Cottage in Chalais, Nr. Aubeterre-sur-Dronne, Poitou Charentes, France - Surrounded By Field And Woods But Only 2 Minutes By Car To Town For Shopping, Restaurants And Banks.


Le Petit Chêne is a light and comfortable south facing cottage, situated in a secluded valley close to Aubeterre, one of the prettiest villages in France, surrounded by fields, woods and vines. Part of an old farm complex it is separate from the main farmhouse and converted barn and has it's own private garden to the front and side. Fully renovated and all on one level the kitchen/sitting room opens on to the south facing terrace for the sun lovers while at the side of the property is a covered terrace where you can relax in the shade. There are three spacious bedrooms, two of which are double rooms, one with a toilet next to it. The third big bedroom is next to the shady terrace at the back of the property and can sleep two people in single beds. There is a separate shower room with toilet. The large solar heated swimming pool measures 11m x 6m with roman steps and a custom built hot tub.

Outside: There is a sunny south facing terrace with furniture and a parasol as well as a shady terrace to the side of the property also with garden furniture. There are private gardens to the south and west of the property. There is a table tennis table and barbecue. The swimming pool measures 11m x 6 m and is solar heated. There is also a custom built hot tub and parasols and loungers around the pool terrace. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bed linen and towels are provided for your stay. Pool towels are not supplied.

Excellent accommodation in great location

We had a fantastic holiday in this cottage. It is well equipped with everything you need for a self catering holiday. It was very clean and well maintained. The visitors book has lots of recommendations for activities and restaurants in the area, and Bill and Helene were also around to offer advice and personal recommendations. The swimming pool was great and the hot tub an added bonus.

Great property in quiet yet convienient location

Everything you need for a relaxing stay provided. Location peaceful but within easy reach (by car) of local town with market, restaurants, shops and supermarkets (even open Sunday morning). Being located in the South West of the Charente region you are well placed to visit the sites of the area and the neighbouring Dordogne all within a relatively short drive. We would recommend the property, communication with owners was excellent throughout, wouldn't hesitate to visit again

An excellent find!

The owners, Bill and Helene made us feel very welcome, and were the perfect hosts. They shared lots of local knowledge and information. The accommodation was very well presented, well maintained, clean, tidy, spacious and homely. The pool, which we used every day, was amazing! The surrounding area is very peaceful. The local town is a 5 minute drive, where there are plenty of restaurants, shops and supermarkets. We would love to return next year, we had the perfect holiday. Many thanks

Tranquil holiday

Had 2weeks here in August, have always been to this area but to a different gite (special memories there) we came here with our son and his family 2 young children. Lovely accommodation and beautiful swimming pool . Lovely hosts Bill& Ellie, nothing too much trouble for them. Would highly recommend this gite .

Thanks to Helen and Bill , we had a lovely, relaxing weeks holiday at the this lovely cottage . it was very spacious and enough room for 7/8 people . The kids and adults loved jumping in the pool :) we would definitely recommend a day trip to Bordeaux and Aubeterre-Sur-Dronne where we had a lovely meal , everything you need is a 15 minute walk away to the town or the supermarkets are only a 5/10 minute drive . we would definitely stay here again.

C'est Fantastique!!!

My wife and I had a wonderful week here. The owners are friendly and helpful but also discrete and unobtrusive. Communication from booking, including offering helpful travel tips was really good. The cottage is well stocked with all the essential equipment you need while away, and so comfortable too. The terrace is a gorgeous sun trap all day long but also peaceful to simply sit and relax on. However the pool pictures simply do not do it justice. It's the nicest pool we have had from any rental, one of the largest and the first with a hot tub! The solar heating helps no end on cooler days. We really did not want to leave. The cottage is located in a quiet area yet still close to town and main routes to many great tourist locations such as Angouleme, Perigueux and Pons, not forgetting it's great proximity to Aubeterre, a must visit village!. The information booklet Helene and Bill have put together is excellent as well and a great help. What's more, in this technological age providing free wifi is a real plus as we could plan days on the spur of the moment. We have nothing but praise for the property and the owners and would definitely consider booking this, or the larger property they offer in future years.

50% deposit at time of booking, balance to be received by 8 weeks prior to holiday start date. A refundable security deposit of £250 is required.
There is also a Taxe de Sejour of €0,30 per person per night we are obliged to collect on behalf of the local Community Council. This is to fund local tourist information. It is applicable to all persons residing in the property over the age of 13 years.

Change over day is Saturday, but can be flexible if not in high season.
