About Joanna

I am a visual artist, passionate amateur landscape gardener and the builder of what in the future could result in a realized dream of living in beautiful surroundings in harmony with nature. I came here in 2010 and started the project with the reconstruction of the house and construction of the garden. Then I started the renovation of dilapidated small houses on the estate. This resulted in a small house / studio I now live and work in when I'm not working with the garden and preparing the big house before guests' arrival. Welcome.

Joanna purchased this villa in 2010

Why Joanna chose Ronda area

I fell in love with this place because of its beautiful surroundings, privacy and the city's genuineness. Here you are far enough from the tourist congestion on Mediterranean beaches and coastal cities, but close enough to the beaches and cities you want to visit.

What makes this villa unique

A farm/oliv grove of 1 ha in direct proximity to urban amenities (healthcare, banks, shops, bars and cafes, touris information) in the beautiful town of Cortes, yet, in the middle of nature. The garden is full of flowers, herbs and birdsong. The soft hills of olive groves echoes with the voices of grazing sheep while swinging in the hammock in the shade of the olive tree, or resting on a sun lounger on the veranda adjacent to the pool area or on the terrace with spectacular views wher you can see eagles circling in the daytime and at night watch the moon sink behind the mountains.

On the porch adjacent to the kitchen there is a masonry barbecue with dining area and all kinds of herbs on hand.

Exceptional location for explorers. Lots of intresting destinations nearby. Spectacular cork oak forests, caves with prehistoric paintings, rivers, amazing little white villages and proximity to exciting cities: Granada, Ronda, Cadiz, Seville, Malaga, Jerez de la Frontera. You can reach both the Mediterranean coast and the Atlantic coast between 40 min 1 hr.

For horse enthusiasts can hire with a guide be arranged.

Serene, beautiful, unique house

  • 5 of 5

Family of five, Inc three children under ten, had a brilliant time! House is spacious and well equipped, comfortable and really unique in style. Liked the fact there was no telly too.

The pool and gardens were great, and the town is only a stroll away. Joanne welcomed us and we said goodbye at they end, otherwise we were left in peace but knew she was around if we needed, so all good. The big dog and little cat who came visiting together each night were great too!

Saw eagles, horses and lots of other wildlife, all in all, it was great.

Beautiful peaceful fantastic villa!

  • 5 of 5

Just back from a fabulous stay at this gorgeous home from home. The villa is spacious comfortable and well equipped. The pool was great for us and our children (3 & 6) and there was also plenty of garden for playing and exploring. The lawn was a big bonus with small children. Joanna was very friendly helpful and kindly showed us around the lovely town which let us find treats we might have missed otherwise! The kids totally loved playing with her friendly animals when they came to visit! The villa setting is as described complete privacy but it's still only a few minutes walk into town. You definitely need a car to get here and although we could have spent every day relaxing in the villa we also explored local caves, amazing lakes and beaches which are all within 20mins - 1.5hr drive. Perfect holiday - Thankyou so much Joanna! Hope to see you again soon!

A wonderful, wildlife filled stay in the heart of Andalucia. A real get away from it all location.

  • 4 of 5

Joanna was a welcoming host to her lovely rustic cottage, hidden in the folds of the Park National. Plenty of room for the two of us with a wonderful shaded terrace, perfect for lunch and escaping the hottest times of the day. Open plan living downstairs allowed more than enough space for cooking, with a lovely balcony area leading off the upper living room that was perfect for a relaxing sun downer in the early evening. Oso, the Spanish Sheepdog and the cats were added company.

The local wildlife is not shy. Vultures, white tailed eagles, swifts, lizards, bats (of all sizes), butterflies, beetles, crickets, sheep, frogs and much more can be seen and heard around the valley. We should have packed a guide book on the local fauna and flora as spent lots of time looking up various creatures and plants on the internet.

The local municipal swimming pool is a must if you want to practice your lengths. With lots of beautifully kept grass areas and a stunning view, it's worth making an afternoon visit with a picnic. Just under 10 minutes walk away and ideal for all ages. There is a lovely learner pool for younger swimmers. At 1 euro 50 each it was amazing value!

The very local bar/restaurant is friendly and has a good selection of tapas and main meals but the village also offers lots of places for a quick drink, light lunch or relaxed dinner. The little square has a butcher, baker, fruit and veg shop, cafe and ironmongers. Not always obvious as hidden behind door screens, just look for the locals leaving with their bulging shopping bags. Quite a few supermarkets around the village open Monday to Friday and half day Saturday. The first supermarket as you enter the village (near the Pharmacy and Dia) is open on a Sunday morning for a couple of hours.

A car is essential and once we had mastered the lane up and down to the cottage, enjoyed trips out into the cork forests and white villages that are dotted around the area. A visit to Ronda for our anniversary was a wonderful treat.

The prehistoric caves are worth visiting. Call and book in advance. Again, amazing value for nearly 2 hours underground on a guided tour of the cave paintings and rock formations. 30,000 years of human occupation still totally unspoilt by burger vans and souvenir shops. Wear shoes with a good grip as it can be slippery in places.

All in all, a fantastic get away location with plenty to do in the surrounding area.

Amazing mountains

  • 4 of 5

We traveled with three dogs and we stayed in villa 6 weeks to the end of January. Joanna and her dog Ozo were friendly hosts. The garden is a generous with mandarin trees and other fruits. Ozo played with our youngest dog and there where plenty of space to go around with the dogs. The casa was wonderful with very equipment kitchen and a washing & drying machine. There are two bathrooms, which is very comfortable, but the water pressure was a little weak. There is no curtains or shutters in downstairs, which bothers us a bit, because we are use to privacy. Wifi worked well enough and that was very important to us, because we teleworking. That period were very cold (in particular nights and one day there where even 10 cm snowing). We bought a pellets heating (4 €/15 kg, we used about 20 sacks) and gas to warm water (gas is quite cheap in Spain) and also we paid the extra money (150 €) for electricity. The rural village is a beautiful with very friendly people and there are also some shops where you get some basic food items. It was a bit hard to drive around, because the roads are narrow and curved. We have a 5,4 m long van and it takes us about 1 hour to drive for the first 30 km in any direction. The vehicle is must.
