Overview

About the property

Recently refurbished, fully equipped, 4 bed (sleeps 8), 2 lounges, 2 bathrooms

North Ward Cottage is on the Bere Peninsula cut off from the crowds by the River Tamar on one side and the crystal clear River Tavy on the other. There is a criss-crossed of paths to allow you to explore the Peninsula. Near by Tavistock is a thriving market town with swimming pool, tennis courts, putting greens, arts cinema etc. Dartmoor, good golf courses, riding, fishing, biking etc are within easy reach as are north or south Cornish beaches. But basically North Ward Cottage and its immediate surroundings are so lovely you should not need to go far. In 2010 North Ward Cottage was extended and completely refurbished to become low carbon. Changes have included increased insulation, under-floor heating, new double-glazed windows and doors and using a heat pump to heat the cottage.

About Anthea Gordon

Family-owned holiday cottage, bought at auction in 1971 and twice extended and refurbished. It is well-used throughout the year by the family, and so we make it as homely as we can, but we are keen for it to be used by others too.

We run it on a not-for-profit basis, in and use any profits from the rental to maintain the property in excellent condition. We've been going here for most of our holidays for the last 40 years!

Anthea Gordon purchased this cottage in 1970

Why Anthea Gordon chose South East Cornwall

It is a beautiful and secluded location, far from the crowds, but also within reach of an enormous range of local activities.

What makes this cottage unique

The main attractions of North Ward Cottage itself are

- it is very spacious

- the quality of the furnishings, e.g. king-size beds, fully-equipped kitchen

- it's enormous garden

Guestbook comments from the owner

"A memorable week for family including 3 small girls and grandparents, and an uncle at weekends... highlights included two boat trips to Cothele and treasure hunts in the garden"

"A lovely, lovely spot and we'll hopefully be back again. We had a really fantastic time and love the house and garden - spectacular views. Can't wait til next year - we hope to book again"

"We found a corner of heaven at North Ward Cottage! The accommodation is so comfortable and inviting and became 'home' to us in no time. The dairy cows were most neighbourly and we enjoyed the occasional bovine rush hour by the front door!"

Peaceful, lovely farm cottage. Idyllic setting.

  • 5 of 5

North Ward Cottage is a beautiful cottage set in a wonderfully peaceful setting. It was well equipped and had plenty of space for two families. There are fresh farm eggs available from the cottage next door and great views and good walks at the site. We particularly enjoyed watching the daily migration of the local farmer's cow herd past the kitchen window. We had a great time in our week there and I recommend it highly for those looking to get away to the country.

lovely cottage with beautiful surrounds

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is tucked in the pretty countryside next to a farm. We instantly felt at home. The garden was beautiful and all the children enjoyed running around, my husband enjoyed mowing the lawn with the children helping him. the wheelbarrow was a hit too.

Tavistock is a pretty town with lots of nice little shops and a market. There is plenty to do in a week, many gorgeous walks and national Trust visits. Good idea about not having a telly in the cottage, first we were a bit worried but actually it was a great time not having TV and just chatting and reading books or playing games. We'll definately return again.

Cosy cottage, great view across Tamar valley

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay in the cottage, underfloor heating and a cosy log burner make it a great place to snuggle up on a cold night! Amazing views across the Tamar valley - can even see impressive rail viaduct right from the kitchen window & a great place for walking and getting away from the business of urban life.

Very happy holidays

  • 5 of 5

I have really enjoyed staying at this cottage and have done for several holidays now during the summer and winter. The cottage is spacious but cozy at the same time and is set in beautiful countryside. The view from the kitchen sink is just lovely. Its a very peaceful place with a really nice garden to relax in as well as walks right from the door step. The cottage has everything you need for a very relaxing and 'home from home' holiday. I would highly recommend it and will be going again soon.

Peaceful, gentle and beautiful

  • 5 of 5

The house is very well equipped and has been restored beautifully. A great position for a peaceful walking/cycling holiday or short stay. We walked locally one day and then on Dartmoor which is only a short drive away. Highly recommended.
