The West Cottage is a luxurious holiday cottage in the Scottish Borders. It is located at the West Gate of the grounds of Wedderburn Castle and was recently re-built to form a spacious self-catering property. The original fabric of the building, which dates from around 1820, has been retained while a contemporary element has now been added. It has been finished to the highest standard of comfort and includes Canadian pitch pine floorboards and locally-quarried flagstones throughout. The oldest part of the building now forms a double-height kitchen and sitting room area with original wooden beams, an oversized stone fireplace and wood-fired stove. A glazed sun-room looks across surrounding lawns and leads to the newly-created bedroom wing. Sleeps six: two king size double rooms; one twin room; three modern, stylishly appointed bathrooms with L'Occitane toiletries. The cottage has Wi-fi.
The cottages and lodges at Wedderburn Castle are set in the Berwickshire countryside, a mile from Duns. All have recently been renovated and now include chic modern bathrooms and kitchens, stylish decor and comfortable sitting rooms with log-burning stoves. Properties include Garden Cottage, a stylish contemporary property for two; Keepers Cottage, a well-appointed cottage for four to six and West Lodge, a recently-rebuilt historic property for six. All properties have been sympathetically restored and retain many charming period features. Keepers Cottage and West Lodge are particularly suitable for family and group holidays, while Garden Cottage provides a romantic getaway and is also suitable for couples with babies or toddlers. Kitchens feature an extensive range of kitchenware, ceramic hobs, microwaves, washing machines, dishwashers and everything you need for a relaxing holiday. Or there are also some great pubs and restaurants in the area if you would rather not cook!
Blue Sky Cottages offers a collection of stylish historic holiday cottages and large holiday houses in the Scottish Borders. Properties range from stables cottages and renovated gate lodges to a historic tower house and a castle. Blue Sky Cottages has now been involved in the holiday rentals business for 15 years.

Berwickshire is an ideal location to explore the best of the Scottish Borders and North Northumberland. It is also just an hour from Edinburgh. Our properties are easily accessed from Berwick-upon-Tweed station which is on the East Coast mainline and around three and a half hours from London and 40 minutes from Edinburgh by train. The closest airports are Edinburgh and Newcastle which are both around 90 minutes drive.
Our properties combine the traditional features of the buildings with newly-renovated interiors. They are furnished in a contemporary style, but with country-cottage elements such as dressed stone fireplaces, wooden floorboards made from trees on the Wedderburn estate that have fallen in storms and log-burning stoves. Kitchens are fully-equipped to allow for everything you might have at home; bathrooms offer 24-hour hot water, fluffy towels and luxurious L'Occitane toiletries. Wide-screen televisions and comfortable sofas provide relaxing living areas. The properties all have gardens and are surrounded by mature parkland which allows for rural walks. There are a host of attractions around, ranging from golf to children's soft play, swimming pools and beaches.

Well located and easy to find, the lodge had plenty of space to find peace and solitude or join the company of friends. Everything we required was included and clear instructions left which answered any questions. It was a lovely property, clean and well maintained and was ideal for us having en suite bathrooms as we were a mix of family and friends.
I would recommend booking well in advance for the restaurants mentioned in the lodge brochure as we tried several and they were always fully booked, so had to resort to the nearby supermarket, when we would rather have enjoyed a meal out!
It was ideally located being central to both coastal and inland attractions. Due to this many places could be visited each day, you just need to head in one direction, north, south, east or west and there is plenty to do from coastal walks to castles and towns. The headland walk at St. Abbs was breathtaking and a way to burn off a substantial lunch taken in the School Room cafe. Kelso was a fascinating town to visit, with many small individual shops, the castle and abbey, plus riverside walks.
This property was a delight, and I am loath to recommend it in case I am able to return, but find it fully booked! So yes, I fully recommend the property to others.
