About mark richard hampson

I am English and have lived on Gran Canaria for the past 15 years. I am fluent in English, Spanish and German and work in Las Palmas as a professional musician in the Gran Canaria philharmonic orchestra. I can easily organise concert and opera tickets for guests adding a cultural element to their time on the island. I am also a keen sportsman and have a wide knowledge of the various activities available to guests during their time in El Palmar. Gran Canaria is the perfect place for activities such as hiking, cycling, horse riding, climbing and diving, and El Palmar is the perfect base both to relax and experience all the island has to offer.

I bought this property principally for its location. I love the traditional nature of the house and the beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. The house is also unique being within a village, near to all it has to offer, whilst feeling secluded and peaceful. Teror, the nearest town, is a thriving and emblematic centre for Gran Canaria with a flourishing Sunday morning market. The fiestas in September are also something not to be missed with pilgrims coming form all over the island both to pay homage to the virgin Pino and to take part in the following parties.

Outside: The garden is in the form of an L around the house including a front terrace for eating with table and chairs for 6 and parasol. There is a reading and chill out corner with seating and table with shade provided by numerous trees towards the rear. At the back there is a sun porch with sofa beneath, barbecue and hammock. There are also 2 sun loungers on the patio. There is an exterior shower fitted for hot days. The garden is planted with numerous shrubs and trees and benefits from an automatic watering system.From here there is a wonderful view of the Osorio nature reserve and it´s peak. The house is on the edge of a small ravine so there are no other houses obstructing the view of the surrounding countryside. Please be aware that there are two cats resident in the garden. They never come inside the house, but do keep the local country pests at bay! Utility Room: Utility alcove in the back entrance hall with washing machine and tumble dryer Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen are included. There is no cleaning service provided but it can be arranged at your own cost. There is a final clean cost of 50 pounds. Other: Entrance Hall with hanging space for coats, dresser and radiator.

Quiet and relaxing

We enjoyed our stay here very much. The house has been kept in keeping with the area on the outside but has been very well updated inside. The living area is very comfortable and the kitchen is very nice and includes built in built in oven and microwave combi. The master bedroom and en suite were also very modern and comfortable, ( there was only the two of us). The location was rural but not isolated which suited us with a small shop 30 seconds away and the nearest town just 2km.

Special interest holidays:

I work as a professional musician both in the local philharmonic orchestra and across Europe with other touring groups. I can easily obtain opera and symphony concert tickets for people who are interested and can always advise people on the numerous cultural activities available on the island. As the property is so close to Las Palmas one can also enjoy the theatre and nightlife in this cosmopolitan city.


The nearest beach is 15 minutes drive away with the famous Las Canteras urban beach in Las Palmas some 20 minutes drive. The beaches and resorts on the south side of the island are some 50 minutes drive away along with many wild deserted beaches on the west coast the nearest being 40 minutes drive away.


The Gran Canaria airport is 40 minutes away by car. There are also quick links by boat to Tenerife from the port of Agaete 30 minutes away (the journey time from Gran Canaria to Tenerife is 1h 15 minutes). There are bus links to Las Palmas although a hire car is highly recommended.


Teror, Gran Canaria´s most emblematic village is just a 5 minute drive from the house. The "Osorio" nature reserve is just 10 minutes walk away and Las Palmas can be reached in 25 minutes. The resorts on the south of the island are 50 minutes drive away and the volcanic peaks of the island half an hour away with spectacular walking and views.

Further Details:

There is a small and friendly village shop just a couple of minutes walk from the house, with a supermarket 5 minutes drive away. There is also a Sunday morning market in Teror with local products on sale. There are numerous bars and restaurants in Teror, all about 5 minutes drive away. The house is also the perfect place for a sporting holiday and it is easy to hire bikes and also go horse riding. You are also very well placed to hike as there are numerous walking routes around the house including a beautiful nature reserve 15 minutes away on foot.
