Relaxing stay in The Lakes
Rivendell Lodge surpassed our expectations - it was very clean, beautifully furnished and well equipped. The location was lovely and peaceful and a bonus was that we were able to walk easily into Hawkshead. Well positioned to reach lots of wonderful sites in the Lake District National Park, we would definitely return.

Lovely stay
Property was delightful. Very clean and well stocked. After 5 minutes of walking around I turned to my friend and suggested we try and book the property again for an annual trip. Highly recommended!

Lovely place to stay
We loved our weekend away! Super cosy and very good place to stay. The tiniest of downfall is the lack of shops in the area, but with preparation that shouldn’t be an issue at all. Our host was responsive and very well communicated prior and through out. Looking forward returning soon! Dora

About the host

We’ve been scouring the Lakes for a property for many years. Having looked at many places in many locations we were simply bowled over with the Rivendell Lodge. We think it’s the perfect house in the perfect place. This is our future retirement home. In building it we’ve taken a great deal of care and we hope you’ll appreciate the quality and attention to detail we’ve taken to make it special. As you may have guessed we’re Lord of the Ring fans, so as Bilbo Baggins said of Rivendell, “A perfect house, whether you like food or sleep, or storytelling or singing, or just sitting and thinking the best, or a pleasant mixture of them all. Merely to be there was a cure for weariness, fear and sadness”. As soon as we retire we’ll be spending a great deal of time at Rivendell, but until that day.....

Why they chose this property

Rivendell could not be more central within the Lake District National Park. It’s in a very peaceful location with stunning views of Esthwaite Water and surrounding hills. It’s within a short drive of Ambleside, Coniston and Grasmere and right on your doorstep is Grizedale Forest for some of the best Mountain Biking, Near Sawrey - home of Beatrix Potter or Esthwaite Water for Fly Fishing. It’s also a walker’s dream. From Rivendell you can walk directly around Grizedale Forest, to Tarn Hows or up Latterbarrow. If you’re more ambitious try the Old Man of Coniston or the Langdale Pikes, both of which are a short drive away. The local gem is Hawkshead village, which is a short 10 minute walk by pleasant path, with cobbled streets, white washed cottages, 4 real ale pubs, cafes and shops.

What makes this property unique

Rivendell was commissioned to our internal design in 2012 by Retreat Lodges. It’s based on an award winning design and is built from organic cedar wood to the latest modern timber framed building standards. There’s gas central heating but also under floor heating in the Entrance / boot room and the 2 bathrooms plus an eye catching modern log burning stove. The quality of the finish is of the highest order, from the fully equipped modern kitchen, bathrooms and bedrooms to the floor to ceiling double glazed windows and French doors that together with the high apex ceiling give the property a light airy feeling yet extremely cosy and comforting. We’ve put a great deal of thought and effort to kit the property with the highest quality furniture, all designed to make your stay memorable.
