The lodge has a large, gated, decking area with garden furniture, overlooking the pond and an extensive natural garden with alternative sitting areas so you can enjoy the sun or shade while you unwind. The garden is an oasis for watching wildlife as it is frequently visited by a wide variety of birds, red squirrels and roe deer. It's southerly / westerly facing orientation and canopy of trees provide the perfect setting for a relaxing holiday. The lodge itself provides excellent accommodation for up to six people. It is very well equipped and beautifully furnished, offering a large open plan kitchen with electric oven and hob, microwave oven, dishwasher and washing machine. The dining and lounge area promote a wonderfully social holiday atmosphere with two sets of French doors that open onto the gated decked area to extend the living and dining space. About the Owner

After more than 30 years of teaching we retired at Christmas (2011) and invested in a little piece of rural tranquillity. We have always enjoyed holidays in the Lake District and this lodge overlooking Duke's Pond was perfect. We enjoy walking, cycling and watching the wildlife.

This is a luxuriously lovely lodge...such a warmly welcoming and indulgently comfortable home from home. We have made great friends with the squirrels and birds and will miss them. Holtz Family Shrewsbury April 2012

You have a beautiful lodge in an idyillic setting. Thank you so much we have had a wonderful time. The wildlife put on a regular show and our boys thoroughly enjoyed filling up the feeders. The Lake District is always a fantastic place to visit, but this time it has been extra special with this beautiful location. Hope to come again. Edgar Family York July 2012

Rowanburn Lodge

  • 5 of 5

Very quiet place to stay, which was just what we needed! Lodge is well equipped with plenty of local information, but the lodges could really do with a children's playground area for the kids to let off steam. Plenty of nearby forest walks (they were rally car testing whilst we were there) and there was an abundance of wildlife visiting through the week.

Everything was as described and the property is well looked after. There is a farm shop/cafe just along the A66 towards Keswick and a local shop plus pool and playground in Greystoke Village. Overall, a very enjoyable relaxing stay.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. We are glad you could enjoy the peace and tranquillity Rowanburn Lodge can offer and the entertainment provided by the wildlife. The Ford rally team use Greystoke Forest to practice on a few days a year. There are always plenty of stewards around for safety reasons but quite thrilling to watch. Lots of children love to play in the woods behind the lodge. A bit of adventure play instead of a formal play area. Hope you can visit us again sometime in the future. Regards. Dave and Anne Armstrong.

Stunning property in a beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

Couldn't of been happier with the lodge. Everything we could have asked for and more. Beautiful surroundings and the lodge was clean, very well maintained and was fully stocked with everything we needed. I also found time to read one of the many books that are there.

We would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a peaceful time away from the stresses of normal life. Thankyou Dave and Anne for letting us stay

Luxury lodge in idyllic woodland setting

  • 5 of 5

Have just returned from a short break at this beautiful lodge, Set in peaceful woodland, with a lovely pond at the front. The Lodge is furnished luxuriously, spotlessly clean and with everything you could possibly ask for . The setting is so peaceful, we loved watching all the wildlife, red squirrels, deer, pheasants, hares and many different species of birds, all in the Lodges beautiful gardens., The Lodge is in an ideal location for those wanting to walk in the nearby Greystoke Forest and surrounding areas, the scenery is beautiful, Also within easy reach of Penrith and Keswick. The owners Dave and Anne were great, giving us all the information and directions we needed. We will definitely return and would highly recommend this beautiful lodge .

They have thought of everything!

  • 5 of 5

Have stayed here twice, once in August 14 and once in December 15 (Don't worry about being cold as the lodge is fully insulated and toasty warm). The lodge is immaculate, cosy and much more luxurious than we imagined. David and Anne have thought of everything, you needn't worry about pots and pans etc as it is well stocked and I don't know how they keep everything so clean. There is plenty of space for 6 people and the furniture and soft furnishings are tasteful, comfortable and durable (Exactly what you need when returning from a walk in Greystoke Forest). The peace and tranquility of the area really allows you to relax, what with all the wild life and nothing to see for miles around. Having said that the walks in the area are lovely and it is only a short drive to Ullswater or Penrith so you get the best of both worllds. If you go in December the lodge is all twinkly with Christmas lights, perfect! Will definitely be back again. Thanks for sharing
