. The photo does not do it justice. We were met on time by Bruno who explained everything to us. Two towns are within easy walking distance with a wide variety of restaurants catering for all tastes. There is a supermarket close by so stocking up on a few bits is easy but be warned it didn't open on a Sunday but others close by did. Anyone who wants home from home comforts yet to get away from normal day to day living should spend time here - falling asleep to the gentle sound of waves lapping will have you relaxed within a day.

Owner's Response: i am pleased you had a lovely time, i agree with everything you say. Lidl, which is 'close' to the appartment is open on a sunday morning during the high season, but yes there are other options not too far away the rest of the year and within walking distance. I would love to be there now! angela

We have been to collioure a few times staying mostly in hotels. This year we decided to return and selected this apartment.

We arrived a little stressed following travel disruption due to a strike. The stress very quickly disappeared when Bruno opened the door to the apartment. WOW......what a view. We very quickly settled in and the next days just flew by. My daily walk along the Mediterranean with it's changing colours to Lidl for croissant's will be missed.

The position of the apartment allowed for us to explore Port Vendres more than in the past and found that we really liked it. We ate many meals there. The apartment itself lacks for nothing. Every detail has been thought about to make you not want to leave. Thanks very much to Bruno for being so friendly. And thank you to Angela and Eugenie for your very high standards and allowing us to rent your apartment. I know we will be back. Maggie and Peter Cowley from Staffordshire.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review, I am pleased you had such a pleasant time. We too tend to favour Port Vendres for evening meals. the meals are more reasonably priced, it is frequented by locals aswell as tourists and we like the 'marina' location. The location is great for walking along the coastal path , to either Collioure or port vendres and lidl is great for reasonably priced morning croissants Reading the review makes me want to head off there now.

The perfect beach retreat within easy reach of lots of other places

Second visit here. Well planned, beautifully maintained apartment.

With a glorious view over to Collioure, a great beach, and snorkels and a kayake to borrow, what else could you want!

Owner's Response: I am pleased your second trip was equally enjoyable, we still love it each time we are able to go, whatever the time of year. Je area has such a holiday feel about it without being too overdeveloped and too over commercial, long may it stay that way. thank you for taking the time to respond angela

Great apartment! Great location! A very well appointed apartment. Practically on the beach. Your own swimming/snorkelling cove. Amazing views of the sunset over Collioure. Tranquility but with a little bit of bustle in Collioure when you want it. Loads to do in the area. I may regret an over zealous review - because I want to go back again...and again.....

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to write the review, it is appreciated. I cannot disagree with the comments, it is a great location and slightly off season is when I prefer, even in the winter/late autumn and spring time, as it is a little more relaxed. Many people return year on year, it is just convenient, with shops, cafes and restaurants within a short stroll. The beach and water are on your doorstep and if the weather is favourable it is fantastic. Thanks angela

There are 40 steps to water's edge of the closest cove from the cellar door, there are 2 other coves at 5 and 10 minutes walk. The cove near the apartment has a sandy shallow shore for children, There are rocks and rock pools. Swimming, snorkelling and fishing are possible. There are 2 canoes for guests t use at their own 'risk'.

Port Vendres

We are conveniently placed for Lidl which is just along the road , turn left outside the entrance and it is about 200 metres on your left. They bake bread all day, it is amazingly cheap, but you have to get used to their stock levels and queues at tills –they do accept ‘cards’.There are plenty of shops in Port Vendres, there are many boulangeries , butchers, fish shop and pharmacies. There is a Super U in Port Vendres and a Dia supermarket on the outskirts near the Bricomarche. There is a market on a Saturday morning in Port Vendres on the car park behind the Art gallery, it is more for locals than tourists, but is nevertheless interesting. There is a boat which sells its catch at around 4pm on the quayside, near the excursion booths. There is also a fish market, where there is a fresh fish counter and a large shop which also shellfish products and other fish produce, follow the road round to the ‘sea entrance of Port Vendres’ – it looks commercial but enter through the gates and follow the buildings around and it is on your right.

Port Vendres is less touristy and as such their prices are not as inflated as Collioure for some things. There are many restaurants along the water’s edge which I am told are very good. The tourist office is in the corner near the small car park next to the marina .

There is a Carrefour Express as you walk into Collioure, take the road up to the roundabout, rather than walk around the walls. There are a couple of boulangeries as you walk in to the ‘Faubourg’ area, a pharmacie and a small ‘epicerie’. In Collioure old town the shops are small, many catering for tourists. The narrow, winding alleyways are a lovely area to wander around when you are fed up of the beach. There is a market on Wednesday and Sunday morning there is a mix of stalls, but again it is mainly targeting the tourists, there is a mix of French, Catalan and Spanish stalls –again an interesting place to wander around.

Collioure has a wealth of restaurants along the water’s edge and in the alleyways. We have sampled some, but the dishes certainly look delicious.

Larger supermarkets – if you want to go larger, there is a Hyper Intermarche on the edge of Argeles near a Mc Donalds, it is the junction after St Andre and the motorway sign to Le Boulou.

Look out for local producers who often have roadside stands selling locally grown, apricots, nectarines, peaches and melons.

Perpignan Airport is 30 km away and some use Girona or Carcassonne. Car hire is not necessary as there is a rail link to Collioure, taxis and a 1 Euro bus operates in the area.

We drive to Collioure and have used Ouistreham (Caen) around 12 hours with stops, and Bilbao, around 7 hours with stops

AIRPORT - Perpignan airport: 30 Km

TRAIN - Collioure Station: 2 km

MOTORWAY - A9: 30 m

There is a secure covered parking area as well as an above ground car park.

Collioure centre is 13 minutes walk away and Port Vendres is 10 minutes walk.

Argeles sur Mer is approximately 4 km away. Banyuls sur Mer is also around 5 km away.

There are vineyards, olive groves and fruit growers inland to visit. There are many local sites to be seen, but the focus has to be on Collioure itself and the coastline.

Many drive off to Barcelona, Figueres, Carcassone, the Pyrenees details are all at the apartment.

Further Details:

There is a Lidl just along the road from the apartment which bakes bread and croissants on site and Collioure is only a 13 minute walk away which has a small Carrefour 'city'. The coastal walk to the excellent restaurants and bars in Collioure and Port Vendres are well lit with pavements.

Collioure is beautiful, the town has a network of small winding 'alleyways' full of all sorts of shops, including art galleries, 'Celliers' for wine tasting, biscuit makers, chic boutiques, restaurants, to name but a few.

There is a mix of french and Spanish influence which is very noticeable in the weekly markets, there is even a bull ring in Collioure. In the summer fruit such as melons, peaches and nectarines can be purchased direct from the growers as can olive oil, wine and even vinegar. Fish can be purchased fresh from the fishermen in Port Vendres. Collioure and the surrounding area is popular all year round due to its wonderful mild climate.

Both directions have everything that you may need be it a pharmacy, cash point, post office, a whole range of shops.
