It offers spacious and comfortable accommodation for 4 people in a peaceful, rural setting. Ideal for walking or cycling.

About David & Karen Saich

We had been frequent visitors to the region and decided we would like a holiday home. Having an old house in England and being busily self employed we didn't want a wreck. So we opted for a more modern house that would be easy to maintain and clean although we did insist that it had to have a wood burning stove! We use the house frequently and feel at home within ten minutes of arriving. Although it is our house, our family and friends say they feel the same and hope you will too. Each stay is just not long enough. We have decided to rent the house to offset some of the costs and not as a commercial enterprise. The furnishings are to a comfortable standard and not just the bare minimum. Hopefully this will ensure an enjoyable stay. Karen & David Saich

Why David & Karen Saich chose Pas-de-Calais

As we live on the east coast of England, we wanted a location that would be easily accessible for frequent visits and not just a fortnight once a year. With Calais only 75 mins. away Le Quesnoy-en-artois (pronounced- le kenwah-on-artwah) near Hesdin has turned out to be ideal. We did look at properties in and around Le Touquet which is very chic, but also busy and more expensive to buy. Our rural setting suits us but gives the oppurtunity to visit lots of interesting places. Many, within 1 hour drive. The more time we spend in Le Quesnoy, the more places we seem to discover. Sitting in the garden with a glass of wine enjoying the peace and quiet is also perfectly acceptable!

What makes this bungalow unique

We are in a tiny village but very close to Hesdin. Also, with a restaurant in the next village we don't have to go into town. The country style cooking is hearty food at it's best and with a friendly atmosphere and bottomless carafe of wine, it is a must on each of our visits.

Lovely rural property that has been looked after by the current owners David and Karen. Lots of films for the children and notes for local day trips for the family. which was a real bonus!

The layout of the property is nice and easy however, I would advice you, if you if your were in a powered wheelchair there is a step at the front of the property which would restrict your access into the house. You can access the rear of the house without a step and this way is best if you are in a manual chair but the threshold on the back door has some height on it, this will not enable access for a powered chair. Saying this there was a covered porch at the back of the house where we were able to leave the powered chair and carry our six year old in to the house, in to his manual chair.

Our two boys, who are Six and Three absolutely loved the garden and house too!

Local Markets are a must see and a great time to spend the morning or "lazy days" there are lots of them about and on various days...there is a full list at the house.

Vimy memorial is a good insight in WW1 and the views from the monument are amazing!

Would like to stay here again!

We have been pleased to receive some positive feedback from guests who have mobility problems. We had not specifically thought of this angle, but with this kind of feedback, we can try to make the house even more suitable. I think some kind of ramp at the rear, (either permanent or removable) through one of the double French doors would make entry simple. This could be a project for next season. Watch this space!!

Rural Charm

We were impressed, the owners had thought of everything! The instructions to get there were easy to follow and we found the property straight away. It is situated in a very rural part of France on the edge of a charming village. An excellent base for our trips out.

The property is clean and comfortable and very well-equipped and stocked. (with a policy of 'if you use it please replace it!') How nice not to have to buy every item e.g. salt and pepper and bin bags.

It has a good sized garden with a patio area for sitting out, garden furniture and a pond.

We had hoped to take my disabled 94 year old mother but she wasn't well enough to travel. The facilities would have been ideal for her.

Thank you for a most enjoyable stay we look forward to visiting again in the future.

Owner's Response: We have received lots of nice comments in our visitors book at the house, and now on-line. We ventured into renting to cover the cost of running such a property but hadn't thought of this side of things which gives us enormous satisfaction knowing that our guests are enjoying the house as much as we do. The area seems to suit all age groups. The younger visitors enjoy the beaches and theme parks and those of us who are a little older, the historic areas of both world wars and the rural attractions. We have also been able to visit places further afield such as Brugge in Belgium and Honfleur in the Calvados region.

disabled friendly holiday

I contacted the owner and asked if this was suitable for a wheelchair user he wasn't sure so he went away measured doorways and got back to me. He was very accomadating and easy to communicate with.

The gite was lovely set in a rural part of france so you get to see the true france not just tourist parts. it was easy to travel to different places so was a good base there was lots of tourist leaflets in the property. just a couple of miles to the nearest town which has a great market and all the local ammenities you'd require for a self catering holiday.

the log burning stove was a nice feature in the evening with a glass of wine. I would stay here again and would definately recommend to both wheelchair users and able bodied holiday makers.
