About the Owner

We are the Collet-Fenson family - Kate & Duncan, Lucy and Charlie. We live and work in Buckinghamshire but love to escape to North Devon at any opportunity. In Bucks we live in a shared house with my parents, who being retired spend much of the year traveling and looking after Lantern House on our behalf. As a family we love to ski but have found that surfing is a great deal more affordable and practical to do on a regular basis. We love Ilfracombe and North Devon for its quirkiness and opportunities, there are some many unexplored areas, secret coves and adventures to be enjoyed, we can't keep away and love to share it with friends and family. We have set up the house with family and friends in mind, so all you need to do is turn up!

Great location and very helpful owners.

Perfect location with the most accommodating owners. I could not fault this accommodation in any way and would most definitely stay again. The house itself is very spacious with lovely views over the harbour and walking distance to shops and harbour.

Value for money

We were a party of 12 with a mix of all age groups from 9 to 85. The house is spacious and in a good position with car parking, and the harbour is only a 10 minute walk down hill through the park. The games room was a plus for the kids making use of the pool table. The house though is 'tired' and needs updating but to be fair this is reflected in the price.

A perfect family house

This was our second stay at Lantern House and as brilliant as our first. The house is ideally located, just a short walk to the harbour and the views from the house are amazing. It is well equipped for catering for 12 people and the playroom is perfect to keep young children occupied. I have no hesitation in recommending Ilfracombe and Lantern House for a perfect family holiday.

What an amazing house! So much space! And the views were stunning. We took the RIB out from the harbour for an exhilarating tour around the coast, surfed at Woollacombe and had a lovely meal for my birthday in a restaurant,The Habit, two minutes walk from the house. We had clean, fresh linen and the huge bed was so comfortable I slept beautifully. The 'through' bedroom was perfect for my daughter and her three girlfriends; they could chat until the early hours of the morning from their own beds.

The parking was a real bonus in the coach house and the kitchen had everything we needed and more. Kate was lovely to deal with and went above and beyond to make our stay perfect. I can't wait to go back, I really found it hard to leave.

Super family Holiday in a great family home

The property was as it was advertised, it was very well equipped kitchen & bathroom facilities. Like a home from home excellent for a large group, ours was from the age of 5 to 90! Great children's room with everything they could want, we took advantage of the BBQ and garden as the weather was glorious. Close proximity to so many lovely places and beaches and Ilfracombe town within easy walking distance of the harbour. Would definitely recommend.

We bought Lantern House in 2007 because as a family we love surfing, paddle boarding, sailing and dog walking. We have spent many happy holidays at Lantern House and my brother and his family have re-located to Ilfracombe because we have had so much fun there over the years. We are a 3 generation family and have kitted the house out to suit all ages, it is a great party house and works really well for self catering groups. Ilfracombe is perfectly located for a mixed group holiday. There is access to rock pool, bucket & spade beaches in the town and then a short drive away you are at the award winning surfing beaches of Woolacombe and Croyde and just a few miles from the rugged beauty of Exmoor National Park.

From the Owner

Being on the edge of the town, we have the convenience of shops, cinema, swimming pool, tennis court, crazy golf, pitch and putt and seaside fun all within a short walk. We have on-site car-parking, right next door and a bus stop outside the house. We often find that we park the car and don't move it for a week! The house is kitted out for big family groups and we pride ourselves in the how well equipped the house is. We aim to ensure you can cater for up to 18, with big pans, dishes and plenty of crockery and cutlery, plenty of storage, fridge space etc. We also have filled the house with fun, so that should you have the "odd" wet day there is plenty to keep all generations amused and happy. Dogs are very welcome - dog walking in the area is amazing.
