Carole & Roy - November 2014

Firstly Gail was amazing right from the start. Regularly sending emails about the Croft and local attractions. When we arrived at the Croft it was dark so couldn't see anything. When we woke the following morning, OH MY GOODNESS!!! I knew it was beautiful from the photo's I had seen, but they really don't do it justice. The scenery from the back garden was breathtaking. For November the weather was unbelievable, sunny, blue skies nearly all week. The colours around us were amazing. We had an abundance of wildlife right on our doorstep, from herons, to a colony of seals, so close we could hear them snorting. The sunsets were like something from a romantic film, so beautiful with all the reds and oranges. The stars were like nothing I have ever seen before, a complete blanket covering the sky just twinkling away, so many shooting stars too. Now for the croft itself. What can I say that hasn't been said on so many reviews except WOW!!!! I am running out of adjectives to describe our stay. Gail has perfected a little home from home, actually it's better than my home and my partner had to drag me kicking and screaming to leave. It was so cozy and warm, the log burner was gorgeous. The underfloor heating in the bathroom was most welcoming when a late night trip to the loo occurred. The shower is massive with piping hot water. Extremely comfortable bed, which was hard to get out of due to the comfort. The decor of the croft is spot on, everything has been thought of, the little finishing touches make it the ideal place to come back to after a day of exploring. I could go on and on about Gails beautiful piece of heaven. I have stayed in Scotland many times before, but I have never stayed somewhere that makes me want to pack up and move to the Isle of Skye immediately. I just want to say thank you for sharing Skye Croft with us all. We will definitely be returning ASAP :)

Christine & Olivier - November 2014

Fabuleuse île de Skye, logement parfait,très beaux coins.la maison est très bien tenu. L'intérieur est impeccable est très propre. La propriétaire a mis tous don cœur pour bien nous accueillir.

Jane & Ian - October 2014

I know that Ian wrote to you to say how much we enjoyed staying at your croft. I thought I would just add my appreciation.

You have converted it so beautifully. It’s soooo stylish and comfortable. The underfloor heating in the bathroom is pure luxury.

We were incredibly lucky with the weather – unbroken sunshine - but even if it had rained we would have been very snug and happy there.

The wildlife was a never ending fascinating show. We counted over 30 seals on the rocks directly in front of the croft one day and another day the heronry arrived with 27 additional herons joining our resident one. They are so funny the way they all stand on one leg facing the same direction. We saw masses of other birds and a golden eagle that tried to land on one of the little spruce in the garden.

As described - a wonderful getaway home from home in an amazing location.

  • 5 of 5

Having stayed on the West coast lots of times and visited several of the islands (including Skye) we knew what to expect. We love very rural locations and being on water so this met our wishes. It is not a venue for lots of things to do - but for peace, wildlife, views etc it is superb. The croft is very comfortable and has everything we needed. My only thought - and it is a very minor one - was that it would have been handy to have a freezer compartment in the fridge. For a week I would have liked the ability to bring more fresh food to save having to go out!

Stunning, stunning, stunning

An impressive, perfect little croft - ideal location to use as a base for the whole island, that is if you can drag yourself away from watching the seals and local heron just outside your garden. We honestly cannot wait to return.

Perfect in any way...

This is a real wow-factor! Wonderful cottage, just the right size for 2 people, very cosy, modern, clean and well-maintained. There are no words expressing our enchantment of the scenic views and access of the wild-life just outside the door! We spent many hours sitting outside enjoying it all and taking a lot of photo's. The owner, Gail, has been most informative and making us feel very welcome to stay in her lovely little croft. Thank you so much for the wine and the cards. This has been one of the best holidays we've ever had and hope to be back soon again.

Wow!

  • 5 of 5

The croft is a little gem at the end of a winding track. It was everything and more than we expected. The grill kota is a wonderful hut in which to sit and relax at the end of the day.

Great views across the loch towards Harris and over the mountains. We had a truly relaxing holiday jn this fantastic little croft.

Perfect comfort, privacy and convenience

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed in many self-catering properties and yet Skye Croft has managed to surpass the rest. Everything, from the moment of making our first enquiry about availability, to spending what was a most comfortable week in glorious surroundings, was made perfect by clear communications, advice and instructions from Gail, both before and during our stay. It is not easy to predict everything that customers will want to know and experience, but Gail has managed to cover all of these. The croft itself was immaculately clean on our arrival and immediately felt very homely and welcoming. Its position, with the loch just below the garden and the private feel provided by the rocky outcrop in the front helped to encourage us to relax and enjoy the surroundings immediately. Skye itself is larger than a new visitor might expect, but we found the croft to be a perfect base from which to explore the whole island during the week. It is conveniently near enough to Portree, and so a quick visit to the Co-Op after a day out meant that we never ran out of anything. In the croft we found everything we needed for being able to spend lovely evenings, cooking, watching the sunset, enjoying the sight of birds and seals and finally watching DVDs or TV once it got dark. Gail has left handy tips around the croft, so that no time is wasted working out how to use things. We didn't make use of the Kota, but would certainly have done so if we hadn't have found the kitchen so wonderful to use. Thanks to Gail for this very special place and one that we were very sad to leave.

Location

From the Owner

Since an early age, camping and caravanning on the West Coast of Scotland, it has been my dream since being a teenager to own my own little cottage on the waterfront in the Highlands & Islands. I love the natural ruggedness and the astounding sunsets that only the West coast can bring.

Activity and Interests

Coast/Beach:

Only a few footsteps from Skye Croft take you to the natural rocky and rugged shoreline.

Distances:

The croft is ideally situated, being only 9 miles West of the Isle of Skye's colourful harbour town of Portree, the capital of the island, where full shopping facilities include: supermarkets, shops, cafes, restaurants, boat trips and a tourist information centre.

Approx 14 miles North of Skye Croft lies Uig, a small harbour town set in a stunning sheltered bay. From here you can take a ferry trip over to Tarbert on the Isle of Harris in the Outer Hebrides.

Further Details:

Salmon Fishing available on the River Snizort approx 2 miles.

Horse Riding centre approx 3 miles.

Facilities

From the Owner

I get so excited about visiting Skye Croft, just like any holidaymaker. Nature is all around, be it wildlife, plant life, sea life, dramatic skies or dramatic weather! Being central to Portree, Dunvegan & Uig makes it ideal for taking days out and touring which is still something I love to do.
